DM/ For nearly three ten-days, the Midsommer Gale had carved her weary path across the churning waves of the Eastern Ocean, The Trackless Sea, and finally The Sea of Swords, her sails ragged and her crew lean from toil. The salt stung deeper than it once had, and the sun had lost its warmth somewhere past the fifth storm. But now, at last, the misted coastline of Amn rose like a promise from the sea, its golden cliffs catching the early morning sun like the edge of a jeweled blade. Brother Ashley leans against the railing next to Cerina, his cloak still damp from the night¡¯s squall. The Ranger narrows her eyes, her hand instinctively resting on her quiver. ¡°That¡¯s no mirage,¡± the Cleric murmurs, as the crew begins moving with renewed purpose, shouting orders and pulling rigging with a strength born more from desperation than discipline. Captain Jolie Diphorna, a hawk-eyed woman with a perpetual scowl, barks commands from the helm. ¡°I want us docked in Athkatla before midday or I¡¯ll use you lot as bait for the next kraken!¡± They had seen a kraken¡ªor something close enough. The First Mate had called it The Sleeper Below, a name from some ancient Sahaguin legend, though the Half-Elf hadn¡¯t explained how he knew such a thing. The creature had risen from the depths on the twelfth night, its dozen tendrils tearing through the waves like eels from the Abyss. They¡¯d fought in blood and lightning, fire and fear, and when it sank back into the deep, half the crew swore they heard it speak. And the pirates? They¡¯d come twice, once under a false flag and once with black sails and flaming arrows. The first group they outmaneuvered. The second, they fought. Talia, the ship¡¯s Storm Cleric, had turned the tide¡ªliterally¡ªwhen she summoned a crashing wave to sweep the attackers from their deck. They¡¯d sailed through blood-slicked waters for two days after, with stolen coin in their hold and curses behind them. Now, as the ship draws closer to Amn¡¯s famed port city, the companions gather near the bow . . . And what do you do? /DM

A simulacrum if you will,¡± the Wizard clarifies, ¡°made of elemental air, rather than snow and ice.¡± "How are you doing this?" ¡°The essence of Otiluke resides within the flawless ruby that acts as the golem¡¯s heart,¡± he explains. ¡°The creation process involved decades of study and experimentation, several hundred failures, countless diamonds, rubies, and sapphires, a Manual of Golems, multiple failed phylacteries, dying twice and being forcefully resurrected, deconstructing and reconstructing the spells Magic Jar, Simulacrum, Reincarnate and Planar Binding, and various exotic oils and unguents, a deep delve into Necromancy and a fortunate random encounter with an Avatar-ah, here we are,¡± he concludes as the group arrives at yet another pair of tunnels, of which the Wizard takes the right. ¡°Why all of the high drama with the illusions and the Modrons?¡± ¡°When some of the most powerful spellcasters in the realms want you not simply dead but erased from existence,¡± he says, ¡°one needs more than just contingencies. The constructs are designed to lead Rary and Robilar, should they discover my existence, on a snipe hunt through the tunnels, provide mechanical distraction and disruption, and alert me to potential interruption. They are rather unreliable though, especially before Awakening.¡± The tunnel descends for several paces, then crosses a shallow stream, and ascends again to a left curve. As you round the bend, a well lit area opens up ahead. Entering into the large and highly ornate chamber, you see a heavyset man scribbling frantically, page after page of vellum lies scattered about, whilst a tall, muscular guardsman berates the fellow. ¡°¡­ and furthermore if my men have- OHO!¡± The guardsman notices your entrances and brings his sword to stance, but seeing his companions with you, drops the aggression and stammers joyfully, ¡°What? How? Huzzah!¡± And what do you do? /DM

DM/ Date: Eleasis 20 Season: Highsun (summer) Location: Helmsport, Maztica Time: Early afternoon Stepping through the magic portal, you suddenly find yourself on the outskirts of a moderately sized port city just beyond a market square near the coast. Lively yet comfortably manageable, the port itself is active with several small local fishing boats, and one large seafaring ship which dominates the port, its sails marked with unfamiliar symbols. The cool sea air is a blend of fish, saltwater and unusual spices. The streets are well-populated but not congested, filled with a mix of mostly Amnian sailors in distinctive clothing interspersed with Payit locals in practical attire. Market stalls and small shops line the roads, offering everything from fresh regional produce to intriguing looking crafted items. At the city¡¯s center stands a modest yet impressive stone keep, serving as a focal point for the community. Its sturdy walls and imposing presence provide a sense of security and authority. Several heavily armed and armored guardsmen mill about its gates. Surrounding the keep, the buildings are functional, some adorned with modest decorative elements and subtle aromatic incense enhancements. Stone and mortar rowhouses complete the city center with wooden farmhouses and smaller thatch shanties just beyond the borders nearer the jungle. Overall, the port city exudes a vibrant, engaging atmosphere that feels bustling without being overwhelming, offering the party a sense of both opportunity and intrigue. And what do you do? /DM

OOC: I'm all for players playing their characters, but to have every situation resort to either a magical assault or a berserker attack when those of us who aren't Combat focused trying resolve something is getting old. It seems that people go off on their own ideas and when something happens someplace else, they decide to interject themselves into that line of action.

DM/ Sweet William suggests returning to the jungle cat room. Opening the door from the burial chamber back to the corridor, you notice the pungent odor of burnt hair. Crossing the hall to the short door, the Half-Orc opens it and the burning smell gets stronger. No smoke or flames can be seen. Flynn looks back hoping to see anything else of interest, but finds no more. (OOC- The various clay pots of incense and oils and spices are being left behind, correct? Their value doesn¡¯t compensate for their weight? /OOC) The tunnel back to the secret door from the Wildcat room is only 3 feet high so everyone but North has to crawl. Sweet William takes the lead, followed by North, Flynn, Tabby, Brother Ashley, and finally Cerina as rear guard. Sweet William bursts through the secret door back into the jungle room, axe at the ready to chop up any attacking stuffed feline in sight, but all you find are scattered piles of straw, smoldering bits of fur, and a message scrawled in ash saying, ¡°you¡¯re welcome, headed ->¡± with the arrow pointing to the door from whence you originally entered. ¡°He¡¯s going deeper after the rod,¡± Brother Ashley comments. ¡°Did anyone tell them about the bad air?¡± Looking around the room, there is a double door to your far left, a single door to the near left, a single door to the near right, and a double door to the far right. This oddly shaped room is decorated in a cat motif. The center of the southeastern wall is carved to resemble the face of a snarling tiger with hollow eyes. In the center of the room stands a stone statue of a tiger-headed man holding a spear. Hung on the walls are several skins of lions and leopards, tiger heads, and a cat-of-nine-tails. Along the northwest edge of the chamber a large calendar stone is mounted on the wall above a stone table or altar. Scorch marks and scrapes are scattered about in seemingly random places. Fenn¡¯s group obviously cleared the room of animated constructs. /DM OOC- you crawl to the Secret door in the lower left corner of the image. And what do you do? /DM

As you wake and prepare to depart, the Elder approaches with a young male carrying a basket of food- a bit of dried fish and thick skinned tree fruits. The Elder introduces the boy as Journeys and says he will guide you to the outskirts of their territory. Journeys is quiet but appears healthy, possibly 15 summers old, and makes eye contact with the men of the party but doesn¡¯t speak. Sweet William asks about the female population and the Elder explains, ¡°Two moons ago, a group went hunting as usual. Four huntresses, well experienced and armed along with two cubs to train.¡± He nods to Journeys to indicate their age. ¡°The cubs had been on a few hunts without incident. The prey has been scarce recently so the group was going further and further out each night. One morning, they didn¡¯t return.¡± He glances at Journeys. ¡°His mother, Dances in Rain, was in the group,¡± he says. ¡°We sent out menfolk immediately,¡± he says. ¡°Six warriors and Xolotl for healing in case there were injuries.¡± He sighs. ¡°They did not return.¡± He pauses and looks to the sun rising in the east. ¡°An expedition was sent, two score of the best trackers and strongest warriors. For three days and nights they sought out the missing. In the end, only six returned. They said they saw nothing. Heard nothing. They had no idea the others were going missing around them. They thought the others must have returned home. There was no blood. No broken brush. No tracks except for a single boot print near the river. They scoured that area but found no other signs.¡± He continues, saying, ¡°We stopped sending scouts because they never returned. We waited, hoping for someone to return. We prayed for a sign. Many weeks go by. We only send patrols a short distance to keep an eye on anything happening, but nothing happen-¡° ¡°FATHER!¡± a voice cries, and a young female comes running. ¡°They did not return,¡± she says, sobbing. ¡°Hushed Smoke and Braves the Sea,¡± she sobs. ¡°They did not return.¡± The Elder hugs the woman trying to console her. DM/ ¡°Maztica it is,¡± the Djinn says, snapping his fingers to cast the 7th Level conjuration Teleport. You find yourselves high above a humid jungle slowly drifting down from roughly 100 feet in the air. Passing through the thick green canopy you land a stone¡¯s throw from a small village of Leonin, a race of catfolk appearing like lions. As you descend, you see a tall male pushing boldly through the thick foliage toward you. ¡°What was that Bakosh said to you?¡± Brother Ashley asks Tabby as you regain your footing on solid ground. ¡°Sounded Elemental. Like Ashes Earth?¡± ¡°oshvith ssearth¡± Cerina mumbles without realizing. The words are Draconic, and a slur against the Tabaxi meaning ¡®always running away¡¯. Cerina feels disgusted by the phrase. Just then the male steps into view. He is obviously blind, but still moves confidently and stealthily. ¡°Our prayers answered,¡± he says. ¡°You have arrived at long last. Praise Qotal.¡± The Leonin Elder speaks in a thick gutteral rumble, but Flynn (wearing the Ring of the Diplomat) finds himself able to understand and translate. ¡°Come,¡± the Elder says. ¡°You need rest. You¡¯ve had a long journey.¡± When you see inside the village, it¡¯s a dismal, gray place. A dozen or so lionkin move around slowly, almost like zombies, weak from hunger, lack of sleep, and fear. He leads you into a hut and tells a young girl to bring food and drink while pointing to woven palm mats for sitting. He slowly lowers himself onto a mat as the girl returns with a basket of raw fish. Brother Ashley scrunches up his nose but one glance at Flynn and he knows he¡¯d better eat some. The Elder explains that the village of catfolk is in desperate need. It¡¯s people are starving. The rains are fouled. The crops won¡¯t grow so they can¡¯t feed their livestock, and the wild game seems to have simply disappeared. Even the fish are small and few. Like the lions of the savannah, the females go out in groups to hunt- but most never return. The men stay to defend the village but there have been no attackers. The elder says they prayed to Qotal and Qotal delivered you to them. Flynn knows a bit about the lore. According to the mythology of the Mazticans, humanity's history in the True World begins with the arrival of the gods from some unknown origin. The Mazticans believe that all the gods of Toril arrived in the jungle together but only 11 chose to remain in the jungle. They created humanity to be their playthings, first trying and failing to shape men from mud, wood and gold before Kukul sacrificed some of his fingers to be fashioned into men of flesh. The gods gave humanity many gifts, and expected to be loved and honored in turn. But the gods grew jealous and greedy over humanity's affections, and began squabbling for preeminence in their hearts. This led to war amongst the gods. Qotal defeated Zaltec and rose to become the new king of the gods... until he grew jealous of how freely and deeply humanity loved and laughed. And this was the beginning of Qotal's downfall; the dark goddess Shar crept to Maztica from her hiding place, tricked Qotal and he fell into a spellbound sleep for centuries. When Qotal awoke, he found himself usurped by Zaltec. DM/ Tabby barricades the door with broken chairs. Cerina offers to join Tabby in the hall against some monsters but the Tabaxi declines. Over the next several hours there are various thumps, bangs, and scratches at the door but no danger enters the room. For the remainder of the long rest the party bides it¡¯s time, dozing and eating and tending to their gear. Eventually Sweet William wakes, eats, and stretches, North and Brother Ashley prepare their spells, the party opens the door to peek out into the hall. Silence. Stepping out, Brother Ashley reminds everyone that there is a sudden 30 foot drop off to the left. And what do you do? /DM
