You can also take two capacitors and put them in parallel and just add the two of them together. If you need a 5 you take a 2 and a 3 and place them in parallel to get your 5.

Re: For DQ10s, what material are you using to stop buzz on rear grills?

9-4-20

I am currently rehabbing a vintage pair of DQ-20 which have a similar metal rear grill and problem.

Original manufacturer applied material was black thin foam rubber ~1/2"wide and 1/16" thick on a cellophane baker tape. Over the years this material ages out, gets hard and crumples off which makes a mess inside the grill area. That's probably why your DQ-10 pair had this material removed.

My plan to solve this same issue is to use the fabric loop half of VELCRO (hook and loop material). The loop portion is the soft carpet-like fabric strip which is self stick. Discard the hook portion of the strip (it is more rigid and the plastic hooks will attract and hold dust). I will be using a heavy duty VELCRO product (see below) which has a thicker/denser loop fabric (than standard Velcro). This should will work well to dampen the metal grill and will not get hard or rot-out over time' and the material is durable enough to be easily brushed, blow with compressed air, and/or vacuumed to clean the dust)

This what I purchased from Home Depot:

VELCRO Brand
Extreme Outdoor All Weather/Rough Surfaces (box claims: "designed to hold 1lbs per square inch; water and UV resistant, professional grade adhesive")
1 Roll? (verify your required lengths - - the DQ-10 speaker box is wider than DQ-20)
10ft roll x 1" wide (you will probably need to trim the 1" wide strip to be 3/4"wide to install it onto DQ wood shelf which holds the metal grill in-place)
Color Black
Product # 91843

Good Luck!?

Also note from underside images NOT ALL CAPS OR RESISTORS CAN UNSOKDER from board as tied into several hard wires from underneath ! So my solution was to unscrew boards look under and mark those on top! Then I just cut cap wires close to cap ends and spliced in new caps adjusting existing left wires to take new cap wires. In almost all cases I cut the clarity caps wires a lot to make then sit correctly?

Thx, I made room by offsetting the woofer resisters off to side of board on one I used big woofer cap instead of smaller one. Big one has much more head room for 1812 cannons otherwise don¡¯t notice difference .the piezo resisters are a challenge to stack in a tower on one set. The second set I laid them flat and stacked. If u replace the piezo caps ( not worth doing as originals are film caps) you have to offset off board due to size. I didn¡¯t bother on second set as I never hear anything from that driver when testing with bink audio CD which test every freq individually and sweeps . Maybe I can¡¯t hear that high..I use a dB meter and Cd to compare dB of each freq . Write them all dn as go from 20hz to20khz

The reggar caps are not equal to clarity .

I upgraded my DQ-12 with the capacitor kit from Regnar, but it didn't come out looking anywhere near as nice as this.
It is a challenge to fit the larger film caps in space used by small caps.

Not all those are 6.5! Read carefully the schematic ! Only two use 6.8! The rest are 6.0! Read the cap 1065& 1060

The 82 makes no audible diff nor does 6.8 it amount to 10-15hz in xo point. I wouldn¡¯t bother with piezo caps as they don¡¯t go bad as film grade.?

Just arrived home from a week of backpacking to find that Noico automotive sound deadener
that I ordered has arrived.? Our favorite speakers sound best without front or back grills.? Unfortunately
they look best with their front covers on.? Has anyone cut out holes in the metal grill in front of the speakers?
I had been using clay that doesn't harden to reduce grill vibrations.? I will now try these sheets of sound
deadener appropriately placed out of the way on the front grill.? This may not happen for about a week
as I dig out but my pleasure to report back.?

The grills have a lot of metal in them between the speakers and our ears.? Anyone have other ideas
to reduce interference?

Re: For DQ10s, what material are you using to stop buzz on rear grills?

I put some thin self adhesive foam tape all around the wood where the grill screws into place. I can't remember where I got it but it's maybe 1/8" thick and 3/8" wide and came in a roll. However, I've bee blowing tweeter fuses every couple or three months so the grills have been off for a couple of years!

Re: For DQ10s, what material are you using to stop buzz on rear grills?

Thanks for your response. I was asking what someone might have used since my early set does not have anything around the shelf where the grill sits.

So that¡¯s one for felt.

Re: For DQ10s, what material are you using to stop buzz on rear grills?

Yes with rear grills on.. there is a felt all around the surfaces where grill sits on the bottom ,sides and top.. I play them at 75-90 dbs so I can¡¯t hear any buzzing from the grills
