Re: DQ-20i Refoam Spacer

There’s a few utube videos, simply speakers has one. I’ve done a dozen or so and if you carefully center as the video shows you should have voice coil rubbing .

I can do the refoam, as I said I've done a bunch. My issue is the new foam not putting the cone at the correct height, it pulls the spider up about .2" from neutral.
Adding a spacer to the bottom of the masonite would push the cone down making the spider level again.?

I'm not a good fabricator but it looks like I'll have to try....

A process I used was to glue the voice coil first, let it dry, then hook the speaker up to an audio source and put the glue on the frame edge of the new foam. Now turn on the audio source to a 80 Hz test tone and the voice coil will center itself. Have to keep it on for about 30 minutes and keep checking the glued area to make sure it stays together.?

I've got a pair of DQ-20i that the PO refoamed with rubbing voice coils. I've done lots of refoams with foam in front, foam in back, trim to fit and redo as necessary. This looks like a varsity project.....

As mentioned in other places the replacement inverted roll foam pulls the spider up from neutral necessitating a spacer. Is that a DIY project or does somebody have a side gig making and selling them?

GEORGE ABRAHAM

My DQ 10's were modified by adding a 3/4 inch MDF panel to reinforce to the front of the woofer box.? Therefore the angle has changed by that amount so that the front grill is protruding forward.? So the rear grills were never fitted by the previous owner.? Don't say I miss the rear grills as they serve no meaningful purpose. The front grills are now mounted flat as opposed to upward slant of the original design.? When I attempted to tilt the speaker upward, to mimic the original look, the sound got less defined so I left them as modified.? They are what they are and sound great with the reinforcement.? Obviously all the drivers were moved forward by the same amount to align the dispersion with the woofer.? Pics to come.

Re: Tilt or not

I saw this post and think tilt is worth investigating.? I have been scheming to build something that would let me move my DQ-10s about without me leaving my listening position.? I don't have a memory that lets me remember in great detail how different the speakers sound from tweak to tweak.? Toe-in, distance from wall, distance apart, and tilt were all on my list.? If you could just move a control back and forth to test, I bet you could really dial them in.?

Wow that was easy. I’ve been googling these speakers for a while and couldn’t find any specs on them. Thanks! Do you happen to know the maximum power they can handle?

Thanks again.
