Would having the log window (and its sort and filter controls) remain
visible when you select the Export tab be a better approach? I'm reluctant
to provide multiple filters applied to the same underlying database -- the
opportunities for user confusion seem too plentiful...

It works fine for me the way it is. However, I suspect it may be
more intuitive especially for the first time user to have a
separate filter in the export pane completely independent of the
filter in the log pane.
