Re: Drake LA-4 Amplifier
Rex: My take on the LA-4 was that it was a Line Amp as well, given that the LA-7 was a REAL item - I have one. It was a Line Amp for the RR-3 and R-4245 which were made for the Marine Reserve market.

It made sense back when it was built and the tubes were $2 each. It's more of a curiosity than anything else now. Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana. Sent with

Re: Drake LA-4 Amplifier
*** When I built my homebrew amp back around 1971, I bought the 6LQ6's from Radio Shack. They had a lifetime warranty on tubes. I carefully put the receipt in an envelope, and taped it to the bottom

Re: Drake LA-4 Amplifier
The somewhat haphazard lettering on the front panel does suggest homebrew. That looks to be a about a 300 Watt amp. Maybe 400-ish PEP if you push the tubes to the ragged edge and add forced air

Looking at the picture magnified, it does look HB, although a well done HB. Thanks for the replies, 73, Dick, W1KSZ ________________________________ Sent: Wednesday, April 17, 2024 9:31 AM To:

Re: Drake LA-4 Amplifier
This is definitely a well-executed homebrew that someone made to match his station, though the front panel may be the only thing that had to be modified. I say this having seen examples of ¡°Drake¡±

Re: Drake LA-4 Amplifier
A real Drake LA-4 is an Audio Line Amplifier. Not what is shown on the auction site, which appears to be homebrew. Interesting effort, though. Jerry, N4JL Sent: Wednesday, April 17, 2024 11:49 AM To:

Re: Drake LA-4 Amplifier
My GUESS would be, that this is an interesting home brew fabrication, but who knows? There were a lot of CB amps built with 2/4/6 sweep tubes. These days, it would cost a fair amount just for 6x

Re: Drake LA-4 Amplifier
Interesting - 6 sweep tubes. You'd need to gin up a power supply for it; I'd guess 800V at a half amp or so + filaments. The connector looks a little oddball; like an octal plug, only 11 pins. I think

Paul, I'm sure I responded to your post, but don't see it here, so am responding again. The Si5351A output is adequate to drive the 2-NT to full output on all bands. When operating straight through,
