It made sense back when it was built and the tubes were $2 each.? It's more of a curiosity than anything else now.

This is definitely a well-executed homebrew that someone made to match his station, though the front panel may be the only thing that had to be modified.? I say this having seen examples of ¡°Drake¡± station monitor scopes that were obviously repainted Heathkit scopes.

A real Drake LA-4 is an Audio Line Amplifier. Not what is shown on the auction site, which appears to be homebrew. Interesting effort, though.
My GUESS would be, that this is an interesting home brew fabrication, but who knows??
There were a lot of CB amps built with 2/4/6 sweep tubes.? These days, it would cost a fair amount just for 6x 6JB6's :-)

Interesting - 6 sweep tubes.? You'd need to gin up a power supply for it;? I'd guess 800V at a half amp or so + filaments.? The connector looks a little oddball; like an octal plug, only 11 pins.? I think SBE used similar on their amp.
? ?I'd expect it to struggle on 10M because of the interelectrode capacitances.? I once built a linear with 4 6LQ6 tubes.? 10M was not attainable, and the loading coil for 15M was like a half a turn.
? ?I have a Swan linear of similar vintage & design.? It also has 6 sweep tubes.? I got it for a song at the flea market, sans tubes.? I have replacement tubes, but a different type, and they take a different socket.? Amazon yielded up matching ceramic sockets.? That's in the forever queue of future projects.
? ?Back in the day, sweep tubes were cheap because they were made in the millions for TV sets.? That is no longer the case.
