Re: The TR-4 has 3 semiconductors - one is a neon driver
Is the solid state VFO and buffer in the TR-4 more stable than the TR-3 tube VFO, or was it changed to save a little space, heat, and power? Thanks, David KD4E

Re: The TR-4 has 3 semiconductors - one is a neon driver
One of the mysteries, I guess. There were some developments over their time that can only be guessed at ¡ª like my ¡°TR-34¡± (wish I¡¯d kept it) that was a TR-3 that was converted so well that it

Re: Proper D104 Silver Eagle Terminal Wiring Drake
Thank You Mike for your detailed reply. This is the detail I was looking for to prevent any damage to the equipment. It is quite different from the way the old connector was wired. As the D104 was

Re: Proper D104 Silver Eagle Terminal Wiring Drake
The BLUE and RED wires make up the "PTT" switch. The "RED" wire connects to the PL68 "TIP". T4XC PTT relay B+ is on the microphone socket's "TIP". The "WHITE" wire connects to the PL-68 "RING".

Re: L7 Filliment Choke Core.
It would still work even if you didn't glue it back together.? ?There is no electrical continuity to begin with.

Re: L7 Filliment Choke Core.
I don't know why I didn't think about gluing back together. Lord knows I've glued a bunch of toroids when making end fed half wave antennas.

Re: The TR-4 has 3 semiconductors - one is a neon driver
Yeah, guess I remembered wrong. Same upgrades as the 4B separates line though (new main tuning knob, neon, black lettering above the belt line, etc.). Just not officially called TR-4B.. wonder why?

Re: The TR-4 has 3 semiconductors - one is a neon driver
Well..... there never really was a TR-4B labeled as such, at least not that I am aware of. The NE2 shows up in TR-4 #27,000, which had its debut in early to mid-1967 per Ron's serial number database.

Re: The TR-4 has 3 semiconductors - one is a neon driver
David, And you must be looking at a TR-4B not a TR-4. The B is the only version with the neon. The neon indicates which PTO is active when using the external RV-4B. 73, Gary WB6OGD [email protected]>

The TR-4 has 3 semiconductors - one is a neon driver
I was just looking at the TR-4 manual. It shows three semiconductors: VFO VFO Buffer Neon Buffer. Since it's an analog display - what 'neon' is the 2N3877 driving, please? Thanks, David KD4E

Ditto the recommendation for cyanoacrylate cement. I've used it on toroids that I wanted to get around a piece of coax without removing the connector. - Jerry, KF6VB
