There are some cables that have a different spacing between the two
connectors on the molded plug. It's possible that the cable has the
wrong connector spacing on the plug. It might work with a hard push,
or it might be enough out of alignment that it doesn't make the
connection somewhere in the radio.
One of the cables I have has 8 ends on it (another I have has 9 or
10). Two of the molded "double connectors" look the same to me, but
one fits easily and one can be sort of pushed into place in some of my
radios.
If I run into that situation, I just use the individual single
connectors. Some radios only need the one connector.
I haven't seen Ray's response yet, but my email is crazy. I can see
some email comes in much later than messages that should have come in
after them, so we may find out if it's the Prolific cable that's the
problem (if it's using a fake Prolific chip, which is very common
today). If it's that, the old driver might be all that's needed.
