images of the moon taken on August 8, 2015 with the C14

开云体育

Dear All,

Here are some lunar images which have been waiting for processing on my hard driver for more than one year...

They were taken on August 8, 2015 with the Celestron 14, a Basler 1920-155 camera and an Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector (ADC).

Here is a mosaic centered on Copernicus :

The region of Pitatus with rima Hesodius. Hints of the thin rima inside rima Hesodius can be seen :

Clavius crater with low sun elevation :

I just posted in the photos section a typical image I take of the moon from my backyard. This was taken 2 days ago in 22f weather with frost all over tube and corrector. I do not have dew heaters and was wondering what is going on . The image looks soft without much detail. I'm not sure if the problem is the seeing conditions, mount , or camera.?? I am using an old Neximage 5 Planetary camera I have had for the past 5 years and will only record at 20 fps even at 640 x 480 res. I tried? a higher res. and the image would just freeze up so not sure what is going on with that. The laptop is a new Dell intel icore 7 with 16 GB RAM. My mount is a Losmandy G11 Gemini II Mount.

This is an very good solution. Dew shield and heater are a bit of a requirement for imaging in humid and / or freezing conditions.

Hello Don,
For sure seeing comes first and foremost. If it is really bad, no camera could do anything good.
This being said, cameras and software have made huge improvements since the Neximage Planetary Camera.
Hope this helps

I have a classic C14 and would be embarrassed to show my lunar images after seeing these.
I may post a jpg anyway so someone in the group can tell me what's going on. My images look
soft with not much detail. I don't even use a barlows with an older Neximage 5 Planetary camera.
I was thinking maybe its my camera; but I think its more to do with my bad seeing.

Hello Denis,
Thanks a lot :-)
I do remember that night ... it was pretty cold ...I broke part of the car front bumper because I used the car as a snow-plough to arrange a small platform for the telescope...

Hello Christan,
Wonderful lunar images from you in this and other posts. I used some of your solar and lunar images alongside a picture of you iced up with your C14 in a talk I gave to the BAA in September in Dundee earlier this year. The talk was about amateurs who go much further than the norm in their pursuit of perfect results. To my mind you are in that category. Keep up the great work and post more images when you take them.
Best wishes

Dear All,
It has been a very long time since my last image of the Moon.
Last Saturday, the weather conditions were very favourable with a strong thermal inversion (7°C at 1500 m and -3°C at 300 m), so I took the chance, pack everything in the car and get to my "summer observation site", which is usually close in winter because of too much snow.
Here are some first images with some nice riles seen with low incident light.

More to come ...
Best regards
