Re: Vixen style dovebar for C-8 EdgeHD?
Thanks. I've bookmarked it. However, I was able to coble together parts from an old C-11 mini-bar and an Orion dovetail. Stan

Re: C11 Edge HD Mirror Screws
Rick, I'm not sure we are talking about the same 2 screws. My C-14 (old, purchased 2002) has only those two. The instructions say they are for anchoring the morror when transportion the scope so it

Re: C11 Edge HD Mirror Screws
Rick, This is actually not very likely to cause a problem since there are six other screws holding the tube in place. My only real concern would be that the nuts will eventually work their way off the

Re: Vixen style dovebar for C-8 EdgeHD?
One trick I've used is to driil and tap holes in the large bar and screw the small bar to it. Orion's cg5 bar for guidescope is long and cheap- if too long just cut it! Dan

Re: C11 Edge HD Mirror Screws
Ed, Yes this is exactly what I loosened. Accidentally loosened two of these screws. Any thoughts on what could happen? I assume the scope may continually loose collimation? As I mentioned, I performed

Vixen style dovebar for C-8 EdgeHD?
Just got an 8" EdgeHD but the mounting plate is "CG5", which is sort-of Losmandy (but not really) and I can put it on my AP-900. It's a very nice "little" scope, tiny and toy-like compared to the

Re: C11 Edge HD Mirror Screws
Unfortunately, what you are describing still doesn't really make sense. There are no set screws that hold the mirror in place. Assuming that you are talking about the rear cell, there are eight

Re: C11 Edge HD Mirror Screws
Ed, Thanks for the comments. No I am referring to the small set screws that go around the entire outside of the optical tube. I think there are about 12-16 screws in all. Rick

Re: C11 Edge HD Mirror Screws
Rick, If you are referring to the two screws that emerge from the back and hold the mirror in place when transporting the telescope, have you tried pointing it at the zenith so the mirror will lie

C11 Edge HD Mirror Screws
When I was installing a CGE dovetail plate on the top of my C11 Edge HD OTA (to attach a guidescope) I accidentally loosened two of the screws that hold the mirror in place rather then the two

Chris, Thanks for the advice. I talked to the folks at Starizona and they are putting an adaptor together for me. Rick

Re: OTA upgrade advice wanted
Don, thanks for the insight on the mechanical side of auto focusing Ian, Yes I'd agree I have a small chip (QSI 532 Camera) and there does not seem to be a problem. some times I do not bother to alter

Re: OTA upgrade advice wanted
As for the exact distance. It is important, but to a degree. If you use an APS-size chip camera (as I do) it is not that critical and you may get away with +/- 5mm or so from the 146mm. There was a

Re: OTA upgrade advice wanted
How critical is the 146 mm for visual use? I have a c14 hd that I use for visual and mallincam. I try to get close to the ideal but I have not been compulsive about it. Should I? Image quality is very

Ian, I do exactly the same thing re focusing. To maintain the critical distance of 146 mm I have attached a drinking straw of the correct length to the focal reducer plane and rack the moonlite in

Re: OTA upgrade advice wanted
I had the same path going from C11 to 14" Edge. Decided from the get go to do away with trying to focus with the main mirror. I crudely focus using the focus knob, lock the mirror and forget it. Then
