Re: Caboose Markers
Thomas Sajnovic
Hi James,
As I recall, there would be on the marker light, two or three red lenses and one green lens. If I can recall clearly, when a train enters a siding and waits for the other train tto clear the mainline, and the switch is thrown for the mainline, the marker lights would be displayed in such a way that the red lenses would face to the rear of the caboose and to the side, the green lens would face the front of the train, and thus the towards the approaching train, signifying that the switch is thrown and he is clear to proceed. Anyone else have another senario in mind? Would like to hear the other uses. Hi Guys:
Sorry to report this but I have it on good authority that the 9300 and 9301 came off that 351 train in Revelstoke and will head back east (presumably to Winnipeg?) on a No. 998. Those of us west of Revelstoke will just have to hope they come through on their next trip! Jim Johnston Salmon Arm B.C. |
In Cab Signals Question
Jason Monk
Hello all,
I know that this system is becoming very commonly used in the US. I am not sure if it has been in Canada. But either way I would like to know, that if a territory has "In-Cab Signals", are signals still used on the ground. Also what equipment is there needed on the ground for sending the information to the cab of the locomotive. My reason for asking is I am modeling an imaginary rail corridor, and am at the point where I should add signals, however I would rather spend the money on locomotives, rolling stock and scenery. Plus electrical work bothers me, except for installing DCC decoders.. :) Grin! Thanks, Jason PS Sorry for crossposting however it does fit with both CN and CP lists, and I model both roads. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at |

Caboose Markers
J. Gamble
Hello all,
I'm looking for some information regarding cabooses and marker lights here in Canada, specifically, what do the red and green lights that can be displayed to the rear of the train signify, and what colour flags could be flown from the van (and why?). Here's the scoop... I'll be working for a few weeks living in a caboose, and I'd like to know what signals would properly be displayed in the days before electronic tail-end devices. Our caboose is LNAL 076 (nee CP 434547), and today I replaced the ditch lights, marker lights, etc and made sure we had clean windows before heading off to the USA. Anyways, any help would be appreciated. Re: CP 1237
Marc Simpson
This unit is seen regularly Monday-Friday on the Arbutus sub, switching the
Molson Brewery. Before Christmas 1239 was used while 1237 was being repaired. Apparently CP is planning to use beltpack GP-9u units on this job. On at least two occasions I have seen GP-38AC units on test runs on the Arbutus sub, so perhaps we will see these units here as well. Marc Simpson |
New "Canadian-Passenger-Rail" list at OneList
Christian Base
Hi all,
I have just created the "Canadian-Passenger-Rail" list at OneList: This list is a place to discuss all aspects of past, present, and future passenger rail travel in Canada. This includes all national, regional, commuter, and tourist rail carriers. Examples include VIA Rail, the passenger services of Algoma (Wisconsin) Central, Ontario Northland, or BC Rail, GO Transit, West Coast Express, Rocky Mountaineer Railtours, and South Simcoe Railway. Others not mentioned here are of course welcome. Discussions regarding freight movements unrelated to passenger rail should be posted elsewhere. I suggest the Canadian-Railways list, the C-P-R list, or the C-N-R list for these topics. This list will have moderated membership for the purposes of limiting individuals who violate the guidelines of this list. Please avoid cross posting to other lists. Polls are welcome however, please discuss with the list moderator. Files may be uploades to the files section at Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact the moderator at cbase@.... Please feel welcome! Christian. ===== ________________________________________________________________________ Christian Base Richmond Hill ON Canada MP 18.7, CN Bala Sub __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Re: Commuter Actions in Cities
Greetings
I grew up on the Montreal Lakeshore CPR commuter line (plus CNR Lakeshore service too for the first few years)and can of course easily confirm that the CP line was there many, many years before the Toronto GO services. As I have never had an original thought of my own, I?ll plagiarize from ?CANADIAN PACIFIC?s MONTREAL LAKESHORE COMMUTER SERVICES (Volume One)? by Ronald S. Ritchie, Published by BRMNA in Calgary. ?In 1884 . . . the fledgling Canadian Pacific . . . inaugurated services between Montreal as far west as Vaudreuil. By the early 1020's . . . the idea of year-round residence outside the city was beginning to take hold. At its peak . . . just before WW2, passengers had a choice of ten suburban trains in each direction . . . (+) . . . plus another 7 long distance trains . . .? The trains (about 13 a day) continue today, of course, operated by ?AGENCE METROPOLITAINE DE TRANSPORT? and in 1999 were still using some 1954/55 vintage ex-CPR FP7A?s (nee-CPR 4040 + 4070 - 4075). Andy in Windsor, ON From: "Jason Monk" <jasonmonk@...> I have some questions with regards to commuter operations past and present. I know that CP operated its own commuter rail in Montreal, but did it ever do so before GO Transit started in Toronto? ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at |

From: "Jason Monk" <jasonmonk@...> I know that CP operated its own commuter rail in Montreal, but didThe only other city I can think of for relatively recent times would be on the Toronto line towards Peterboro. These trains could be _used_ for commuting, but were not strictly set up for commuter service.
