Just received my second uBITX? #0219/4? ordered Feb 3.? Opened it up to see what TDA2822 it had and was surprised to see that it's now socketed.? I haven't seen anyone mention this. The chip is a UTC chip by the way.

I have added audio AGC to my uBITx, its a kit board from Walford Electronics (G3PCJ).
Disconnected the yellow wire from the top of the Volume pot. Yellow wire to the input of the AGC board via a 10 K resistor.
Output to the top of the Volume pot. Removed R235 and connected top of C252, to top of the Volume pot via 1 K resistor and 0.1 microfarad in series? (Cap stops? DC on the input of the audio amp )
This now puts the CW side tone in after the AGC board.
I also replaced the TDA2822M with a LM380-8 will need a bit of jiggling with the pin connections. hint turn it upside down.
The LM380-8 will work from 10 to 18 volts, and has built in thermal protection.

I would call this a scribe or a grinder. The point of a burin pushes a "v" of copper away from the surface--it literally lifts the copper out of the groove. There's an interesting video at ?(fast forward to just before 5:00 mark) that shows how an image is engraved on a copper plate using a burin. Old, old, very old technology! The ivory carving tools look like diamond-coated rotary grinders. For removing small amounts of PCB, I've used inexpensive diamond-tipped battery operated scribers that I think I picked up at my local dollar store.

it seems that most electret elements are pretty much the same.? There may
be slight differences in the built-in FET.? Comparison can be made by using
an oscilloscope or sensitive AC voltmeter to measure output.?
BITX designs seem to work best with 45 to 50 millivolts of audio input.?
Electret microphone capsules have wide frequency response, usually flat
from 20 Hz to over 20 KHz.? The case that they are installed in could have
some small effect on bandwidth.?

I had this problem with 10 Nanos I recently purchased. Someone posted here that the IDE made a minor change that rendered some of the Arduino boards "unloadable"...you could not get a sketch to upload to the Nano. The fix was to select the Nano (Tools --> Boards), but to also set the processor (Tools --> Processor) to ATMega328P, the 'P' being the key. Then select the Port (Tools --> Port). I then tried to load the ASCII Table sketch (File --> Examples --> Coomunications --> Ascii Table). The first try failed, but the second always worked. I don't know why this is, but my guess is that the first attempt does something to "fix" the bootloader and the second attempt actually accepts the sketch.
Worth a try...

I have avoided arduinos with the CH340/CH341 chip set for that reason.? I have not found a reported reliable driver for the mac as of yet.? Unfortunately, most require an admin level system hack and/or cause a kernel panic. ? I am not ready to experiment with these drivers yet.? They seem to change with every OS release. ?the CH340 engineers are not on top of this.
I forgot to check the chip set in the Raduino when I bought it...? I may have to unsolder the provided Nano and replace it with one that uses the PL-2303 chip set.
Did you solve the problem?

I have tried any number of electret capsules over the years. There *is* a difference in how they respond, some have high output and some don't. Skunk oil is rendered skunk fat. It had many uses such as a liniment and a skin protectant. There really isn't much use for it nowadays as it's considered a folk remedy and very little proof has been gathered as to its medicinal properties. When rendered properly, skunk oil is about the thickness of motor oil. Why do I know this? Because my great-grandparents talked about it one day and satisfied my curious questions. They passed away in the early 90s at the ripe old age of 90 and change. They were together at the turn of the century in an arranged marriage and renewed their wedding vows at 70 years in the seventies.
Sorry for the OT, but sometimes this is what we talk about on the air as we socialize and discuss things.
