Re: uBITX Low Power Output

Most of the good electret microphones are actually the cheap electrets that
are sold by name brand dealers.? Over the years that BITX has been around
it seems that most electret elements are pretty much the same.? There may
be slight differences in the built-in FET.? Comparison can be made by using
an oscilloscope or sensitive AC voltmeter to measure output.?

BITX designs seem to work best with 45 to 50 millivolts of audio input.?

Electret microphone capsules have wide frequency response, usually flat
from 20 Hz to over 20 KHz.? The case that they are installed in could have
some small effect on bandwidth.?

It seems to be reading my other radio correctly with the same dummy load, so I suspect that is not it...

I am using a cheap Baofeng mic.? I drilled a hole over the electret to actually expose the mic, but I wonder if still it isn't giving enough gain...

Is there a performance difference between cheap and decent electrets?? Would it be worth replacing the capsule with the one that came with the uBitx, or are they all more or less the same?
