I was able to resolve the power issue with \drive 100 on the sBitx running on the extra monitor. I tried switching bands & quick transmit and now I¡¯m getting 3W on 10 meters. ?Thanks for the help!

Stuck on Waiting for the zBitx to start
After updating firmware, my zBitx ran ok once, but on the next power up is stuck on the "waiting" message. Also, I am unable to log in the pi as I don't know the default password (can't get into the files section to check user.ini). I attemped to change the PASSKEY but that keeps reverting back to "PASSKEY" when I power up again, and "PASSKEY" doesn't seem to work as my pi user password.? Any ideas?

Leo,
Get the latest wiringpi from github. It works. I have installed the zbitx from souce as instructed in install.txt file. I used an earlier version and the wiringpi gave runtime error.
Hope it helps. I have not tested complete zbitx functions as I do not have full hardware.

Re: zbitx - No Tx on WSJTX?
Still not working?
Can change band using wsjt-x.
Test CAT does nothing.
Pressing Tune causes the zbitx to reboot?

The week ended ... my zbitx order, paid for in Dec 2024, is still ; " Your Order #3481 Current status : Awaiting processing " .
I'm hoping that the sales @ Hamvention will not proceed before receiving my order....

Ashhar,
Thanks for that explanation - yes, the components and subassemblies in the zBitx are subject to numerous tariffs, but those tariffs are 'baked into' the price of the device offered by HF Signals. A zBitx (for example) imported into the US from India is not subject to any of US tariffs in the news today because of the de minimus clause/exception, since they are shipped individually, but as you describe the various components as they work their way from the factory to you (HF Signals) are subject numerous tariffs as they cross international borders.
As has been discussed previously in this forum, other countries treat the importation of HF Signals products differently, sometimes imposing tariffs or other fees on the imported devices, but that is not, and to the best of my knowledge will not, be the case in the US because of the de minimus clause/exception.

So many believe that CW decoders are their answers. They're not!? I've been doing morse since 1970 and have seen and played with a few decoders. No matter how well they work they can't help the operator who is sending the code who run their letters together bad spacing etc or likely deal with the static crashes signal fading. That said the decoder on my SBITX is par and I like when it doesn't know it puts the .... or the ----- in so you can guess. If you want to give it a fair chance tune in W1AW code practice since it is computer generated its spacing and speed spelling are all spot on. Plus the transmitt on several? bands so you can always find a strong one.

Wouldn't it be better if the device was declared at customs as educational subassemblies? In principle, there is nothing wrong with it, we don't make a profit, we don't resell and by the nature of the product the device can be continuously improved. Possibly even a disassembled product. Surely radio amateurs can assemble a housing... On this principle, for lower customs duties, many industrial assemblers receive televisions. Just an opinion...

Andy,

The difference is I'm talking about what *is*, and you are talking about what *could happen*, what *may happen*, and how it does effect items other than those sold/shipped by HF Signals (like batteries from China)...
?
It would have been helpful if you described the scope of your comment, described how it doesn't actually relate to anything sold by HF Signals, which is the focus of this group.

Ken, I didn't bother posting other text as the focus is in the URL.

Note that it was removed because it was determined the systems are in place to collect the tax.? It takes a stroke of the pen to expand the exception.? Anyone that has added tariffs to islands populated only by seals and penguins is already coloring well outside the lines.

While it might not directly impact the radio itself yet, it likely will impact folks buying LiCo cells and chargers, and other accessories used when operating and upgrading our radios.

We get the pcbs fabricated at JLCPCB. We pay almost 60% duty (including anti dumping duty) on these as it arrives in India and then the finished product is shipped to the customers in USA and other countries.
My back of the envelope calculation is that more than 50% of the cost of zbitx is in double and triple duties.
Here is an example, consider the Si5351. It is imported into China at 20% duty, then it is soldered onto the PCB and sent to India. Indian customs duty and anti dumping duty is another 50% for imports from China. Effectively, the Si5351 in the hands ofAmerican costs 5 dollars instead of 2 dollars.
It would be much simpler of we could find a reliable pcb assembler in the USA who handles our kind of relatively lower volumes. We did try to search but never found one.

Aaron,
I think you are confusing the new zBitx with the yet-unannounced suit x 4, which HF Signals has not, as far as I am aware, not even announced specific plans for, let alone discussed a possible release date.
