Re: Error in Sound Input
#sBITX_v3
I could not eliminate the cause of the error message.
When the number of stations in the band is low, the message does not appear. The RPi 4B has 4GB of memory and htop shows that almost all 4 cores work at 100% during decoding, but there is no additional memory usage beyond 318MB. There is only a significant change in the use of the cores. When there are many stations in the band, the decoding naturally takes longer (in my case it happened for 5 seconds), so I set the AUTOSEQ setting to 'Call based on end of decoding'. The various forum discussions and websites with this topic always talk about the separate PC and separate radio, where they try to eliminate the presence of rfi. In our case, this is difficult to check because everything is built into one. If you live in a less densely populated area and use the radio, you will probably not experience this error message. -- Gyula HA3HZ |
Re: Audio configuration help.
Loading the OS from USB does not change the sound.
The audio path to the speaker is the LM380N, which does not work below 10V. Since you wrote the 13.8V measurement, the cause must be looked for elsewhere. If you use the device with the 7" display in ft8 mode, with the v3.02 software, you can set the own voice during the broadcast on the screen where ft8 works. In previous versions, you have to go to the cw screen to be able to set the own voice. -- Gyula HA3HZ |
Re: sbitx v2 update
addendum:
it's not the software that changes the chances of failure, but the current-limiting power supply, a well-matched antenna and a well-functioning silent fan that is attached to the heatsink. The rest of my modifications were my own attempts. I note that my antenna is sized for 7MHz (43.8m wire length) and I can use it on three bands without a tuner. -- Gyula HA3HZ |
Re: sbitx v2 update
Don,
if you read on the linked page, you can see that this is a modification of the DE version. This change is not a change to v2. You don't need to modify the v2, if your power supply is current limiting, it will work for a long time. Use a well-matched antenna and you will be successful. I uploaded and only store my QSOs made with sBitx here. I'm using V2 with v3.02 software, PSU 12.5V to 6.00A current limit. My antenna is an inclined vertical loop antenna fed from above (10m at its highest point). Try it yourself! -- Gyula HA3HZ |

I understand some folks are having issues with the upgrade check function on version 1.x of the Toolbox. The update check on version 1.x will NOT work by upgrading to version 2.x due to file and code reorganization.
Here are the steps to remove 1.x and reinstall 2.x For toolbox version 1.x ? Type:?cd sBITX-toolbox Type:?chmod +x *.sh Type:?./installer.sh -JJ |

Re: Antuino V2.1 mods page missing

Joel,
I? would not go back to the older version.? There were some bugs and features that Ashhar Farhan fixed and added.? I ignore the flashing numbers.? They go away when you switch to the run mode screen. Be aware of the shortcomings of the Antuino.? The most significant is the "gaps" in the measurements when the scan is set for a wide frequency range.? I do not remember all the details, but testing for 20-meter harmonics has to be done in steps as the span to the third has gaps.? I tried to correct that by sweeping through the gaps, but the scan time became excessive, and the noise level on the floor got too high. The competing products are using FFT to do a better job of scanning.? They are also less expensive now or much more capable (TinySA and TinysA Ultra).? The demo video shows that it is an excellent toy to play with and is suitable for antenna tuning in the field or testing low-power circuits.? It is also an excellent tool to learn the Arduino IDE by trying to fix some of the shortcomings. Have fun playing with it. 73 Evan AC9TU |
sbitx v2 update
Hi All. I haven't touched my v2 unit for a while, and I'm getting ready to update to the latest software version. I have not done the PA mod as described here... Does the update change the odds of PA failure? I think I read that a previous update reduced the chances, but of course now I can't find that thread... Thanks. Don |

Hi Evan,
Thanks for your help in figuring this out. When i turn my Antunio on it comes up to a screen that on the bottom says VTVM and the VTVM icon flickers because I don't have anything connected to A7 on the Nano, so I'm already running the V2.2. So, the V2.1 firmware is for if you don't have the VTVM circuit built and hooked up and the V2.2 is for if you do. I don't see much point in adding the volt meter circuitry so I think I will drop back to the V2.1 firmware. It's terrible getting older and loosing my memory. Joel N6ALT |
Re: sBitx mitigation of hearing deficits / Science Fair Fertile Ground For High School Mathematicians
Dave K8WPE, There is a miracle hearing aids? called bone conduction hearing aids. My friend who is a ham had the same problem . He is totally deaf thru the outer ears but inner ear sections i guess work. Anyway he uses a device on the bone, no surgery, no meds nothing and hears like DEER in the woods. havent Messed with them but my friend says he can hear night and day from it. He has some conditions which prevent him from going under the knife so the specialist recommended he use these. They work 100% he listens to CW SSB and has participated in pileups and such. They just sit on the bone, no surgery and can be taken off anytime you want. They are more expensive but his insurance covered most since it was a necessity. Dont know the particulars of the exact model. My friend doesnt talk about his alot.but i believe this is what he is using or something similar. If you dont want to pay the retail prices of the medical community, lots of items on ebay and amazon that does similar jobs but dont know which ones will work for you. ?The other one listed is off ebay.: i believe its $109 ,the one made in the usa with the creators photo. The first one runs several thousands of dollars Hope this info helps . 73 David ac9xh

Thanks Evan for the photo of the sketch. The missing info on the DVM circuit was one of the reasons I never updated my Antuino.

Re: Audio configuration help.
Okay, I found part of my issue. One was that the Volume control was somehow hidden from the taskbar.
But I don't think that is the main source of my no-sound problem.? As a goof, I plugged in the headphones to the side EAR jack and sure enough, there was the sound.. checking the schematic I can see and hear the audio feed to U9 the LM380N amplifier on the [AMP IN] pin 2 after it passes through the headphone jack. Testing for power at the amp, I can also measure 13.8v on one side of RD23 and approximately 4v on the other side feeding pin 14. The output from the amp is all but silent on pin 8 and C32 shows no signs of distress. When I probe with an 8 ohm speaker I can just faintly hear the sounds of the FT8 Frequency I have tuned to. It certainly looks as if RD23 has opened up for some strange reason.? |
Re: Antuino V2.1 mods page missing
#antuino
Hi Joel,
The file you listed is the newer software that does not have the schematic.?? Here is the YouTube video where Hans describes the new functionality in the new software: It is more about how to use it than the device's details. I updated the software on my unmodified Antuino, so I believe it will work on yours.? If my memory serves, the change was to adjust for some units that showed attenuation errors due to too much gain. There was a mod to add a voltmeter of sorts to go with the added section on the display.? That was documented with a hand-drawn sketch.? I have attached a file with a picture. 73 Evan AC9TU |
