Thanks for the community and Mr. Bill Cromwell in particular...and check this 20m DX FT8 range

Many public thanks to Mr. Cromwell Ku8H for taking the time and effort to fix my uBITX. He received it with no transmit, and sent it back to me with full transmit glory.
As testimony, observe the pskreporter showing my uBITX FT8 TX received in Norway (LA9KY) ~3,800 miles away. All hale Cromwell!? Don km4udx |
uBitx success
Hi,
I have completed my planned modifications for my radio by taming that million decibel sidetone (with surgical implant) and have successfully installed the CEC software. I am getting the hoped for results. Thanks to KD8CEC for the effort he put in and to him and all the others with helpful comments on getting it all running. I found quite a few stumbling blocks getting, installing, and running all the pieces but at each step I just looked up what people have already posted about it and made it all the way to the end:) I'll still be around to help in whatever small ways I can and watching the progress of the internal filter mods. When something usable comes along I will probably install it in my radio. 73, Bill KU8H -- bark less - wag more |

One definition of an expert is "a has been drip under pressure" (ex-spurt) - :) About that notice of violation comment - I am not so sure about other countries but FCC is not going to send a team of commandos to your house and haul you away to a gulag in some remote desert. They are not going to confiscate your dog, your pickup truck, your family, and your morning coffee. They send you a letter that tells you what they 'heard on the air', and when. You have more than thirty seconds (is it thirty days?) to answer them in writing explaining what you think happened and more - what you are going to do to prevent it happening again. That seems pretty reasonable to me. There are a lot of acceptable things that could be in that explanation and remedy. They'll be happy. You may be in the market for a new radio or a repair to the "offending" gear. As for me I already know I need to use an external filter until more elegant repairs can be made. If that is not good enough I will retire the uBitx to receive-only duties in the shack and some service on the workbench. Power amplifiers disabled (remember that funny little brown wire?) to assure no further incidents. So far we have no reports from the concentration camps of disasters befalling anybody using a uBitx :) Relax and enjoy your life :) 73, Bill KU8H Old School Too or maybe just *old* On 08/23/2018 10:57 AM, Bo Barry wrote:

Ashhar..
Thank you for all you do. I believe in? line 5 of your instructions there is a typo.. "Replace 97", should be "Replace R97". I have been keenly interested in "leveling the Transmitter output" across the bands, for appropriate reasons. Because of component costs of surface mount components, I am expecting someone to put together a "kit of parts" for this mod. I may even contemplate this- HOWEVER - FIRST- I think a number of Beta testers need to shake this down on the air for a few months. I am prepping for a? 2000 mile car trip ahead of me in September. As we're at the bottom of the Sun spot cycle, things are going to get better all the time so this mod will be welcomed. If there is an interest in a "mass purchase" of this mod, PLEASE do not clutter the FORUM- PRIVATE MAIL ME. include with or without a pair of RD16HHF... I will form a list to advise everyone if we get enough interest OR if someone else wants to offer the mod Kit - everyone is welcome - ain't going to get rich.? Private Email me at am_fm_radio (at) yahoo (dot) come? - Place "uBITX XMIT mod kit" in the subject line. 73- Larry W8LM |

You're referring to the regulator on the Randuino? ?I'm considering adding a resistor to cool the 7805.?
Measure the voltage ACROSS the resistor and the input to the 7805 to ground and report back. Surprised a 1/4w worked. I guess this needs to be done for both versions, the one with the LCD display and without with the Nextion display. Thanks Bo W4GHV? |
Re: Nextion 3.2 for CEC 1.097

I may or may not do a 3.5" version.? It's a lot of work as you have to change every element on every page.? It would be nice if there was a way to easily scale it to different size screens, but you basically end up remaking it for each screen size.? Plus I don't have a 3.5" screen and although the editor does give you a good idea how things look and function, it's still not as good as having an actual screen.

Those of you that already have or are interested in our BITeensio (Teensy 3.6 MPU) card for the uBITX take a look at the "TSW" website, and you will see a preview of some things to come.? The Color TFT display shown is NOT a Nextion as we abandoned attempts to use the Nextion display.? Unfortunately the Nextion and it's editor are "Single Source" meaning you can get it (mainly the editor as there are closes of the display) from only ONE place.? Not so with the ILI9341 based TFT Color Displays and also the larger RA8875 based displays for which a 5" one is the next project being worked on.
The finishing touches are being tweaked for the 2.8" version shown installed in one of my uBITX radios on the website.? A small wireless keyboard turns out to be a nice addition as you can control the radio completely from the KB and you have the added benefit of a built in Keyboard type CW keyer.? You can also use a plug-in USB keyboard as long as you don't use a lighted one as the lighted keyboards draw too much current from the Teensy's on-board USB hotst power supply./ Jim Sheldon, W0EB |

If that trace between the relays for rx is not grounded during transmit, it will carry enough RF energyThanks, Jerry.? That's what I was thinking. I probably need to build a little RF probe and follow the transmit path to find the problem. |

I guess I'm old school. ?Or one reluctant to complain.
If it's cheap and WORKS, DON'T 'FIX'IT! ? Period. If it's expensive and has problems, RETURN it. Period. If you like to modify it, have at it, AND DON'T COMPLAIN!? If you get a violation notice, get a new radio, don't complain. I'm happily using one and just tinkering with another just to refresh my memory from long ago when I was an 'expert' according to some. Grateful to Farhan for this innovative toy radio (that is as sensitive as my Icom 7300) and that I could afford TWO of them. ? Note on the 15v mod. I've ordered a mean well supply adjustable from 13.8 to 15 for under $20. Stay tuned for a report. |
Re: ?B K1 Relay, RF Side
There's an awful lot of gain between Q90 and the IRF510's.

If that trace between the relays for rx is not grounded during transmit, it will carry enough RF energy to create a really impressive oscillator. Unfortunately, it won't necessarily be at the operating frequency. Jerry, KE7ER On Thu, Aug 23, 2018 at 07:04 AM, Arvo W0VRA wrote:
In transmit, the trace between K3 pin 14 and K1 pin 12 is disconnected from the antenna at K3 and connected to ground at K1.? What is the designer's intention for doing that?? Wouldn't disconnecting the trace from the antenna be enough? |
