Re: should I keep bitxmap.com going?
Greetings from sunny South Africa :-)
Please keep map active and idea of showing station status will be good as well. Seems I entered my details some time ago but then forgot about using... Idea of a 'reminder' would likely be appreciated by many. Keep safe and thank you again for creating. P.S. I accidentally added a new entry whilst attempting to navigate on mobile and discovered that it is possible to delete point simply by logging in... Hope there is some sort of 'master back-up' in place in case of accident or worse still deliberate vandalism... 73 |

Hi Ed,
You haven't mentioned your antenna, however it could be like others have said and due to common-mode current getting into some of the control circuits.? Do you have a dummy load you can try out with?? That would be good as when it acts up again, you could switch in the dummy load and see how works then. Another option, if you don't have a dummy load, would be to lower the power out a bit and see if that helps keep it from happening. 73 and have a good day, Mark |

Re: Sticking TX/RX Relay UBITX V 6
Ed,
As Curt suggested, it could be RF feedback into the control circuit (Nano) of the rig.? You can try the different bands as Curt suggested, as well as a dummy load.? I found on my v4 and v5 that I had the issue with an off-center fed dipole.? I did not have the issue on a properly shielded dummy load.? I would try the dummy load first if you have one. As to the relay construction, it is spring return.? You should also note that the relay is pulled in on the first key down, and then held in until after the adjustable time delay.? The actual signal is sent by the keying signal from the Nano.? This unbalances the first mixer and allows the RF frequency set by the Nano to go directly to Q90 and the rest of the power amplifier stages.? The keying signal is digital, not through the relays. I do not have a v6, so cannot comment on the accuracy of the schematic.? I would recommend that you download the PDF version from HF Signals.? I have not found any errors in the v4 or v5 schematics.? The v6 is basically the v5 with a redesigned Raduino, and moving most of the controls and audio connections to plugs on the mainboard.? The relay layout and control should be the same. Just suggestions, please use your own judgment. 73 Evan AC9TU |

Hi Reed,
unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope at hand right now. I ordered a few Nanos as replacement instead. I wonder a bit about the numbers in the wide bar separated by comma in your YT clip: I bet these are the selected x-y-coordinates on the display? Mine are in the range 179-344 and 41-126 only. 73 de Urs |

The first thing I'd recommend checking on the nano would be the oscillator Y1 on pins 7/8 of the ATMega (if you have access to an oscilloscope?), since if that's not working right, resonating at 16MHz, it could make the uC do all sorts of wonky slow stuff.

Re: Sticking TX/RX Relay UBITX V 6
I have had two k3 relays go bad on different ubitx. The numbering has been unique but the relay only fits one direction.?
The relay is in receive without power being carried through the coils. When you apply power it turns off the receive circuits and turns on the transmit.? The other pins in the relay disconnect the antenna to the receiver when in transmit.? -- 73 Dave |

Hi Reed,
many thanks again for your feedback. I just watched your clip on YT () and wow(!) the feedback of the touches and encoder tweaks is amazing compared to the performance of my Nano while running the same sketch. Mine is like running in very slow motion closed to be frozen. I will check on my Nano, unfortunately I don't have a spare one. 73 de Urs |
Re: Sticking TX/RX Relay UBITX V 6
Curt,
I can try 10 meter to determine if the TX/RX relay continue its troublesome ways.? The gentle adjustment with a ball peen hammer on the TX/RX relay will be the last step in the?trouble shooting?process.
Thanks for your thoughts.? I will try 10 meters tomorrow.
Take care,
Ed

I suggest trying different bands and antennas, if you have more than one, before blaming the relay. Another possibility is RF feedback into the raduino. If indeed you have a stuck relay, as I did once, gently tap on it. Mine was cured, so far okay. If you study the board, you can see which relays belong to the low pass filters, then the TR relay will stand out. Curt |
Re: Sticking TX/RX Relay UBITX V 6
Mark,
Thanks for the input.? When the relay was sticking intermittently all I had to do was send a short dit by closing the key some time it took two or three short dits after I finished my CQ call.?
Today when the relay was really misbehaving as I was?calling CQ in code (only two iteration were sent) the return to the receive mode seem to slow down until it stuck.? I open the radio the last time the relay stuck, I did touch the 3 heat sink they were warm but not overly hot.? I turn the radio off?after allowing it to cool some?I turn it back on and then sent a few short dits from the key and then the relay?returned to receive mode.??
I will need to get a relay diagram to determine if the?relay is electro-magnetic activated to TX mode?and spring activated to RX mode or electro-magnetic activated in both direction.?
Take Care,
Ed??

What did you do to get the relay back in receive mode? 73 |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWhile I am new to the forum and have not heard of that issue- you may want to look at the voltage on the coil and make certain that it is not holding the relay into the TX position. Others, more knowledgeable can likely chime as to in whether that is even a possibility. ? Dale W4OP ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of edwarduncleshrek via groups.io ? Hi All, ? I have been trying to make CW contacts on 40 meter over the last few weeks, only to find that the TX/RX relay started sticking in the transmit position?after sending CQ's.? This last time I thought the?relay had give up the ghost.? I finally got the relay back?into the receive mode.? Here is my questions:??Is the UBITX V6 schematic on the HF Signals website correct?? As I read that schematic the TX/RX relay is K3?? Is there any remedial action that I can take to fix the relay or is it a remove and replace only option?? ? ? The reason I ask is in reading the many group post, I found one that said the HF Signals UBITX V6 schematic was wrong do not use.? If this is the case can someone direct me to the correct UBITX V6 schematic and the location of the TX/Rx relay on the board.?? ? Thanks much for the help, ? Ed???? |
