Re: pickit3 guide
Dennis Rieger
This is the best setup information I have seen. The YouTube video is OK but somewhat confusing in some places. I struggled for a while before getting the programmer to work. If I had had this information it would have been simple.
Thanks for your write-up and files. Dennis KK5DB |
Re: low power tuner options help
hi Paul,
if you would like to use your ATU-100 as a ATU-50 (I name it so) you must change the windings of the coupler to 5 windings. After this you have to change EEPROM-cell 31 to "05" and cell 05 to "02". So tuning will start with more than 2 Watts and power reading will be safe up to abt. 40W (see user manual). I show you here: (green surroundings) 73 Immo |
Re: atu kit programing or read the pic
hi Paul,
you can read the hex from the PIC. Nothing will happen. For connecting it, look at my post #1994? cheers Immo, DL5KB |
atu kit programing or read the pic
Hi all this atu-100 kit arrived today,it has all the smd bits pre soldered,i want to know if its ok to try and read or write too the pic without all the caps and torroids etc fitted,ie just the power and programing header fitted and hooked up to the pickit3,or will it blow something up?,cheers m3vuv 73.

low power tuner options help
Hi all,i have a new at-100 kit,i want to use it with a prc 320 clansman mil radio,it outputs about 3 watts in the tune position and 3 watts low power+ 30watts high power, what mods can i do to the atu-100 to use it with the radio,i have the pickit3 programer, modding it for 10watt is too low and 100 to high for tunning, any ideas?,cheers m3vuv 73.

Re: pickit3 guide
hi all you YLs,? XYLs and OMs,
?
I see a great problem opposed to all of you, who didn't use any micro-chips in the past.?I myself, had this issues too, but solved them.I updated as well ready built sets as also builts from kits.?I add some pictures to this thread, how to connect the PICkit3-programmer to the ATU?
You have to disconnect first the display-connections from the PCB. Often these wires are soldered to the board, specially at ready built tuners. But they are connected with plugs to the display. These connections can be used. You have to spend one extra connection for the MCLR. Pay attention to the sequential arrangement of the connections!
For programming you do not use power-up of the tuner. Let it supply from the PICkit itself. You only have to select 5V supply and set a check at the GUI of the PICkit.
?
And at last a hint: first load the hex from the tuner and save it! Last possibility to save the actual program from the tuner. Good success and good luck! Immo, DL5KB The attachment for PICkit 3 are fully working also at WIN10... |
Re: Voltage regulator warm during programming
Hi David,

I did try that but got a message from MPLAB IPE that the circuit was drawing too much current, although I did not measure the draw. I read elsewhere about programming at a lower voltage so may try to see if that works. 73, Matt "David Fainitski" <rolin791@...> writes: Hi, Matt |
Voltage regulator warm during programming
Hi all,
I noticed that when my PicKit 3.5 is connected to my ATU100 (EXT, PIC 1938), the 78L05 on my board gets warm to the touch - much warmer than when the device is in it's normal operation mode. I have seen the same effect with another PIC project of mine. My concern is that the PicKit is for some reason drawing a lot of current and will eventually kill the 78L05 or damage itself. Is this normal? Do I need to do anything to protect the voltage regulator or the programmer? 73, Matt |
Re: Possible PA damage during tuning?
#ATU-10
Thanks all
I will look into using the EXT signal to trigger a protection circuit |
