Try to set the unit to test mode ( press tune bypass an auto, all 3, simultaneously on power on), check the relay operation.
?That will let you confirm firmware an hardware functionality (*pressing auto and bypass you increase or decrease C or L values).?

The display may be damaged by 12V passing via pic. Replace it.

Yes, it is using the default display, i.e. 4E. The display driver I have is PCF8574T and as per the manual it's address is 4E, which is also default.
Upon powering on, I do hear a click - I think one of the relays get triggered. Button press does nothing.
