FTM-500 - Transmit from APRSIS32? 10
Been experimenting with APRSIS32 and my FTM-500, mixed results. Using the standard Yaesu cable SCU-56. - I can get data from the transceiver into APRSIS32. That is, when I configure and enable a port for the FTM-500, and run APRS on the radio, the APRS traffic is streamed into APRSIS32 - I cannot seem to transmit via RF from APRSIS32 to the FTM-500. The packets fall onto the floor as they say. - Similar when I connect the FTM-500 to my PC and use Processing (processing.org) to open up a serial connection - I can stream data in but not transmit. This doesn't surprise me too much as I suspect that the write handshake is not being handled correctly by the Processing Serial object, but I need to investigate this more. Also I assume but need to verify that the oddball way that the FTM-500 formats APRS messages is involved as well. Fairly sure that I'm formatting packets correctly from APRSIS32. Not looking for deep dive help necessarily, but curious if others know whether this is possible (and/or with earlier radios in the FTM family).

Open Source 7
I have just opensourced the following software: APRSISCE (APRSIS32) APRSISMO APRSISDR My father's wishes were to do this upon his passing. He did not want any of his software to go commercial use, so I have added a GPL license to the source code. I have published on the APRS Foundation github which will ensure a very long life to the administration of the access to the source code. I plan to continue to act as keeper of the source code, so please reach out to me if you are wanting to work on the software, but it is here for you to work on in keeping with the license. https://github.com/APRSFoundation Paul (D) - KJ4DXK Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ This software was brought to you by the letters L and P and the number 42.

HF APRS Time Lapse Video -- Timeout Setting? 8
All: I recently recorded a time lapse video showing APRS-VARA activity on the 30-meter band (see below). The condensed video is only a few minutes long, but the actual recording time was approximately 8 hours. When I played it back, I noticed that stations would periodically disappear from the map over a certain amount of time and some would then reappear. My guess is that this is due to the time-out feature, which assumes a station is no longer active if no packets are heard over a given time period. It's obviously a useful feature, but I was wondering if the timeout can be modified for demonstration purposes i.e., video demos? Moderated Object 8
I was asked to place a repeater as an object on the map. I did the following, but got an extra line - the one with 'ExtraMHz' in it. I didn't type that, what does it mean?

I was just about to ask, when... 6
I am still struggling to process the fact that Lynn is no longer with us. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Lynn (and Paul) several times when we worked bike ride events near Orlando over quite a few years. I was both astonished and honored that he remembered me each time we saw each other. I was particularly surprised when he APRS messaged me out of the blue one time when he must have realized I was actively mobile. Lynn was remarkable. He was the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. His passing profoundly saddened me. We all miss him. In early December, I was having a small issue with the software. I was literally getting ready to put a message on here with the hope that Lynn would respond with words of wisdom as he always did, when word of his untimely passing struck. I've been so dismayed that I haven't gotten around to putting that message on here until now to see if one of the other clever folks here might have an answer. I run the software on several computers - they're all a little different since they serve different purposes. One of my instances of the software always starts with the "View" set to "None" and the map tile selection set to one other than the "Original" one. At some point, I must have selected those options (although I don't know why I'd select "None" for the "View"), but they have somehow become somewhat permanent. I have to change them at every start. I suspect that information is stored in the XML file somewhere, but I can't find where that might be. I know just enough about the XML file to be dangerous, and I've searched for every version of character strings I could think of that might be used. Long ago, I thought I was told that if you ended the program in a less-than-full window, the XML file would store all the current parameters so that it would open again as you left it when you closed it. I've tried that, but it doesn't seem to work, so maybe I misunderstood that situation. So, does anyone happen to know where or how those two parameters (selections for "View" and "Screen/Tile set") are stored so I can change them? I have no problem editing the XML file as long as I know what I'm looking for (and I do make a copy of the current working file before I start tinkering...). Thanks. Gil Chapin, WB2UTI
