Re: I was just about to ask, when...
Gil, As long as the window isn't maximized, you are correct that it is supposed to save the current settings upon exit. Do you have it "docked" in a corner or half screen on close? This may interupt the save as well. Do you have the xml file open on close? That will cause issues. Is it installed in a read only folder? Or has that folder permissions changed? Just trying some low hanging fruit, I can't currently get at my xml files to do any creative searching for those settings. I was just about to ask, when...
I am still struggling to process the fact that Lynn is no longer with us.? I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Lynn (and Paul) several times when we worked bike ride events near Orlando over quite a few years.? I was both astonished and honored that he remembered me each time we saw each other.? I was particularly surprised when he APRS messaged me out of the blue one time when he must have realized I was actively mobile.? Lynn was remarkable.? He was the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.? His passing profoundly saddened me.? We all miss him.
?
In early December, I was having a small issue with the software.? I was literally getting ready to put a message on here with the hope that Lynn would respond with words of wisdom as he always did, when word of his untimely passing struck.? I've been so dismayed that I haven't gotten around to putting that message on here until now to see if one of the other clever folks here might have an answer.
?
I run the software on several computers - they're all a little different since they serve different purposes.? One of my instances of the software always starts with the "View" set to "None" and the map tile selection set to one other than the "Original" one.? At some point, I must have selected those options (although I don't know why I'd select "None" for the "View"), but they have somehow become somewhat permanent.? I have to change them at every start.? I suspect that information is stored in the XML file somewhere, but I can't find where that might be.? I know just enough about the XML file to be dangerous, and I've searched for every version of character strings I could think of that might be used.
?
Long ago, I thought I was told that if you ended the program in a less-than-full window, the XML file would store all the current parameters so that it would open again as you left it when you closed it.? I've tried that, but it doesn't seem to work, so maybe I misunderstood that situation.
?
So, does anyone happen to know where or how those two parameters (selections for "View" and "Screen/Tile set") are stored so I can change them?? I have no problem editing the XML file as long as I know what I'm looking for (and I do make a copy of the current working file before I start tinkering...).
?
Thanks.

Re: Instruction review
Here's the wiki page for multi-line objects. I was trying to find my example that I created, but looking at the history, that was 2011 or 2012 when I was creating the documentation. Hmm, found a clue?from when I was playing with multi-line objects, back on Sept 30, 2016. I spent a bit of time playing with multi-line objects when writing the wiki page, and then when playing with demo object I was making in 2016. Re: Digipeating with Kenwood TM D710
The D710 has digipeating built into the radio when the internal TNC is not in kiss mode. It's in the manual, that I don't have handy to tell you the setting to set for it to digipeater stand alone. Several YouTube videos on how to do it too.? But, if you want APRSIS-32 to do the digipeating, you have to have a KISS port set up in APRSIS-32... that port can be something like a Digirig with a soundcard modem of your choice or? by using the 710 internal TNC in KISS mode.? Once a good KISS mode port is there, then you have to have the digipeat?settings in the aprsis32.xml -AND- APRSIS-32 in DEV mode ( an .xml setting separate from the digipeat?settings ). Re: Digipeating with Kenwood TM D710
That is a "third" method of connecting the D710 to a computer for packet: 1. D710 internal TNC in Packet12 mode ??? Old TNC3 style packet interface at 1200 baud - TNC controls TX 2. D710 internal TNC in KISS mode ??? KISS mode packet interface at 1200 baud where PC controls TX 3. DigiRig / Sound card interface ??? PC controls everything through virtual TNC software (UUZ7HO, DireWolf, ...) More info at: Robert Giuliano

Re: Instruction review
Thank you all.? I will repost when it is finalized.
?
I didn't clarify, but this is not specific to APRS-IS32; many of the users I am trying to reach would be using phone apps.? I just felt there was a good knowledge base here. In fact, I still use UI-View32 at home & mobile, primarily.
?
I do use objects pretty regularly.? In our Blizzard event, I posted several objects for stations reporting snow totals who were not on APRS to create a bigger picture.? I also use Overlays for public service events on my own map. Brian, KC0BS, a regional APRS guru wrote a scripted spreadsheet where it is easy to enter position data for overlay objects which then creates the correct overlay file.
?
I've never drawn areas yet - will have to look into that.
?
Also haven't done bulletins; I'm mostly interested in communicating among our ARES group using APRS.
?
Thanks for your comments.

Re: Digipeating with Kenwood TM D710
Are you trying to get the D710 to DIGIpeat, or are you trying to get APRSIS32 to DIGIpeat using the D710 as an RF port? The difference is in which device is reading, decoding, and retransmitting the received data. A) When using APRSIS32's DIGI function, the D710 needs to be in KISS mode.?? ??? KISS mode allows the attached computer to handle the message. ??? ONLY KISS packets are passed to APRSIS32 and acted on, so the radio must be in KISS mode for this option. ??? This requires the APRSIS32.XML to be modified ??? When the Radio is Pkt mode, the internal TNC handles all functions.? It may pass some information to a computer, ??????? but the communication is radio to computer only.? The internal D710 TNC is really in control. ??????? I do not believe any APRSIS32 generated messages go out over RF in this mode. ?? All settings are done within the D710, so reading the D710 manual should provide the needed information ?? From your post, the radio is in Pkt mode. Robert Giuliano

Re: Instruction review
开云体育You could put objects up and using 32 objects can also be areas. So say you have a large part of the area under evac or do not enter, you can make the object on the screen and path it out then convert it to a multi line object which will show
on clients and can be marked as do not enter ect.?
Single point objects can also be useful. Shelters points. Gas stations still with power etc.?

Subject: [APRSISCE] Instruction review
Good afternoon. You may have seen the posts from Glen, KB0RPJ. Our ARES group was exercising APRS group messaging during our Blizzard Warning.? I am working on an instructional document for APRS including:
Are there features beyond these 3 to include?
?
I am not being exhaustive (such as instructions for send/receiving WINLINK via APRS). Just trying to get operators to expand their APRS functionality & use.
?
I would be interested in reviews of the attachment for accuracy & clarity.?

Thank you.

Re: Instruction review
consider use of bulletins Also, not just about messaging, but objects of interest.?
Check on the QRU Server functionality for such objects, it makes them available, but not always transmitting unless requested. ---- 73s Adam Mahnke KC2ANT

Re: Objects
I'm not aware of a way to be able to transmit objects without also having your main station beacon as well. Might I suggest a laptop symbol, and an appropriate location, with ambiguity of course, for your instance of APRSISCE with a beacon interval of say, 60 minutes?? Then send your repeater object every 10-15.? Is there an iGate in the area that will be putting this repeater object out on RF? The IS Stream is great, but it'd be nice to see this repeater object on my D710 if I were to be driving through the area. ---- 73s Adam Mahnke KC2ANT

Objects
Is there a way to just beacon objects & not your callsign??
?
I am currently just using the app on my pc. No radio hooked up. I mainly wanted to beacon an object to the maps. The repeater here & some information in the beacon txt.?
?
But when I beacon the object 145.330- my callsign is next to it. So it makes it harder to see unless you zoom way in. For now ive just separated some distance from the object & my callsign. But I was curious if there was a way to just omit the callsign. Especially since I'm not doing direct RF.?
?
Or is what I'm doing about the only thing to do? |

Re: dev version server
Sorry guys, it is back up for good now.? The APRSF?(APRS foundation) would like to adopt the server, and I will get to it, but right now, I have a long priority list that I am working down until I will come to locating?the server (I don't know exactly which?of the 7 running computers and 16+ VMs are running the server). Outage 1 was a PFsense router whos SSD died, so I changed it, rebuilt PFsense, and reinstalled. Outage 2 was switching off of unreliable Spectrum. Outage 3, this outage was us switching to Verizon Internet and phones, which is highly reliable. We should be stable for the moment now. Once open source, we will of course add resiliancy?in the sourcecode.? For my part, I do see that if our Android device doesn't have coverage to get OSM tiles, APRS IS MO freezes on start, and my Dad acknowledged the issue, but as you are well aware, this is a free, no money passion project, and we all have our personal priorities, so that hiccup remains. Once published on github, it will be up to this community to see if several can step forward to maintain the software.? There is also the option of pooling funds to hire a programmer, however that is not likely given the present day hourly rate of software developers. We are hams and we love our gear, our software, our bands, and our hobby!? We go forward! Paul P.S. I have a crank up, tilt-over tower with rotator and HF beam free for the asking.? I can even help with delivery for gas money around Orlando to Palm Bay, FL and around. Poor pics: On Mon, Jan 6, 2025 at 5:13?AM Greg Depew via <goatherder_4891=[email protected]> wrote:

I see in message (/g/APRSISCE/message/37609)?a reference to “check for server” in a log file, where the user wasn’t able to check for a new version. The server in questions was?. The??service is a way to get a permanent hostname for a dynamic IP address like you’d have for home internet.
At this moment,??resolves to?68.205.53.159, which is the IP someone reported as unreachable.?
Based on this, I think there’s a computer inside Lynn’s home that is turned off, perhaps his development machine. Or perhaps the service in the house is powered off.

Hmm, yes, could be.? It shouldnt be, but can please someone tell me what server I should be looking for to resurect it?
Nothing is turned off, but perhaps an IP changed or something.
The problem is idk where the server is or what it looks like.

I did notice the other day that a click on About takes a while for the screen to come up and now doesn't say dev version verified. Not sure if a server was shut down somewhere or not.?
