Re: APRS iGate stopped working!
Wooo Hooo!? It's now seemingly working as it has been.? I had my receive amp on the Tiny Traker 4 at 47.? Sure I hadn't changed anything but it wasn't receiving what it should have been so I turned it up more.? Same results.? I re-read the manual and it said signals should monitor at between 50 and 80 I think it was.? So I tweaked it to about 65 and now it works.? I think it was too high and the signals were distorting resulting in partial and sparadic captures that you documented so kindly.? Because of my station disorganization I would have sworn it was cable or connection.? Glad this is what it was.? Was starting to think maybe the radio was fried.? Thanks again so much for your time.? Hope someone else that stumbles upon this thread will also get some help out of it.? 73!? I attached a screen print to show it is now working and my mobile is being iGated through my base station at home.? I will assume the times are either correct or have no bearing on the correct processing of the packets into APRS.FI and such.

Re: APRSIS32 Time?

开云体育The Time in the upper left corner is actually the Transmit Pressure.?? You can read about it at:The thin colored bars at the bottom of that pane are also documented that that wiki page. And yes, the trace logs are UTC time, hence the T separator although technically I should also have a Z or Z+00:00 but that seemed a bit verbose.? ()?? The "TOO LONG" indicates that additional data was received from the TCP/IP stack beyond the # logresp packet, which is likely normal depending on the speed of your PC and the Internet connection.? It's part of the wonders of CR/LF delimited packets being parsed from a TCP/IP streaming socket. In fact, this is a frequent newb TCP/IP programming misteak (sic)
where they "assume" (with all the connotations of that word) that
a single read will only and always get a single packet (line of
text, in the case of the APRS-IS) from a socket.?? In local
testing with fast loopback or Ethernet connections, it seems to
work, the read always returns just the data that was written in a
single write.? But when deployed to the field with the vagaries of
actual Internet connections and traffic routing, a single read may
have a partial packet, a full packet (which is all they expected),
a full packet plus part of the next packet, or even multiple
packets possibly ending with a partial packet. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE

开云体育Ok, I just double-checked the source and the timestamp in the ?APRSS response is actually the timestamp that the port entered the current state.?? I now remember doing this so that you can see if your RF or -IS port is going through state transitions.?? So the following lines
mean that those ports became "OK" at that (localtime) timestamp.?? My apologies for crying wolf when there was no need. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE for Windows Mobile and Win32 On 4/30/2024 10:46 AM, Lynn Deffenbaugh

Radio volume is for Rx.? The TT4 pot is for TX. The RXAMP and Volume Control do the same thing - but it is ALWAYS better to find a fixed output from the radio.? Many radios (well dual bands anyway) have a Data Jack with fixed audio.? Some radios have fixed audio on the mic jack.? Unfortunately, it should slike yours has neither. Jon, I suggest finding a volume control setting that is easy to get close, and typically low output is better.? On my Yaesu 2m with no data jack or mic audio, I set the volume to about 90 degrees (or just less than 1/4 volume), then adjusted RXAMP according to the instructions.? That worked well for me. Being a little off on the lower setting (1/4 volume) seems to be a bit more forgiving. Robert Giuliano

Re: APRS iGate stopped working!

开云体育Those look correct.?? Based on the log captures and aprs.fi's raw packet view, it definitely appears that you are having intermittent RF reception (or at least, getting the packets into APRSIS32) and either your instance is not running 24x7 or it is also having APRS-IS connectivity issues.?? The first bit comes from the RF packet capture logs as well as the >IGATE packets from aprs.fi's raw view.?? The last part is inferred by the lack of even beacon packets in aprs.fi's raw packet views for AB9NN-48. For instance, on the 2nd bit, the gap in beacon timestamps at

开云体育I've attached my APRS monitor logs for your station from both RF reports and -IS gated packet captures for the 20s of April.?? Your AB9NN-48 IS IGating some packets, but on the RF side, it is very intermittent as to when it is copying packets and when it is not sending anything via UDP to my backend logger.? Are you sure everything about your station is stable?? Or do you not run it 24x7? According to
your station last beaconed 12 hours ago.?? And eye-balling the
<IGATE reports, it appears that there are extended periods
where your DIR_CNT and RF_CNT are both zero indicating that
APRSIS32 is not receiving anything from the RF port.?? No packets
= No IGate, obviously.?? And there are also time ranges where an
<IGATE packet wasn't even generated.?? I'd have to look at the
source to remind myself what that might mean, but it may mean that
all of the values are zero. If you double-click the upper left corner box, you should get a "Port Status" window that will show you the packet rates per hour for the most recent (left) 8 hours.?? If your RF port isn't showing any traffic, then by definition, APRSIS32 won't be gating because nothing was received to forward on to the APRS-IS. You'll see a BIG difference between the RF logged packets and the
ones that show your station as gating the first copy of the packet
to the APRS-IS.? I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to
track down why other directly-received RF packets are not in the
-IS log.?? Likely some other station was faster and gating the
packet.? Maybe a new IGate is up and running in your area? Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE
