BILL WILSON’S TENACITY

The good April news for Bill Wilson was that the Big Book was finally published on the 10^th of that month (1939); surely big money would be coming his way! The bad news on April 26^th, (That’s today!) he and Lois were forced to vacate their beautiful home at 182 Clinton Street in Brooklyn Heights—Lois’ family had lived there for fifty years. Lois claimed they moved from place to place fifty-four times the following two years.?

?????During this period, Bill helped raise $500 ($7,247 today) to mail out 20,000 post cards to physicians announcing an upcoming Gabriel Heatter radio program? where Morgan Ryan (former advertising man, asylum patient, and friend of Gabriel Heatter)? was to present a pitch for the new Big Book—they received only 12 replies.?

????But Bill, always the optimist—at least between his depressions—continued full speed?? ahead. Aren’t we lucky that Bill Wilson was what he was!? Some AAs point out that Bill had character defects. WHO CARES!?
