Stabilizers
2
Hello Don: With them under the frame that is different. Our 2000 only came with rear jacks and I know they are only bolted through the floor. I think they get most of their rigidity from the wall panels. I've added car scissor jacks to the front mounted on some channel I had. Still just bolted to the floor intended as stabilizers. Aliner really should provide a proper way to change the tires. We had a blow out and I realized with the frame on the ground I couldn't use the truck's bottle jack. So with the shovel we carry I dug a hole under the frame to get the wheel off. We now also carry a loose scissor jack. To reduce the cranking of jacks we also carry bed cones, they are rated at 400lbs so should be OK for stabilizers. I paint all them pads and supports white and red so we don't leave behind when we pack up. Carl.

Towing

We pull a 2022 LXE (less 1 ton dry weight) with a 2020 Honda Ridgeline. When the camper is attached access to the truck bed is restricted. We are considering an 8 inch hitch extender. Has anybody tried this? Any concerns we should be mindful of? Thank you Joel Batha Madison, Wisconsin

Trimmed Tongue Jack
4
Hi Gang: We had our hitch and tongue jack catch on curb dips. After I straightened the jack, I trimmed the bottom off and also added a spacer to lift the jack an inch higher. It helps. Painted the tongue Yellow so I could see it in the dark. Carl. On 11/21/2023 10:15 AM, Steve T wrote: That brings up one other issue too. When towing over a driveway dip, an extended hitch will come closer to the ground and may hit. If that happens it may damage your tongue jack. You can raise the tongue jack a bit to compensate, but it's best to extend the hitch as little as possible.

Bike rack

I have an Aliner Scout Lite so no propane tanks. Has anyone installed a bike rack on the tongue? I need something low because I can¡¯t lift my bike high. I¡¯m hoping to install a bike rack made for a car roof on my Aliner tongue.

Faucet Cartridge for 2015 ALiner Expedition
13
Whoops! I'm resending this with the correct subject line. I have a 2015 ALiner Expedition with a Dometic sink. I need to replace a cracked faucet cartridge, but I haven't been able to find the correct part. Can any of you help out with the name of the cartridge manufacturer and how I can get the correct part number? Thanks. Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group. Curt Echo brake controller
11
Does anyone use a Curt Echo brake controller, the bluetooth/smartphone one that plugs into the 8 pin connector? What are your thoughts on it? I set ours to max on the braking force and sensitivity, and we feel the brakes working, pulling back on the TV (a Volvo XC60) but they will not lock up. Directions with our previous controller, a Curt with a hand held controller and a braking force adjustment wheel, were to set the force so the tires lock up then back down the setting to the point where they just do not lock up. I can never get our Echo to lock up the tires unless the road is wet. Our dealer says our brakes are functioning correctly, although they have not tested the Echo unit itself. thanks, Don Knabb West Chester, PA

Sad looking lineoleum
14
I have a 2013 classic Aliner. The lineoleum has seen better days. I hesitate to lay self adhesive linoleum tiles on top bc of temp changes and the floor, of course, will shake as I tool around PA. So, I'm considering cutting an indoor-outdoor rug to fit. Any other suggestions for sprucing up the floor that I haven't considered? Thanks, Kelly

Door sill removal
6
I would like to remove the aluminum sill and see what is holding it up at the edge and reinstall. Got a 2005 Sport weekender. The outside edge is tipped up a bit, tried to pound it down, but futile. I saw two small screws at the inner corners where the lip meets the verticals lips/jamb. Is there anything else holding the rest or is is just caulked in place? Think I heard of someone here modifying the door sill for rubbing using PEM studs (flush head fasteners) to squeeze it tighter to the floor, but not sure there is enough give for that. Also, I have the shorter camper, 9 foot box, and don't think I am getting much frame deformation. Doesn't matter if I jump on the bumper or jack the stabilizers(only have rear), the door drags on the sill, bad in the middle and is wearing to a sharp edge. So, I am looking to remove it and see what is getting in the way. Thanks all, Charlie

Don't cut or grind steel near your camper. A lesson learned.
3
lesson learned. I washed the Aliner yesterday in preparation for waxing. When I was done I did a test area on the rear dormer roof and it came out nice, but the surface was a bit gritty. I rubbed my hand over a larger area and it was all rough. I figured it was airborne crap possibly from commercial aircraft that fly overhead approaching our airport. I decided to try a clay bar treatment and it smoothed it right out. A few specs remained. They were a bit reddish looking. Then it hit me. Sparks from cutting and grinding steel in the vicinity were landing on the roof! And of course, they are hot when they hit. A bit more work and all is well. That won't happen again. -- Don DeRyke Sunrise, Florida 2009 Classic, 2020 Ford Escape, 2.0 liter EcoBoost, AWD. Previous TV 2015 Ford Escape 1.6 ltr EcoBoost engine.

Outside Front Storage Compartment
2
Dear Group : My sister's-in-law 2006 A-liner Expedition has a completely rotted out hole in the floor of the outside front storage compartment and the rot might be getting close to the refrigerator . The rubber seals around the edges have always leaked from day one . A couple of days ago , I talked to A-liner factory in Pennsylvania and Kevin told me to use waterproof plywood for the repair . Any additional suggestions ? M.F. Perry

No electricity when plugged into shore power
8
I've learned so much from the folks on this list over the years, but this is my first time with a question for y'all: I'm having a problem with my 2012 Aliner Classic's electrical system. I just came back from a trip where we had shore power at each place we stayed. Each time plugging in to shore power, the AC outlets in the trailer had power right away, but the lights and appliances that work on AC or DC took time to come on. At each new site, it took progressively longer for the AC to kick in. Now that I am home and plugged in to my house, I get no power for the lights and appliances through the AC/DC system. I'm assuming that this is a problem with the trailer battery getting drawn down and not holding a charge. However, the battery is not that old and all of the lights and appliances are off when we are towing. So I don't know what is drawing down the battery. I will try to check the health of the battery, but I would like to understand what is causing this. I should add that the trailer is stored in a car port plugged into shore power most of the year. I take the battery out for the coldest months when it might freeze. If anyone has any insights and suggestions, I would appreciate your advice. Thanks, Terry

Rotten floor wood in front of door and water pools over vinyl flooring there leak
6
Apparently a lot of Aliners develop a rotten spot right in front of the door, as ours did. 2014 Ranger 12. Because we discovered the soft spot right before a camping trip, we had a custom metal plate made to bolt onto the frame. We will never fall through the floor upon entry now, but the rot is probably continuing. We will probably patch the floor and cabinets after we find and fix the leak. My question is: WHERE IS THE WATER COMING FROM TO ROT THE FLOOR HERE? Water also pools in front of the door between the cabinetry on both sides. The cabinet on the left side (under the air conditioner) is swelling and stays damp. (Why on earth did Aliner chose to use wood surrounded on both sides by cardboard for their supports???) I have added caulk around the air conditioner and an external sill plate on the door. *If anyone can tell me how to stop this leak, I would sure appreciate it!!!* Leaks when set up (always except when travelling).

Plastic Part from Aliner roof
8
We were lowering the roof of our 2005 Aliner DL when a piece of bent plastic popped out and fell on the ground a few feet away. Seemed to come from the roof (door-side) as we lowered it but we did not see exactly where it came from. Raising and lowering the roof does not seem as smooth as it was before this happened. Does anyone have experience with this or know where the part came from? Any suggestions on how to fix it? Please see attached photos. Thanks!

My Gas Spring Adventure
24
I have been tired of the amount of work to raise my roof on my 2018 Expedition with hard Dormers and 17 lb of solar panels that I added to the rear Dormer. The extra panel weight really doesn't affect the amount of force that I have to exert to push the rear roof up that I can notice. Recent experiments have led me to believe that my rear roof with the front roof resting on it in the halfway up position only exerts 30 lb of force to the floor. I have read Brian and Dave's articles and I am following Dave's method for determining placement. I purchased two inexpensive, 20" gas Springs from Amazon as it would be a cheap experiment to help determine my needs. My question is : the 20-in gas spring puts the mounted position on the roof 13 in from the rear roof piano hinge. If I go to the same size gas spring that Dave used from McMaster Carr, it moves the roof mounting point to be 19 in from the rear roof piano hinge. If I remember my high school physics well enough, being further away from the pivot Point increases my mechanical advantage. I feel I am correct, but want to make sure with those who have done it. (Y'all have the hi-falutin knowledge that I aspire to.) The picture is a mocked up version of the 20" being held in place with duct tape. The 22.36 long one (Dave) moves the roof mounting point 6 in forward. Thanks in advance.

is there a good Instructional on how to replace springs with gas struts for lifting roof?
20
I've got a 2007 Aliner Columbia Expedition. The internal springs haven't failed yet, not punched through the front or rear panels, but i'd rather not encounter this and it seems like its probably just a matter of time. I store the ailiner popped up but i think in the next year I'd like to get gas struts installed. Are there any good DIY instructionals on how to do this? on FB it was recommended to use 80lb 30 inch struts for my particular year/model. I saw this video which seems pretty good for the installation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMGIXGkAQIQ but it doesn't cover the spring removal. Thanks!

Additional Step

Dear A-frame Owners : My sister-in-law has a 2005 A-liner Expedition ; up until recently , she has been searching for an additional step to supplement the factory installed one . Her solution finally resolved itself when she purchased what is called a "Yoga Exercise Step" ; it is light weight and cost was less than $40 at Walmart ; she is very happy with it . M.F. Perry
