Re: Life in London
Ben blinked in surprise when Rebecca said he was the first person to hold their mother accountable for her role. Kol straightened from his slouched pose in the chair, his gaze becoming a bit more intent as his interest shifted from bored and mild to a bit more intrigued.
?
?
"But...I can't see how anyone wouldn't see her accountable. Especially herself as from what I'm hearing it doesn't seem that she took any responsibility in the matter.
?
?
Of course part of him knew that he should be screaming like a school girl?and running for the door! Of course he knew to focus on the logical bits of this fantastical and many would say horrifying situation was bloody mad. Perhaps he was having a shock reaction, yet here he was calmly enough considering the situation of these 2 and the story they or rather Rebecca had shared.
?
?
Hell if they were going to kill or snack on him they would've by now unless they, for some reason, enjoyed sharing their life story first with their dinner, though he couldn't see the point in such. That and neither looked hungry, he found himself ridiculously thinking. At that perhaps he and his reaction was alarming him more than they were.
?
?
"So why are you telling me all this," he finally asked, part of him whooping with joy that he finally asked a question that?perhaps mattered to his well being.
?
?
Kol leaned forward in his chair, eyes intent on his sister.
?
"You know, that's another excellent question. I was just wondering the same thing myself!"

Re: Late Night Lab Work (Victor/Elizabeth)
Victor nodded and smiled, yes I think you¡¯ll find that you will process things and events much faster, the longer you are alive. ?Chuckled when she said she should have known he would have a cure for her skin issue, it is a rather common thing, he told her, I tried to think of everything I would need before I brought you back to life. ?He nodded with understanding when she mentioned the marriage bed, there is plenty of time for that though, no rush; of course, he was eager to know her intimately, but he would not rush things, she had just returned literally from the dead, and he realized this would take time, he would just have to be patient. ?His expression grew somewhat sad, and he nodded when she asked if they were alone in the world, yes I am afraid so, as far as I know, all of my family is dead, including my younger brother. ?He ? smiled then, glad she was depending on him to help her up; you take as long as you need with the bath, and afterword, yes, we shall have dinner, I am rather hungry myself. ?Come, I shall introduce you to the servants, and have one of them draw a bath for you; he rang for a servant, then stated, this is Elizabeth, my wife, and the new mistress and Lady of the household. She would much like a bath at present, draw it exactly the way she tells you, not 1¡ã colder, or warmer then she says; she has, after all, been absent from us for a long time. Now, she has returned, and is to be welcomed as royalty in this home. ?Turning to Elizabeth, he murmured, all right, you go with Miss Heidi, she will show you to the bathing facilities, and will also show you where the towels and soap will be. You will catch on very quickly I¡¯m sure. With that, he kissed her, a soft, quick kiss on her lips. I will see you after your bath, dear, he told her. Enjoy.
God loves you. |

? ? ?"I'm eager for tomorrow to come also. So much to see and learn.??

My family always thought I had a strong spirit but I? don't ever think any of us would have thought it would go this far.? My? family is mostly dead now I assume.? Do you have any family since I've? been gone.? I don't mean a wife but just members of your family or are? we alone in this world," she inquired. ???? She let out a sigh of relief when Victor reassured her they'd not? been fully intimate yet.? It left her feeling less awkward about the? entire situation.? In a way she was eager for the marriage bed perhaps? she'd get to know more about Victor that way.? You could tell a lot by? how a person made love. Re: No Place Like London (Oliver/Nadia/Mircea)
Oliver gave a short laugh at talk of avoiding hunters.
?
"I void most, hunters, vampires, humans in general when not having sustenance. And I was turned in the 1300s, but I was much the same then if not worse."
?
?
He didn't bother saying that he was only out tonight out of concern for a missing friend. He rarely spoke, rarely engaged. Perhaps because after losing everyone in his life and being cruelly saved by a vampiric plague doctor he had surrounded himself with bitter walls. Perhaps the irony of the world was simply something he wanted no part of. At? times he didn't even know himself and honestly didn't care either.
?
?
When his elder sister spoke of it being rude to carry on a conversation about someone when they were present, Mercia merely gave her a wide toothy grin. //You started it,// he pointed out quite maturely.? Of course she had only begun the mental exchange, obviously intending it to be brief, and it had not been about the gaunt man seated with them, but Mercia could easily overlook such trifling details when convenient for him.
?
?
When Nadia spoke of solving the little mystery tomorrow, Oliver merely nodded.
?
Mercia wondered if he should be interested, then shrugged it off. If it was worth his interest his sister would bring it to his attention. Otherwise whatever social games these 2 were playing at with whoever, he didn't care. He rose and nodded to Oliver.
?
"Until we meet again, good man,"
?
Oliver's mouth gave a slight ironic twist that may be considered a smile as he wordlessly nodded again.
?
OOC, Feel free to get them out and about.

Re: No Place Like London (Oliver/Nadia/Mircea)
Nadia carefully regarded him with one eyebrow briefly raised at his response to news of the hunters. She supposed it was a bit of relief to learn he wasn't completely in the dark about their presence. ¡°It is my understanding that this Abraham fellow has lived here for quite some time while Rayna has only recently arrived.¡± There were stories though just how much truth there were to them was another matter altogether.?
?
¡°It is always a wise move to avoid hunters. So many of the newly turned are far too arrogant or perhaps foolish enough to rush headlong into a confrontation with one and quickly discover the error of their ways.¡± While she had dealt with their kind a number of times through the centuries and with obvious success she didn't make a practice of seeking them out as it tended to draw the wrong sort of attention.
?
¡°Complex?¡± She inquired with obvious interest. It was strange to consider but she had to wonder whether this meant the infamous hunter was a bit more open minded than others she¡¯d come across. There was a temptation to ask more questions though it was abandoned when they were joined by her brother.
?
Shooting a look toward her brother at his mental response. //I would think after so many centuries you knew me better than that.// It might be considered rude to carry on a secret conversation with another present especially when that person happened to be the subject of it.?
?
//But if you insist on knowing he¡¯s merely someone I happened to strike up a conversation with out of boredom. He's alright as company goes.//
?
She was quiet during the introductions mostly due to the fact her attention was far more focused what wasn't being said. There was little doubt of the fact her brother was sizing Oliver up though to what end remained to be seen.
?
His request for her company was something she figured was done in part out of concern for their mother. ¡°Yes, of course. I suppose there is a great deal we must catch up on.¡± She cast a glance toward Oliver. ¡°I fear I must take my leave though perhaps we can solve that little mystery tomorrow?¡± No doubt she would be asked about that as well once she and Mircea departed.? |

Re: Home At Last (Rena/Henry/Pool/etc)
Rena laughed when Henry asked if they were more open minded in the country.
?
"I doubt it. Their probably more old fashioned or back woods there but to be honest I'd not know. I think it's too crowded where I live to be country. Just it's cluttered in the city and a little less so on the outskirts is all. Our home is old but expensive. Land where we are is always expensive as it's a desired part of California. Supply and demand and all that?is the way of real-estate."
?
She grinned. "I had to hear all about that from my father. He used to work in real-estate until he changed fields as it were. He complains about how much worse things have gotten in London."
?
She supposed the truth of Renfield's future?complaint was still likely valid today at least in Henry's eyes with all the over crowding in the city.
?
She gave a slight shiver when he mentioned her description of the suburbs sounding like a mythical past.
?
"Yes or a future," she murmured in spite of herself.
?
?
When he spoke of the fascination of living in a home once inhabited by an alchemist or author of some fame she nodded.
?
"Yes it would be interesting. This place was only owned by a surgeon before you, though, right?"
?
She was pleased with herself for remembering.
?
"Perhaps he hid something useful under the floor boards," she added with a wink.
?
"I don't know who lived in our house before. Grandfather never said, so either he doesn't know or it wasn't impressive. He does have an excellent memory, though, yes, and very enhanced intelligence. I am fortunate, as a result, to be of his bloodline."
?
To Henry's question of if her grandfather was the studious type or the adventurer she smiled again.
?
"The studious type mostly. He has had adventures but most of them were unwanted and forced upon him. Those he had after meeting my grandmother were more wanted but to be honest I think he'd have enjoyed them all far more were he not wounded by those unwanted ones from his past. Likely the same goes for Grandma herself," she said, a sad expression suddenly taking over her countenance. ?
IN fact not until speaking these words to Henry did she realize how true they were. There was knowing something, she supposed and really understanding it and she hadn't until speaking it aloud to him now. Both her grandparents would likely enjoy their dream realm work far more had both not been scarred from a past and now at times restrained or whatever it was.
?
?
When Henry mentioned Carew and even alled him a friend, Rena started visibly. She was unable to help it.
?
"That old guy? He's supposed to be some white winged paragon of virtue, isn't he?"
?
And Jekyll hadn't exactly remembered why he had been prompted to kill him so brutally way back then, but he'd certainly never claimed to have ever been friends with the man. What was happening, and was it getting stranger than time travel? As if that wasn't bad enough. She couldn't handle more! Finding herself in some need of reassurance, odd as it may be, Rena reached out and took Henry's hand. It afforded her some measure of comfort having the physical contact with him. he was warm and strong and large and sturdy and hers. Most important of all hers and that electric and necessary connection they always had was there even when they simply held hands.
?
?
?
Rena blinked when Henry spoke of an elder Utterson.
?
"No I only knew of the one. The one who you attended university with along with Lanion. And the 3 of you stayed single, but I suppose that's wrong. I...I suppose it might not matter," she hoped.
?
"So their wives are different. I assume that means not as well matched as you and I are in commonalties? What are they like then?"
?
She moved closer, her hand still in his and climbed onto his lap, snuggling against his chest and hoping that would help to settle her nerves. This frozen feeling that gripped her wasn't going to help her to think or to deal with things. The more wrong things got the more frozen and stiff she felt and that was no good.

Re: Home At Last (Rena/Henry/Pool/etc)
Henry Hyde considered for a few moments Rena's explanation and solemnly nodded. "Yes, in and out, in principle sounds like some part of philosophy. I even have that vague memory of one of the ancient philosopher of historians describing some mythological couple of lovers in that fashion. With them being dwellers of the city but also sneaking out of it. It does sound so peculiarly mythological, the situation you are describing, as if it pertains to the distant past.
?
Old houses are quaint. I have often wondered what it would be like, to live where a famous writer once dweller, or better yet, a mysterious alchemist. Either prospect would have been delightful, of course advertising the past owner of this kind could reduce the cost of the dwelling, so one never hears about such charming places in a London society. Are they more open minded in the country then? I do find it feasible, although at times I wonder how much sway does an angry priest hold over his parishioners. How much freedom could they really have on the outskirts, and if they are isolated enough to be sufficiently far from any church, would that kind of a place not be a complete wilderness. Ah, so many possibilities we have in this day and age, yet our freedom of motion is so woefully restrained, to the point of almost unbearable, though we do intend to bear it, naturally," Henry hastily reassured, though which one of the two of them, he was not fully certain.
?
"Oh, well that stands to reason, that your grandfather is old. Aren't all grandfathers old? I have not seen one yet, the more I think about it, who was not very advanced in years. It is not as surprising that your grandfather is old, as the fact that his deeds from a hundred years ago are still remembered. Me, I sometimes forget what Poole induced me to eat last night. He, your grandsire that is, must have a prodigious memory. The things he could tell me. What kind is he, the studious type, the adventurer? I had no fascination with my own family, they were unremarkable, one may say dull, but older gentlemen who have been through things, those I respect. In fact, I have the honor of having the friendship of one such, Mr Danvers Carew, doesn't seem like much at first sight, but he has seen some?adventures, rumors say," Henry frowned suddenly, trying to remember the precise nature of such rumors and realizing he could not come up with any.
?
"The dead smell a little unusual, until you get used to them. It is an acquired skill, like all else. First you find yourself gagging, then you find yourself breathing with a difficulty, but breathing still. Eventually you start noticing it without being bothered greatly, until you barely notice it at all. They say London is not the most pleasant of cities where foul odors are concerned, that could explain somewhat how easy it is to get used to the stench of death,, especially when there is a good reason to develop resistance," Henry shrugged.
?
"Single? Oh, I might understand what caused such an impression. Their wives don't inhibit them greatly you see, allowing us to socialize as if we were all indeed single. If that was what you read in the newspapers, that could explain what you thought. Lanyon's wife is unusual, and Utterson's as well. Makes sense for such regular gentlemen to acquire somebody a little different, so that they would not be too dull in their married life, I suppose. Utterson elder happens to be a widower of course, but I take?it you meant Gabriel after all, for?it is to him that my comment refers," doctor Hyde clarified.
?
"I am not precisely sure if Utterson senior, can be considered my friend or not. We had legal?matters to work on together, and we are not that far removed in age, but he does not seek my company as much nowadays, when he has retired from the firm.?I don't take it personally of course, the man does not get out much as he was wont to do. A friend, not a friend, perhaps he could be a casual acquaintance," Henry magnanimously allowed, as if the elder Utterson was?craving such acceptance.
?
"And yes, of course I will introduce you my dear, it is a natural thing to be sure, wives of friends, becoming friends, or?civil enemies at the very least," Henry promised, only half joking in regards to the later statement. ? |
Re: The Birth Of Katherine Pierce
"Past life? There is no past life."
?
?
Mina Murray?knew the bible well and there was this life and heaven or hell afterward. And now for her just this life. She may not mind, may even bee pleased at such an unexpected and marvelous result to her former unhappy situation but...
?
?
?
"It's this condition doing this to me. Making me feel so strange and upset...Perhaps at him because he killed me," she struggled to reason through the tears that would not stop no matter how hard she rubbed at her eyes.
?
?
?
?
"I did nothing to that man and he killed me."
?
?
?
?
Though the piercing way she'd felt him looking at her as her life blood drained out caused her to sob once more.
?
?
?
?
"He'll be sorry for this," she said half to herself.
?
?
?
"How could I marry? I could never allow myself to love someone who shall only age and die, leaving me alone to grieve," Mina said.
?
?
?
"Besides, that isn't what I truly wanted, is it? That's why...Why I was out in the first place, far too late at night, to be killed by a mad man."
?
?
?
Her upset was turning gradually to indignation. She sat up slowly, rubbing at her face again and slowly turning to Katherine.
?
?
?
"His eyes...They were unlike anything I've ever seen," she said, an intensity coming into her voice and expression. It was important to share this information with Katherine in case she could use it to protect herself, Mina knew.
?
?
"And he had fine clothes, but under those he was no gentleman. He had far too much hair and a thick beard," she said with disapproval.
?
?
?
"As if he doesn't notice how unkempt it is. Or perhaps he simply does not mind, but then again what sort of person wouldn't?"
?
She knew her mood had shifted drastically, but it was the least of her concerns right now. She was simply riding this wave of new reality and trying to make the best of it until hopefully things processed and smoothed out and hopefully improved. At present her eyes were dry and steady as she? regarded her new friend though inside she was still struggling with the upset while rationally trying to push it away for there was truly nothing else to be done with it.
?
?
"Thank you, for saving my life if I didn't say so before," she said quietly, dropping her green gaze in brief embarrassment.

Re: The Birth Of Katherine Pierce
Katherine tipped her head as she carefully followed the details provided about what transpired during the space of a few seconds. If she were on speaking terms with Vlad she would ask for his help looking into the matter but between her growing suspicions about her husband's relationship with Teja¡¯ari along with certain other matters it simply wasn't an option at this point.?
?
¡°It could be a matter of a past life or perhaps it's as you suspected.¡± The instances were few and far between but she had met those who claimed awareness of a past life so not something she would dismiss out of hand unless there were proof to back up the newly turned vampire¡¯s suspicions. But if it were indeed about her then why had the man spoken her name before disappearing as he had? It was certainly perplexing.
?
She knew this to be a lot for anyone to process and harder still for someone faced with the reality of having been turned into a vampire and so not much was read into it when Mina shook her head.?
?
¡°Oh, I don't know¡I wouldn't rule it out.¡± She replied with mildly amused smile easily masking her concerns as she thought it best not to make matters more difficult. ¡°You are still quite capable of living a full life¡of marrying and starting family should that be what you decide. You just have to be careful who you trust with your secret as there are those who will harm you simply because of what you are.¡± |
Re: Life in London
¡°I suppose it would have been harder had we known our sister but sadly most of us never had the opportunity to know her.¡± Rebekah inclined her head in thought as she once more contemplated finding her brother's coffin in order to remove the dagger herself and she would so if not for the absolute certainty she would be rewarded for her efforts with a dagger through her own heart.
?
After all this time it was incredibly strange to hear someone outside her family place the blame where it belonged¡with their mother for casting the bloody spell in the first place. ¡°I do believe you're the first person who has ever held our mother accountable for her role.¡± There was a small pause. ¡°For the most part what people take away from our story is how we are the monsters.¡±
?
She cast a quick glance toward her brother when he took a more active role in the conversation when it seemed as if Ben were putting a few of the pieces together on his own. ¡°In the beginning it was difficult to control as we were clueless as to what was happening to us.¡± It was best not to be careless when revealing such things. ¡°But after some time has passed we sorted it out.¡± |

Re: Revelations (Klaus/Amara/Valerie/Van Helsing)
Valerie was not expecting there to be understanding when she looked to Klaus or maybe it was more a matter of assuming the expression on her face would have gone unnoticed as things with her so often did. Despite her inner musings she offered an appreciative smile in response.
?
¡°She may require a bit of time to discover those differences as she's barely had the opportunity to live as immortal despite her nearly two thousand years on this earth.¡± Her words came as what some might call ¡®running interference¡¯ as she sought to remove some of the pressure having noticed the first signs of panic rising within the former handmaiden.?
?
?
?
?
¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª
?
?
?
?
¡°Silas once told me that the immortality spell used to create the potion would protect against us from death whether natural or magical.¡± Amara chose to focus on that particular memory as it had been a far happier one than the night their plans for spending eternity together were discovered by Qetsiyah.
?
Her expression saddened as she continued with what little explanation could be offered at this point. ¡°True immortality¡¡± She looked down while recalling the conversation had so long ago. The picture he had painted of their future together was rather seductive in itself not at all what the reality had been.
?
There was the slightest flicker of hope as she briefly considered inquiring about his fate but ultimately abandoned the thought of doing so in favor of clinging to the possibility of one day be reuniting with her ¡®true love¡¯. These thoughts also inspired a deep sense of anger at the way things had gone¡and at Silas.
?
¡°As I come to understand more about myself¡I will share this with you.¡± Her promise was all she could give until all that came with her immortality began to reveal itself, a possibility she found frightening.?
?
As the conversation shifted to the idea of her being placed into a trance she shifted uncomfortably looking from one face to the next then at her surroundings as if searching for something¡perhaps a place to hide. So much so that she hadn't heard much of what followed.
?
?
?
?
¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª
?
?
?
?
Valerie grew a bit concerned at seeing the reaction Amara had to the mention of hypnotism being used to unlock those memories. It was difficult to tell whether the borderline panic had more to do with someone being given that kind of access or the memories themselves. There definitely seemed to be something she wished to avoid.
?
Her gaze followed the retreating figure of the good doctor as she considered the possibility then quickly turned her attention back to the others once she was satisfied their host was out of earshot. ¡°I am not sure if allowing him to poke around inside the mind of someone in her position would be wise.¡± She paused briefly as her eyes moved to the woman she spoke of.?
?
¡°She may have abilities that neither you nor I possess and if he were so inclined the situation could be taken advantage of¡he could use hypnotism to sway her to his cause.¡± These concerns were no doubt a bit paranoid in nature but she knew there was nothing to stop him from making her see them as her enemy.
?
?
?
?
¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª
?
?
?
?
Amara took a series of deep breaths as she attempted to calm herself in spite of a renewed sense of fear at what she overheard following his departure. Turning she looked to Klaus while she couldn't be certain she felt there might be a hidden meaning to his words. ¡°His tea?¡± Somewhere in the back of her mind she recalled it being offered.

?
¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª

¡°A bloody werewolf?¡± Valerie for a moment imagine locking Julian up with one as its bite just might bestow a fitting amount of pain for what he¡¯d done. But there were other dangers and even more questions to be considered, ones decidedly more complicated.? |

Re: No Place Like London (Oliver/Nadia/Mircea)
Oliver gave a short laugh, relief flickering in her expression when he mentioned thee hunters.
?
?
?
?
?
"I thought I had become too reclusive if I lived unaware of a danger right here amongst us. But if it's only the hunters I am well guarded against such in my slumber and when I am awake,I remain wise and so out of their sight. They do not bother me and until I get the opportunity I shall not bother them."
?
?
?
?
For of course if he could take down a hunter of their kind, of course he would. Would not any of them do so? He wondered idly if he should share the fact that a vampire had recently crossed Helsing's path, confessed what she was and survived, but he couldn't. Were it anyone but Natari he would have, but the girl was bored and careless and he would not see her at risk for it. He sighed and instead said,"Helsing...I hear is more complex than straight forward. It comes from him being a man of learning I think."
?
?
?
?
He hadn't yet decided what to do with the fact he knew where the man lived either, but perhaps Nadia did as well. He tried not to stiffen at the other's approach. 2 of Dracula's children in one place could make one feel a little edgy, unless of course they were on ones side. He hadn't decided about that, though. Generally Oliver kept to himself and was honest enough with himself to know it was likely better that way for he had nearly forgotten how to interact for more than 5 minutes at a time even with those he liked.
?
?
?
?
As the siblings spoke he found his mind returning to the bar maid. She hadn't remembered his questions. Her mind could not withstand his compulsion, but she had been intelligent enough to wonder about the bruise he had accidentally left on her wrist. So not mentally special but overly intelligent perhaps which could be bothersome. A thinker among mortals could be interesting or dangerous depending. For now, though, she would be useful to get to the other two and those he did want to question.
?
?
?
?
For his part, Mercia took a graceful seat, his expression not changing when his sister mentally referred to their mother. He was concerned, and this would be addressed, of course, as soon as they were alone. Instead of responding to this, however, when he touched her mind it was with light amusement. //Who is the boy friend,// he mocked.
?
?
?
?
His sister had far better taste than this ravaged man who had the look of a former noble fallen ill before falling vampire.
?
?
?
?
Connections were never bad, though, so he gave the man a polite smile, opting to openly notice him at last.
?
?
?
?
?
"So kind of you to keep my sister company, good Sir. I am Mercia Dracul."
?
?
?
?
Oliver merely nodded, politely not overly impressed.
?
?
?
?
?
"Oliver," he returned.
?
?
?
?
"We were merely people watching together."
?
?
Mercia nodded silently, deciding to respect the man for not groveling as many did. Respect rather than anger as though this Oliver didn't grovel he was not disrespectful or brash, obviously indicating that he knew who he was dealing with. Mercia was uncertain of the amount of years that separated them but Oliver was obviously older. Due to their father's blood, Mercia and Nadia were still stronger, and they all knew it. So this one could live for now so long as his behavior continued to be pleasing. He was no toady yet knew his place. The sort Mercia didn't mind having his back in a fight or as?extra eyes and ears.?This decided, Mercia's mind was free to return to more pressing matters, the most being his mother. She was obviously well or Nadia would be more upset, so what was it? Curious he looked to his sister.
?
?
"I've still not decided where I shall be staying while in town, but I don't think it will be at home. I have grown to need my privacy even more. Perhaps it comes from traveling alone save for?servants. At any rate I?still need to seek a place out.? Perhaps you can accompany me so that we may catch up, Sister."
?
?
Then she could?speak freely and he would be caught up on family affairs, for?he was ever, efficient.?I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed. I get along with the voices inside of my head. |

Re: No Place Like London (Oliver/Nadia/Mircea)
¡°There is something to be said for living as a recluse when one doesn't age.¡± Nadia replied with a small shrug while her gaze swept the room then returned to the gentleman seated across from her. It was strange that someone who claimed to have lived on the outskirts of this city for centuries would know nothing of the dangers posed by certain individuals unless, of course, he were fishing to see just how much she knew.?
?
¡°I am here because that is where my family is¡also there are so few who would be foolish enough to risk our wrath.¡± While she rarely gave any outward signs of it she could at times be just as ruthless as her father and brothers. Most made the error of underestimating her.?
?
She watched intently as he left her company to see what could be discovered about the barmaid. There was something¡off about her. The instances were few and far between when she could recall a single instance when the compelled showed any sign at all of remembering anything. Could this woman be of use? Perhaps an offer would be extended when the opportunity arose.
?
Her eyes studied the barmaid for a few seconds longer then looked to Oliver as he returned to their table. ¡°I suppose the odd couple could be a danger though separate from what the gypsies spoke of.¡± As of yet she had no other plans for the following day so couldn't see the harm. ¡°With any luck it we will be able to get some answers if they do.¡±
?
With a fingernail she lightly traced small patterns on the tabletop while considering whether to share what little she knew of the city's dangers. One eyebrow rose at the thought though her attention wandered upon spotting her brother heading their way. ¡°The trouble I speak of goes by the names of Abraham Van Helsing and Rayna Cruz both of which have quite the reputation.¡±
?
She did have to admit to being a tad curious as to what reaction the gentleman might have to the presence of Mircea. Could be interesting as quite a few of their kind feared them on basic principle alone though on occasion they seemed particularly on edge when it came to her brother.
?
¡°Brother dear.¡± Her words a simple greeting as a smile quickly fell into place. It was a relief he had chosen to venture into London as out of all their siblings Mircea was the one she felt more at ease discussing her concerns with. ¡°But of course.¡± Gesturing toward an empty chair with a graceful flick of her wrist temporarily letting his teasing pass without response save for a quick roll of the eyes.
?
She reached out to his mind as her words were only meant for Mircea to hear. ¡®Speaking of our mother¡there is something we must discuss.¡¯ There for a brief she glanced toward Oliver then back again. ¡°I trust all went well during your travels, brother.¡±

Re: Life in London
When Rebecca explained that drinking from animals did not allow them to heal as quickly, Ben nodded in silent understanding of the danger such a weakness could present to someone.
?
?
His expression was sympathetic when she spoke of losing a sister to the plague. "I am sorry. It's a thing that has struck over and over, and no cure for it yet. We can only hope it never returns, but I often wonder as it seems to resurface every few centuries."
?
?
He listened attentively as she spoke of her parents, but it was obvious the mother's reaction got to him the most.
?
"She was upset at what her children turned into, but she did it to you."
?
Ben's tone was incredulous and confused all at once as he slowly blinked at Rebecca.?
?
"Was she completely mad or...did you all...perhaps lose control of the blood lust too much in the beginning," he wondered a bit hesitantly.
?
Kol, who had been watching silently with a gleeful entertained expression on his face smirked and finally chuckled.
?
?
?
"He's got a sharp mind, Sister. And that mind is finally working itself around to wondering if we're dangerous. Well of course he understands that vampires would be dangerous, but he is wondering about that a little more personally now...I mean if our own parents wanted us dead...what ever is the matter with us," he asked, eyes glinting with a bitter light of old memories resurfacing.

Re: Life in London
¡°If I were to guess¡I would say it was more about hating what her children had become as I would imagine those changes were¡unforeseen.¡± Rebekah absently touched the necklace she had worn for centuries while sliding a sidelong glance toward her brother whose overall silence seemed a bit odd.
?
¡°According to our mother he was a decidedly different person before our sister Freya died of the plague.¡± Though she found it impossible to imagine him being anything other than the cruel man they had grown to both fear and despise in equal measure.
?
¡°It is difficult to say whether our father ever felt anything at all for us. I mean, I suppose it could be argued that he walled off his heart after losing Freya.¡± She often wondered what it would have been like to grow up with a sister.
?
¡°One could also survive on the blood of animals though would not be as strong or heal as quickly a thing which could prove a death sentence in some instances.¡± |

Playing Chess (Grey Cardinals part 1)
Fedora sat across from Captain Dance and calmly moved a white chess piece on the board as she frowned at her lover. The gesture was calm, as if there was no angrily roaring vampire being dragged across the floor. The?silver chains being used to restrain him clanked almost musically with the movement. Neither of the players seated at the small square wooden table even looked, both confident in the ability of the witches to handle the vampire that normally could've torn the throats from anyone who even attempted laying hands on him.
?
?
?
"You know I hate playing white,"Fedora grumbled, scowling at her move as Dance made his without even taking time to think.
?
?
?
He smiled kindly at her.
?
?
?
?
"And that, my darling, is why I insist that you do it at least some of the time," he told her dryly.
?
?
?
?
Nearly as one, both turned to face the vampire once he had been placed in the center of the floor.
?
?
?
"Well aren't you a prize,"Fedora drawled.? "An ugly one at that, but still..."
?
?
?
Dance's face drew into? a brief scowl. Why did Fedora need her prizes to be pretty, he wondered peevishly.
?
?
?
Unaware of his expression, Fedora turned back to the table, but this time she disregarded the chess board, instead her gaze moving to the photographs laid out beside it. Dance followed his lover's gaze to the young lady, a finger coming out to touch the girl's cheek, nearly as though she could feel it from the photograph itself.
?
?
?
?
"She will be safe," Dance told her soothingly.? "And once she has had time to think on matters she shall realize as much."
?
?
?
Both regarded Rena silently for a moment before Dance snatched up the 2nd photo and tossed it at the vampire. The image was of Renfield, the small man captured in mid stride on a London street, completely unaware that he had been photoed.
?
?
?
?
"You will seek out this man and take him under your wing," Dance told the vampire.
?
?
"He has seen me and I can't have him continuing to focus on that unfortunate fact. Keep him too busy to do so."
?
?
The vampire glared daggers, obviously quite unaccustomed to taking orders but Dance merely continued calmly, obviously accustom to giving orders and to being obeyed.
?
?
"Set aside your plans for Dracula long enough to do that or I assure you, good sir, you shall not live nearly long enough to complete them."
?
?
?
?
The vampire hissed and spat curses in Greek that Dance ignored save for a small frown while he silently translated.
?
?
?
?
His unsettling?gaze then moved to the witches, giving them a benevolent smile.
?
?
?
"And now another task for you that I quite think you shall enjoy... IT involves the 9. A little math where they are reduced...drastically."
?
?
?
"To 0," Fedora said with a titter.
When the redhead laughed, the expression very rarely touched her hard cold eyes.
?
?
OOC< Sham usually writes Dance, so if they are needed again and such that'll be his. I"ll email you their info off list they're canon.

Re: Home At Last (Rena/Henry/Pool/etc)
Rena brightened when Henry mentioned ancient Roman and Greek geography.
?
"You know,I never thought of it that way, but it is only logical that history repeat itself with architecture as well." she said.
?
"Where I live is referred to as the suburbs. Meaning suburban life. On the outskirts of the city it is believed to be more civilized. Like you're still?IN things while being OUT of them just a little bit, you know?? Mom's lab is in the city and she and Dad only have to drive for like 10 minutes to get there so, not that far," she said with a small shrug.
?
"Grand Dad bought the house over a century ago I think and he likes to be there as it affords him privacy."
?
She hesitated, her expression showing openly that she was considering before speaking. "He doesn't look like everyone else, he is very tall, and people have been unkind in the past. No one in the family believes it would be so now, but Grandfather does not trust society as a whole."
?
?
She realized that she'd mentioned her grandfather being around to buy a house over a century ago and nearly cursed but instead opted to explain.? "I did tell you that we're all different, you included. I refer to the fact my grandfather is so old," she explained.
?
?
?
When Henry spoke of studying the dead Rena gave a shudder, making a face.
?
?
"They must smell horrid! Mom can freeze them, so they're trick to work with as a result, but at least they don't smell like anything but those nasty preservative chemicals that she uses."
?
She knew he would wonder how freezing was possible, and that was good. It would give him more to consider when she explained things later. She hoped he'd notice that she had replied to his statements of fascination with the dead and studying them without batting an eye. She had been calm, as if people spoke of such things daily in her presence, which most of the time was the case.?
?
?
?
?
As he spoke of the custodian, Rena found her attention moving suddenly?to something completely relevant.
?
?
"Lanion is married? I thought you were all single. You him and Utterson."
?
She frowned. "Interesting..."
?
She spoke half to herself. Had that changed? And why? Then again she'd never asked Jekyll if everything written in his book was true. She shrugged.
?
"Nevermind. If the wife knows something I can surely get it out of her with my boundless and usually nonexistent American curiosity," she quipped.
?
?
"I assume you will want your bride to meet your good friends, after all, so we'll have opportunity soon enough."
?
At that, she couldn't help moving closer and kissing him. The idea of being his, no matter the year, was always uplifting to the point of intoxication. She had never felt specifically proud until him, but it certainly wasn't the only new feeling he had introduced.

Re: Home At Last (Rena/Henry/Pool/etc)
"I suppose, in theory," Henry Hyde admitted skeptically. "There were large cities throughout history, but their outskirts often became part of the city, and when it didn't directly, it seemingly became the focal point where every unfortunate congregated. I?read Roman historians who described not only Rome itself in such terms, but also Carthage and Tyre..."
?
The good doctor found himself almost marveling at his own words. They seemed somehow incongruous, despite being perfectly candid, perhaps because he was talking to a daughter of Eve. There were several progressively minded women in society but he had no reason to assume they cared about the past. He perhaps should not have assumed Rena would either, but if?felt natural to discuss such things with her at any rate. ?
?
"I believe Glasgow has a reputation for giving rise to some small towns, adjacent to it?while being separate, yet I cannot but feel it serves as an exception. London?itself is very different, being so massively populated. Of course they do call?the Americas a New World, for a reason, I suppose. With lesser population, it might have given rise to varying conditions, a scholar of men would find?fertile research ground there, no doubt. As for myself, I have difficulty to fathom the outskirts as becoming a legitimate place of habitation, though my upbringing could have contributed to it..." Henry dubiously concluded.
?
"Ah, well love for the dead is more apt, I wager. Considering how much appreciation I have for all the secrets they can reveal to me in terms of anatomy, physiology. Oh the marvels, as deep as the barely explored oceans, as vast, as alien to average conception. Yes, a fan of the dead bodies I remain, and my admiration for their services freely confess," Hyde quipped, sardonically imitating the style of an impassioned lover chanting an ode to his beloved.
?
Even though he knew Rena might truly be asking another question, this type of answer served well nonetheless. To elucidate his inner most workings, to provide an insight into the enigma that he was, and possibly to imply a word of caution about his darker aspects, all in good cheer of course. It was not that he sought to?steer Rena's affection away, but he did not wish for it to be blind, unfounded, and frustrated, should the truth of him ever be revealed
?
?"The custodian, well he was alive, until recently. Several matrons started inviting him to their party, making him a guest of honor. It is common to invite interesting guests of course, to offer entertainment, at least that is the practice here, in Her Majesty's kingdom. We often ensure the sufficiently high stature or remarkable intellect of the presented guest. Alas, I fear the custodian, while lacking both attributes that could recommend him, serves as great fun with his theories.
?
I heard something about Lady Winters herself, a notable socialite, inviting both a custodian and a junior official at some ministry, to create an artificial confrontation between them, as the former librarian, without being a rebel like the French savages, naturally, still undertakes this mission of revealing his truth about the affairs of the Government, or its machinations, when referring to his Grey Cardinals.?I don't think the encounter between him and the official materialized quite yet, but several people I know ought to know where the custodian resides, perhaps even Lanyon's wife, she thrives on all the recent goings on in society.
?
As for the supernatural, I know not. Only that some people are credulous and ascribe supernatural explanations to what their rational mind is not qualified to explain, but there are exceptions, a colleague of mind is both gifted and has demonstrated some...counter intuitive experiments, to say the least," Henry thoughtfully admitted. |

Re: Late Night Lab Work (Victor/Elizabeth)
Victor gave a slow nod, "I have some that come in the lab part-time, but then usually? it's just I who is there."? He smiled and gave a warm chuckle when she mentioned lotions with color; "I already have some that are very close to natural skin color, in fact, one of them matches yours so closely that no-one should ever know the difference."? He nodded when she spoke of being alive because of science, "but you are mainly alive because you have such a strong will to live, and this is a wonderful thing."? He studied her then as she thought of how to ask her next question, knowing that there were some struggles with which he could not assist, but would do better to let her at least attempt to work them out for herself; this was one such struggle.? He smiled when she finally managed to ask it, "Um...actually, no, we have not slept together, or consummated our marriage yet.? You wanted to wait until we were married, and I always admired you for that, and tried my best to respect it, though your ravishing beauty made that quite the challenge, and still does; then of course, after we were married we...never, had...the chance."? His expression saddened momentarily, "but see, now all of that is over, forever behind us, and we have our full lives together, an entire lifetime in which to grow, to learn, laugh and love."? He placed his hand in hers, and tenderly gazed into her eyes, "a bath it is then, come, I will tell the servants to run you a nice, warm bath,"

? ? "Do you have assistants and such at your lab?? If not I wouldn't?
mind going there tomorrow to see everything I've missed. It's weird I? don't think I had a major interest in science, I thought that was? definitely more your territory.? However, I am in a way existing because? of science. Think I'll learn a bit more. I'm hungry for knowledge," she? admitted.? "I can't imagine it would be hard for you to create a lotion? with color, the color of normal skin.? Maybe some sort of dye or? something, I'd not know where to start.? After all, this is going to? make me stand out a lot and that will make it harder for us to navigate? this world. Think I'll have a bath then food and whatever comes after? that. Reading can wait," she added.? She stared at Victor for a moment? wondering how she'd ask her next question.? She decided to just ask. ???? "Victor, I feel awkward in a way since my memory is in pieces.?? Maybe that will improve in time.? I have to well want to know something? and I? don't know how to ask delicately.? She took a deep breath and? burst out.? "Have we ever slept together?? I mean in the fullest sense??? I know most wanted to wait for their wedding night but I'm not so naive? that I think everyone waited," she said blushing with embarrassment. |
