Re: How can I make bi-directional die holder???
#adjustment

The 3 jaw chuck scroll bearing is where most can found for errors.?
A low cost chuck can have as must as 0.0015" bearing clearance and highly costly chuck as little as 0.000,15 clearance.?? A machinist? will use a brass hammer and tap Jaws to bring inalinment.?? Do not try this on the??highly costly chuck? they will not move.? Dave? |
Re: Milling attachment for mini lathe
Here's my chip guard modification on Grizzly 7x12.? Needed more room when I got a compound upgrade so I bent it back at the base and made a bracket? to support the headstock end.? Worked out nicely with subsequent milling attachment.

Re: Milling attachment for mini lathe
As I cant reach much behind the bench to the wall, I just use cardboard for everything. Backboard, under lathe swarf catchment, mill chip guards and such. I get a lot of cardboard boxes thus I can use and toss constantly. For me it provides easy clean up. george

I need to either remove or extend the backsplash mounting ( Ted Hanson’s book has a how to on that) in order to get more working area, since the whole thing runs into the backsplash before I run out of cross feed screw. His book also has a nice mobile cabinet/lathe stand design for the 7x10 lathe, which is the one I have. But that has to wait until I have the time/money to build my work shop so I can move out of the galley-like work area I’ve currently have in our unusable-as-a-garage garage :-/ Yes there’s a lathe in this picture, next to the drill press :-) I really do need to straighten my bench up.

Looks like my shop and I use a wheelchair ! Well, I do have a clear area for my lathe and mill but that's about it. george

Re: Milling attachment for mini lathe
You can add plate for more work aera too.
It limit on stork to 2" x 3" . This should do almost everything needed for milling.?? When had Bridgeport with 48" table most was done 5"x5" in rare I need to take vise for larger work.? Now I am downsizing even my work. Dave |
Re: Erratic spindle speed
Hi Tom,
The fwd/rev switch is prone to having swarf fall through the opening around the lever and cause major damage to the electronics should it short the wrong terminals.? Consider fitting a shield to this switch to avoid this, for an example see the top picture here:? Also consider checking for and removing swarf that has previously made its way into this switch. I should have noted - I have just upgraded my LMS 7x12 with a 7x16 Bed Extension and find the gnashing is actually Gear B just barely contacting behind Gear D on it's back edge. The gears have ~2/3 engagement, likely due to problems noted below. |
Re: Adjusting Gears Just Right
Like the pdf how complex it can be .
The way I found is paper between the gears on setup. It fast and easy.? Most gears like a gap of 0.005" [0.12mm] . You adjust the paper layers till gears run quite.? Today I can feel the gap need. The 0.005" [0.12mm]?gap is only for most change gears in machine shop. Larger gears needs a greater gap and watch gears need a lot less. But here we do not care we are working with mini lathes.? I like photos posted?
It helps see how others did the setup.? This not my first mill attachment.? I had a Pamgram on 9A South Bend back in the 1960's.?? Then did not know what I was doing.?? I learn with Lathe , Drill press and welding equipment.? I did line boring with just ?" hand drill.? ?I did not have any one say can done.? Dave? |
