Kia ora ZICG members, This message will be posted every month to keep you informed about the Zeiss Ikon Collectors Group (ZICG). It will also be available anytime on the YahooGroups website . It contains important details about the mailing list and is sent to new subscribers. --- CONTENTS: - About Yahoogroups - Posting to ZICG - (Un)Subscribing - Points of Reference - Official ZICG Web Page - Mail settings for ZICG - Member Web Pages - Other Mailing Lists - End Notes * = section updated --- ABOUT Yahoogroups Yahoogroups is a free mailing list service. You can set your own email distribution list by going to or see information about the ZICG mailing list at If you are a member of Yahoo AND you are a member of ZICG, you can view the archive of emails online as well as change your personal settings (such as digest mode etc). You may also view the subscription list. ZICG used to be listed with Coollist. Poor reliability and even poorer customer service saw ZICG move in May 2000 to eGroups. William Lurie organised with nine other members to keep ZICG ad-free and paid eGroups a fee to drop all advertisements from emails. ZICG became ad-free from November 5, 2000. EGroups became a possession of Yahoo in December, 2000. Hence ZICG became a Yahoo group. --- POSTING TO ZICG The ZICG list was set up for people who want to discuss anything Zeiss. ZICG is a collection of Zeiss authorities and enthusiasts brought together through the medium of email to share knowledge as friends. Anybody can be a member and nobody has ever been banned. You cannot send attachments. If you want to share a file, put it on a website and post the URL to the list. Remember that .vcf files (vcards) are classified as attachments. As a member, you can upload photos and files to the ZICG archives with Yahoo and then send notification to the list. Please do not post HTML or specially formatted messages to the list. If you can, turn off these options on your email program. Some ZICG members cannot read your message if you send it in those formats. Sale or Wanted adverts are acceptable on ZICG. All adverts must be about Zeiss equipment. You can post them at any time as a dealer or collector. Please do not abuse this policy, regulations will be set if members become dissatisfied with excessive sale/wanted adverts from the same individuals. It is acceptable to send an auction URL as long as it maintains a relevance to discussion on ZICG. --- (UN)SUBSCRIBING To subscribe, visit or email ZICG-subscribe@.... Re: Book on Tenax II
Hi Wes,
You can certainly put me down for a copy, but I have no idea how many other people might be interested. I suspect not many, it’s a bit of a niche interest. Subject: [ZICG] Book on Tenax II All: I am currently working on an illustrated history and compendium on the Tenax II camera and its accessories. I expect to have it ready to print in 2017. What I need is a feel for how many people think they might want to own such a work. Any thoughts? Thanks, WES LODER [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
Re: Book on Tenax II
Dear Wes Loder, I would be happy to buy and read your new book. Unfortunately I cannot estimate the number of people who would be interested in Tenax camera book. I have several original reviews of this camera in various German journals as well as Zeiss articles in Zeiss Bruecke from 1939. If you are interested, I can prepare the translation. with best regards Dmytro "wesloder133@... Re: Can you pleae help date my lens:
Hello,
Your CZJ lens #10271 was part of a batch of ten standard anastigmat formula lenses (serial numbers 10268 to 10277), at 170mm f/6.3, produced around the 10th of November in 1894, for some model of focal plane shutter camera made by A. Stegemann of Berlin, I would assume either their "Geheim-Kamera" or the updated version that was the "Hand-Kamera". Best wishes, David Silver On Sun, 12 Feb 2017, purpleboat@... 521/2 Rangefinder
Hi everyone I have made a slow start experimenting with my 521/2 and had some mixed results! Members of this group (Piers and Simon) very kindly sent me instruction manuals for a later model (the Ikonta which I think is model number 531 onwards) and I have been using the depth of focus tables from there to compose my photographs since my model doesn't have a rangefinder. Does anyone with an earlier model like mine have any tips as how to further inmprove my results? Is there such a thing as a separate rangefinder contraption that I could use? I am new to photography in general so please excuse my ignorance but willing to learn! Louise |

earliest Carl Zeiss Jena lens known to exist...
Something you don't see every day...a Triplet Achromat 250mm f/6.3 lens, among the most rare of all CZJ standard lenses (only 48 were manufactured, some with the alternative name Triplet Apochromat), the first lens design patented by CZJ in 1890 (predates the Protar by over three months), and at serial number 14 the single earliest and oldest CZJ lens known to exist. Oh, my. Selling on eBay, auction to finish tomorrow (Thursday) evening. See it here:

Re: Serial numbers
Dear Timur, the dates are correct. Zeiss used special numbers slots for different lenses, so there is no wonder why there is no consecutive numbering. The dates listed by H. Thiele are found on Zeias Dispositions-Karten. These dates do not refer to the actual production dates but rather to the date when the contract on lens batch production was signed or agreed. More details on this subject you can find in the L. Gubas compedium "Zeiss and photography". With best regards, Dmytro "tharacic@... Looks like that you swapped the dates between Sonnar and Biotar. Kind regards, Timur |
