Re: Unknown Item on Ebay
I have found two source Zeiss Ikon documents (one a German language February 1938 pamphlet, another a French language booklet dated March 1939 entitled 'Camera d¡¯Enregistrement¡¯), it is a 'Registrier-Camera', normally equipped with a 'Graphikon' lens (?) and C0mpur shutter although also available with a Tessar 2.8/8cm lens. Re: Unknown Item on Ebay
My first thought was a?variable speed film camera until I saw that Compur-Rapid (still camera) shutter sitting on front. Very unusual ! Best Regards, Hans Kerensky ??

Zeiss Ikon Collectors Group (ZICG). List Information, version 2.3.7
Kia ora ZICG members, This message will be posted every month to keep you informed about the Zeiss Ikon Collectors Group (ZICG). It will also be available anytime on the YahooGroups website . It contains important details about the mailing list and is sent to new subscribers. --- CONTENTS: - About Yahoogroups - Posting to ZICG - (Un)Subscribing - Points of Reference - Official ZICG Web Page - Mail settings for ZICG - Member Web Pages - Other Mailing Lists - End Notes * = section updated --- ABOUT Yahoogroups Yahoogroups is a free mailing list service. You can set your own email distribution list by going to or see information about the ZICG mailing list at If you are a member of Yahoo AND you are a member of ZICG, you can view the archive of emails online as well as change your personal settings (such as digest mode etc). You may also view the subscription list. ZICG used to be listed with Coollist. Poor reliability and even poorer customer service saw ZICG move in May 2000 to eGroups. William Lurie organised with nine other members to keep ZICG ad-free and paid eGroups a fee to drop all advertisements from emails. ZICG became ad-free from November 5, 2000. EGroups became a possession of Yahoo in December, 2000. Hence ZICG became a Yahoo group. --- POSTING TO ZICG The ZICG list was set up for people who want to discuss anything Zeiss. ZICG is a collection of Zeiss authorities and enthusiasts brought together through the medium of email to share knowledge as friends. Anybody can be a member and nobody has ever been banned. You cannot send attachments. If you want to share a file, put it on a website and post the URL to the list. Remember that .vcf files (vcards) are classified as attachments. As a member, you can upload photos and files to the ZICG archives with Yahoo and then send notification to the list. Please do not post HTML or specially formatted messages to the list. If you can, turn off these options on your email program. Some ZICG members cannot read your message if you send it in those formats. Sale or Wanted adverts are acceptable on ZICG. All adverts must be about Zeiss equipment. You can post them at any time as a dealer or collector. Please do not abuse this policy, regulations will be set if members become dissatisfied with excessive sale/wanted adverts from the same individuals. It is acceptable to send an auction URL as long as it maintains a relevance to discussion on ZICG. --- (UN)SUBSCRIBING To subscribe, visit or email ZICG-subscribe@.... Once you have done this you will be emailed a message to the address you subscribed with. Follow the instructions in the email and your end of the enrolment process will be completed. New member introduction
Michael Carter
Hi,
My name is Michael Carter in Pittsburgh PA. I have interest in Zeiss-Ikon camera, 521/2, because of that little door over the red film window. 6x9 is the largest size my enlarger will use. Compur-Rapid shutters are on two of the various Ikons I have. Another f6.3 took such good pictures that I sought Zeiss-Ikon cameras with different lenses to see how good they could get. They are used a lot. I develop and print in my darkroom. My web site is www.studiocarter.com and I like to write about the cameras I use. Michael |

Re: Help to date an Ikonta 520/2
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello again Neil,
?
My 1931 catalogue says ¡°TWO FINDERS are supplied with the 1931 models, the
usual brilliant pattern and a neat direct vision type, fitted to side of camera¡±
(capitals as in the original) so any model prior to this would have only the
brilliant finder.
?
I don¡¯t have a UK catalogue earlier than 1931, but your camera was
certainly available in the US in 1930, and I am sure it would have been readily
available here soon after its introduction; Zeiss Ikon were very active in the
export market.
?
Regards,
David

Many thanks
David, it seems very early indeed, and surprising that it's popped up in the
north of England unless, like my late uncle's Voigtl?nder, it came back with him
when he returned after the war.
?
I think I have partially
answered my own query by going through some of the groups online files, it
appears serials starting with O or P refer to 1928 but was the lack of the two
frame viewfinder common on these early Ikonta 520/2's.
?
Best Regards
Neil.

Hello Neil,
?
Dating Zeiss Ikon cameras by serial number is at best approximate, as no
records survive, but according to the list I have the prefix P was probably
allocated in 1928. (in many years production was such that more than one letter
was used per year, O and P in 1928 for instance) As the Ikonta range was not
launched onto the market until 1929 this would make your camera a very early
model , which accounts for the square ended foot and lack of frame finder.
?
Hope this helps,
David

Subject: [ZICG] Help to date an Ikonta 520/2 ? ?
Hi All,
I've recently aquired a Zeiss
Ikon Ikonta 520/2 for my modest collection of vintage cameras, and have
discovered from the usual search engines this model was in production from the
late 1920's through to 1937 but I would like to pin down the date a little
closer. The camera itself has the serial number "P 59728" stamped on the inner
case and has the Novar 6.3/10.5 and Derval lens/shutter combo, but unlike many
examples I have seen of this model on the web it does not have a two frame
viewfinder on it's side and the folding door hinged leg has a square end where
as on other models I've seen this has been rounded. I'm hoping the group members
could shead some light on it's origin. I did find some exchanges for this model
where reference was made to the serials and? which seemed to imply that the
letter part of the serial could be a year code ie "U" =1931 and "V"=1932 but
that would place "P" as 1926 which I gather was before the camera was
launched??. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ?
Best Regards
Neil. |
