Help to date an Ikonta 520/2
Hi All, I've
recently aquired a Zeiss Ikon Ikonta 520/2 for my modest collection of
vintage cameras, and have discovered from the usual search engines this model was in production
from the late 1920's through to 1937 but I would like to pin down the date
a little closer. The camera itself has the serial number "P 59728"
stamped on the inner case and has the Novar 6.3/10.5 and Derval lens/shutter combo, but unlike many examples I have seen of this
model on the web it does not have a two frame viewfinder on it's side and the folding door hinged leg has a square end where as on other models I've seen this has been rounded. I'm hoping the
group members could shead some light on it's origin. I did find some exchanges for this model where reference was made to the serials and? which seemed to imply that the letter part of the serial could be a year code ie "U" =1931 and "V"=1932 but that would place "P" as 1926 which I gather was before the camera was launched??. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best Regards Neil. |
Re: zeiss super ikonta 6x9
Hello Franco, Glad to be of help ! Usually you will find the Zeiss Ikon model number somewhere imprinted on the leatherette on the back. In the case of your camera probably number 531/2. Enjoy your Super Ikonta ! Hans Kerensky?

Re: zeiss super ikonta 6x9
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýCan you post some photos of? your camera? That would help in identifying it. ? The Super Ikontas had coupled rangefinders, whereas the Ikontas had viewfinders only. ? If your camera has the popup viewfinder and no rangefinder and the shutter release on the body, it may be an Ikonta 521 C, or Ikonta 521/2 (6 x 9 cm frame, with a 10.5cm lens).Best way to identify it is by comparing it to photos of Ikontas and Super Ikontas online. ? I have an Ikonta 521 A (4.5 x 6) with the serial number preceded by F, which indicates it is from 1938. If that letter designation holds up across versions and models, then yours may also be from that year. Without seeing photos or knowing more details about your camera that¡¯s just speculation, though. ? Noel ? ? From:

I found one camera 6x9 with NOVAR-ANASTIGMAT 3.5/105mm The serial number F96911. How I can undesrtand the year production and if it's a super ikonta or ikonta and wich models. ? Re: Contaflex TLR body and lens number
I suspect that it should read 'Made for China', there is an article in the current issue of Zeiss Historica which clears up most of the mystery of the Zeiss Ikon cameras (and accessories) marked 'Made for China;. Regarding details of the Super Nettel, yes please. Regards, Simon Worsley? |
Re: Contaflex TLR body and lens number
I would like some information on this , since Zeiss never made? that camera in China. Picture detail would help. Thanks On Monday, August 10, 2015 10:28 AM, "mm-elek@... [ZICG]" wrote:

Simon,
Thanks very much for the reply! On a different note, I just received an e-mail from a fellow who owns a Super Nettel with the "Made in China" markings. Would you be interested in knowing more about this camera? If so, I can put him in touch with you. -Mike Elek |

Re: Contaflex TLR body and lens number
The Contaflex was introduced in 1935 and I estimate that the earliest production examples had body serial numbers (the ¡®¹ó²¹²ú°ù¾±°ì²¹³Ù¾±´Ç²Ô²õ²Ô³Ü³¾³¾±ð°ù¡¯) in the range Y.84001 to Y.85500, later production batches were: Z.42001 to Z.43000, A.46001 to A.47000, A.49501 to A.51000 and finally A.75501 to A.76500 ¨C for a estimated total production run of 5,750 Contaflex¡¯s.? When you specific camera (with its ¡®¹ó²¹²ú°ù¾±°ì²¹³Ù¾±´Ç²Ô²õ²Ô³Ü³¾³¾±ð°ù¡¯ of A.46261) was made (or at least released to the market) is harder to estimate however I note that in the Zeiss Ikon trade magazine Br¨¹cke for October 1937 a Contaflex A.46134 is reported stolen and?I have a note of a receipt dated April 1937 for Super Ikonta 530/16 with a serial number of A.45463. Bottom line is that I estimate your Contaflex A.46261 dates from 1937. Regards, Simon Worsley |
Contaflex TLR body and lens number
I've owned this camera for about a decade. I just replaced the shutter straps. The lens is not the original. The original had a broken filter ring. Body number: A46261 Lens: 1930936 (CZJ f/2.0 Sonnar) I also have the 13.5cm Sonnar. I'll provide the lens number later. Any idea of the date for the body? By the way, replacing the straps wasn't nearly as complicated as what I was led to believe.? -Mike Elek |

Re: Nettar 517/16, Novar 1:6.3 75mm Lens reformulated during production period
?When we look specific at Medium Format 6x6 folders and strictly postwar then there are indeed not many folders that focus by moving the whole lens. Some that I know of : Agfa Super Isolette (on my wish list) and its clone, the KMZ Iskra Balda Super Baldax Certo Six (on my wish list) There will be more of course but these are the better known ones.
