Wayne Shorter 1986 Sao Paulo Brazil

...hi folks

I just found this on YouTube - check out the video's uploaded by Milan Simich?

Wayne Shorter 1986-00-00 RTC Sao Paulo Brazil

Uploaded by Milan Simich

Set list

Plaza Real

Footprints

Sweet Pee

Endangered Species

?

Players

Wayne Shorter sax

Jim Beard keys,

Alphonso Johnson bass,

Ken Wood drums ( Kenwood Dennard )?

?
my notes
Not great quality visually and the beginning has been clipped but the music is amazing
¡I¡¯m wondering if Kenwood Dennard ever played with Weather Report I saw him play with Brand X in the 1970's
-he is noted on this as Ken Wood?

My Question is - does anyone here have a date for the gig or a venue - there are many interesting?videos, he says he is a promoter who put on gigs in Serbia and many of the vids he has uploaded are from there Serbia / Yugoslavia?

best wishes?

Steve Ball

Re: WR Resource

...for anyone who doesn't know the sugarmegs list, there are thousands of items there -not much new stuff being added but they do turn up from time to time -you'll find plenty of fusion or jazz rock or whatever you want to cal it, all the usual suspects are there and a few more besides...

...I didn't know about the jazzfusiontv - and I've downloaded about 80 items from that -some WR re-mastered recordings, a bit more clarity than those old audio cassettes -and i found a whole load of rarities that I didn't know about Herbie Hancock from his Mwandishi period pre headhunters and a really cool Flora Purim w George Duke and Cannonball Adderley...

...if anyone knows of any other lists, please don't assume that we all know about them...email me direct if you don't want to post here...

best?

Steve?

Re: WR Resource

...thanks Pierre,?

I didn't know about that the first link - the second is amazing...

...does anyone know of any others???

One of the old recordings is Weather Report Berliner Jazztage 1975 FM - Lusitanos is miss listed it should be Scarlet Woman - but at the beginning of the? medley Directions / Dr Homouris Causa / Directions - Wayne plays Lyricon - a type of sax synth, and there is a duet with Wayne & Joe, that is incredible, I wish Wayne had played more lyricon -he didn't play it much but the colours he could have produced...

check out these youTubers?
perceval degraal - he has over 700 vids on YouTube WR - Zawinul - MIles etc etc etc...

franknzappa3?- 270 vids - mixed bag...

Emiliano Franco - only has 21 vids but one of them is a miss titles Weather Report 1973 - which is in reality 1975, it is really good quality vid - not simply an audio track - if anyone?could tell me more about this I would really appreciate it...

Vintage Music Experience - 1.7k vids - check them out

Well that's enough for me...YouTube seems to have developed 'automatic mastering' so uploading audio's with a picture, kind of fake video, is a way of uploading old converted 'analogue to digital' recordings - i would love to hear anyone's comment on that...masterring is sometimes the bit of the process that trips people up...

Re: RIP Wayne Shorter

...truly an?end of an era Pierre, yes i agree?- a truly great composer, but what about his work as a sideman, I love what he did on Joni Mitchell's songs - not one 'throw-away' note, ever tone exactly right for the song...improvisation at its best,? a total complement to the lead artist...maybe that's?what friends are for? I don't see anyone these days that can replace him or even be the 'next' Wayne Shorter...

Hi all,

Just thought I'd mention that I've been doing pretty regular posts on my Weather Report website (about once a month or so), which you may not be aware of and my find intersting. The most recent one remembers Weather Report's 1972 tour with the rock group Santana. You can sign up to receive emails when new posts are made if you wish. Anyway, here's the website url:

... re Microgroove, i have?many musician?friends who were on the UK circuit at that?time - I was also too?but I don't know them, hopefully?I will find someone who might have been part of the band...I shall get back to you on that...July 29th 1990 was a Sunday - I was working that night, July 20th was a Friday, I know I didn't get to the gig because?I had a gig myself...from memory I think it was the Sunday but I shall check my old diary's?- I might have noted the Zawinul gig in there...unfortunately, my old diaries are in storage...I shall have a look tomorrow...

I already found this: . The album is made in 1989 (ZS is 1990) and if you scroll down to the review section under the listing (signed April 5th 2010), you learn they're a UK band playing funk .... so we do have a serious connection with ZS that may validate the ticket and date of July 29th!
