I found the following in the very old 'Drietalige Idioomboek'. They use 'naald' instead of 'ring'.

Jy kan horn deur 'n naald trek.
He looks killing. He is dressed to kill (dressed (up) to
the nines) . He looks as smart as a new pin (threepence).
