I was curious about the Atlas 'Rail Joiner Sidekick' to place rail joiner on to track rails. These are sold by Ztrack and, ModelTrainStuff (MB Klein) and Atlas in their Z categories. Not sold at Zscalemonster or ZscaleHobo and I understand why. It does not work on Atlas Z scale Rail Joiners or Rokuhan's. It does work on MTL's 990 40 909 (after you clip one 'tongue' off)?

The N stub on the tool has a thin rib down the middle. Atlas Z joiners, Rokuhan and M?rklin joiners are too wide so no grip at all. Micro-Trains rail, much closer to Code 55 has a narrower rali web (the vertical metal between the rail head and footer) so there joiners are too.

Its always great when products are advertised as All-Scale and, sold in the Z section but no one there has tested it.

I use a small Jeweler's screw driver, ground down to match the beveled rail footer and a slightly small taper from front to a stop point on the side. This allows you easily pick it up and steady it while pressing onto the rail, with expanding the joiner.

Gerhard, Interesting !? However, can they just print the Inner 'concrete' (between rails) and Outside the rail?? Outside the rail would be a small width, ~1/2 meter or less, in contact with the rail. Approximately 0.1"/2.5mm.
The CAD model should be able to remove all the large pieces, support and interlock. Results would be trimmed to lenght.

you can look on shapeways, there are a lot of road pieces, turntables, turnouts, curved tracks and many other.
There are items with code 75 and code 100 rails.
Also in other gauges, N, HO ect.
In Europ shapays is printing in Netherland, in USA manufacturing facilityes are in Long Island City,N.Y.

Cutting street fill for curves is not difficult if you place a large piece of paper over the curve and then use the old side of pencil or charcoal stick tracing trick to make a track pattern. Cut this out with allowance for flange passing and ,,, after a little snip , file and tuck you have a pattern for the styrene insert. Done it.

Sorry for delayed response, and thanks for all the replies.? The compact layout is about 31.5" x 45". It is based on a suitcase plan in the old "Marklin Spass mit Mini-Club" book, but mine doesn't fold in half.? One loop has live catenary with a siding.? I wound up using 4 feeders, so they are about 2 feet apart.? I made two of the feeders myself from standard masts.? I also needed to solder up a couple custom length wire sections.? ?I've just finished the track and catenary feeder wiring hook-up below the layout and will do some testing.? But based on some resistance checks with a multi-meter around the catenary loop, the 4 feeders seem to be enough.? The track feeders are more numerous so that there is not more than about 2 rail joints between feeders.

none. The Pro-Z product, LONG sold out would have been a good idea for them to make and Rokuhan too. But, no.

Straights are easy, cutting .030 styrene to fit between the inner tie plates but curves need to be laser cut, as do the turnout parts. I’ve done the plaster method before, sorta works.

Golden State Passenger sets with E7s!

For sixty-six years, the Southern Pacific and the Rock Island Railroad operated the ‘Golden State’ passenger trains. These trains ran between Chicago and Los Angeles. The streamlined cars with the vermilion red and silver entered service starting in January 1948. Both the SP and RI contributed matching sets of equipment for these trains.
