Who can fix them?
Rob, Can Rokuhan fix them? I'm sure I can prove they were purchased within the last 12 months.

-First, is there any indication of how how much lenght the MTL coupler box has to be trimmed ? -And finally 3rd : will the adapter be sold as a spare part (for example at AZL Direct's) for use on any other AZL locomotive ? I'm thinking about my GP38-2s (only one is retrofitted - with non trimmed MTL coupler boxes which I definitly think they protrude too far) and above all about my GP30, which has rather short chassis / carbody beyond trucks...

October 2021 New Releases Part 2

?

TODAY Z SCALE CHANGED – THE SW1500s ARE HERE!

?<AZL_SW1500_62702_SP_s.jpeg>

Since the inception of Z scale, US modelers have asked the question, when will a true switcher be commercially available? Today is the day. AZL is excited to announce the immediate release of SW1500s.

?

Produced by EMD between 1966 and 1974, a total of 808 SW1500 switchers were produced. Over 60 railroads ordered these locomotives including the majority of the class 1 railroads. The SW1500 was rated at 1,500hp. While chiefly a freight locomotive, the SW1500s would see limited passenger service as well on the commuter railroads. Through the years, the locomotive would be passed on to a number of railroads and short-lines. The design and reliability of these locomotives comes through when you consider large numbers are still in use today, nearly 55 years after they were first released.

?

AZL has elected to offer the Southern Pacific as the first release. The SP operated 204 of the SW1500s. They were by far the largest fleet owner of SW1500s. AZL is offering three road numbers:

?

62702-1 SP EMD SW1500 2615

62702-2 SP EMD SW1500 2620

62702-3 SP EMD SW1500 2621

The SW1500s feature numerous prototype specific details, traction tires, blacken metal-wheels, innovative drive train and truck design, directional-controlled LEDs and AZL’s AutoLatchTM couplers.

?

As a bonus, AZL’s Innovation Lab is including two adapters that allow the SW1500 to be retrofitted with Micro-TriainsTM 905 couplers.

This is a very different design and AZL definitely upped their details with this release. As of now, there are no DCC boards available for a sway. I am sure someone will come up with a design that works. Once we have instructions on how to safely remove the shell, we will post it.?

Re: Why This Notice

AZL posted the following on their forum. I can contest, it is VERY easy to damage the shells while attempted to do so. I did just that in my own testing:

The SW1500 shell can be removed; however, it requires a very different technique than our previous products. Until we can create detailed instructions we are advising people: DO NOT attempt disassembly. We destroyed more than a few shells before we discovered the correct technique. We don’t want the same thing to happen to our valued customers.

Union Pacific’s “City of San Francisco”

?

Beginning in 1936, the Union Pacific began operations of the “City of San Francisco” passenger train. The train operated between Chicago, IL and Oakland, CA on the Overland Route. A ferry connection completed the service to San Francisco. The C&NW, Milwaukee Road, and Southern Pacific were co-owners in the train and contributed rolling stock to the roster.

?

Starting in 1938, the lightweight passenger cars were introduced. Typical trains were 17 cars in length and could accommodate 222 passenger. These lightweight cars are represented in AZL’s set. The sets were powered by EMD locomotives and were cable of a speed of 110mph.? This would allow the “City of San Francisco” to make the trip in 39 ? hours. This included 37 stops for the westbound trains and 38 stops on the eastbound trains.

?

The “City of San Francisco” would continue operations until 1972 when Amtrak took over all long distance passenger route.

?

AZL is offering two passenger sets. Each set comes with a mix of sleepers, diners, coaches, observation and mail cars.

Re: Using Atlas 'Rail Joiner Sidekick' #Joiner #Track

I have been using a home made tool using Bill Kronenbergers idea.

Take a small cheap screw driver. Cut a slot ine end and solder a small piece of zscale rail in the slot at an angle.

Now slide a rail joiner onto that piece of rail and ues the toon to slide the rail joiner onto toe end of track.

Saves on fingers, nails, and the many unattractive phrases used when the rail joiner jams onto tender fingers.

Re: Using Atlas 'Rail Joiner Sidekick' #Joiner #Track

I don't sell it because - one ... this is the first I've heard of it; the masses aren't exactly knocking my doors down for it! .... and - two ... even after reading your post i'm still completely clueless as to what this item does. ? doesn't a fine-tipped needle nose pliers + 1 hand install a joiner onto a rail? Or just two bare hands - one to hold the track section and another to push the joiner onto a rail? ??
