Re: ycat virtual com port
The link for the software is:? ?
This has three different applications: * YCAT - Full featured Yaesu FT-891, FT-991/a, and FT-dx10 CAT control/monitoring program * Simple YCAT - is mainly monitoring application for all meters with some user definable control ? ? ?- this works for several Yaesu radio types, from FT-450 through FT-dx3000 * WMON - is a "use at your own risk" software for catching UDP messages from WSJT-x for mapping and portable logging. Enjoy! |

Eric,
? ?Just re-read your e-mail.? ? The virtual serial cable: ? ?com0com : Some people use and swear by "com0com". ? ?HHD Software - Virtual Serial Port Tools? ? ? ? * I have tried and purchased Virtual Serial Cable from HHD Software.? I like it but was having some issues with it and USB hub with one of my Win 11 updates. ? FabulaTech - VSPC, evaluated this and was trying to include with YCAT.? Still a possibility however? ? K5FR - VSP Manager - I like this and am currently using this.? I believe you need to request this directly from him. ? ?In addition to this, I will be testing using RS-232 interface on the FT-991a and the FT-dx10.? ?If this pans out, there will be a way to integrate WSJT-x and YCAT without a virtual serial cable! ? ?Best regards, ? ? ? Re: ycat virtual com port
Eric,
? It actually worked! ? Hooked up a USB to RS232 and a 1 to 1 DB 9 female to female serial cable to the PC and my dx10. ? Ran WSJT-x on the serial port.? ? Then hooked up YCAT to the radio USB connector and they played great together!!!! ? Give it a whirl!? ?I posted a tech bulletin on this in the FB YCAT group. Best regards, ? ? Steve |

Re: ycat virtual com port
So, after purchasing a newer USB to RS-232 cable Windows recognized and installed the drivers.
My older USB to RS-232 cables were not recognized in Win11 which required the newer cable. When trying to connect to the radio, both the cable and radio had 9-pin D male connectors.? ?This required using a 9-pin D female to female cable.? ? This did not immediately work because pins 2 & 3 needed to be reversed.? After this change the FT-991a and FT-dx10 both work with WSJT-x physically connected to the radio directly.? ?YCAT can still use the USB driver and no virtual cable is required.? ? It is best to put WSJT-x on RS-232 port because it doesn't support Auto Information and WSJT-x doesn't use it either.? ?It will turn off Auto Information. Best regards, ? ? Steve? ?KC5NK |
Re: Free Trial Period
Steve,
? ?Yes, there is a 30-day free trial period. ? ?I made modifications to the storefront to allow downloading the application with no charge.? ?This way you should be able to download and try before you purchase. ? ?Here is a link to the store:? ? ? ?Choose YCAT and choose the 30-day trial option.? ?It is the same file used for the full version. ? ?Thank you for the question! Connectivity Questions
Greetings... |
Re: Connectivity Questions
Hi, Steve. I've spent a lot of time figuring out and dealing with virtual com ports and mappings without good results. Finally (if you have FTDX10 like me) I've used 2 connections from TRX - USB for YCAT and RS-232 for omnirig.
YCAT - USB, RS-232 - Omnirig -> Log4OM + SDRConsole + WSJT-X + whatever you wish? Alex LY4SA |
Re: Connectivity Questions
Hi Alex...? Thanks for the info.? I'm still working on a solution.? Agree that what you have described above would work, but my computer does not have a RS232 port.? Did not think I would ever need one when I built the thing.? I'll post back here if I find something that works. |
Re: Connectivity Questions
I purchased a USB to RS-232 cable to test this.? My older USB to RS-232 converter cables are no longer supported by Microsoft.? ?:( I'm curious if you tried to connect your virtual cable to the EXT Serial interface in YCAT to something like OmniRig.? ?As far as frequency changes, that should work in that interface. |
Re: Connectivity Questions
Sorry, but have not been able to make the EXT Serial interface work with OmniRig.? At present, YCAT and the radio will talk nicely with each other.? Very frustrating because, at one time, YCAT, the radio and SDRConsloe were all three talking together.? Tomorrow, I'll try to replicate that and take notes on what I did.? Progress is sometimes elusive. |
Serial 11 active, but no communication between YCAT and FT-891
Glenn, KG7IL
Using the same PC, VirtCom11,cables,etc that has been working with HRD, I cannot get YCAT and the FT-891 to communicate. Because HRD is often flaky, I have learned the 'full reset' of the communications chain.?? Com 11 is shown Active in the Status Bar, it is shown Opened in the Communications log.? The YCAT program main screen has no data (except the normal 00000 stuff)? I'll find some time to get back to it, but thought a quick post might elicit a response to a common user problem and solution? |
Re: Serial 11 active, but no communication between YCAT and FT-891
Glen,
? ?I'm not familiar with VirtCom. ? ?Are you talking about the Yaesu Virtual Serial port (enhanced) ?? ? This is the COM port in the PC that YCAT needs. ? ?Also, if you have RTS set in the radio, then Flow Control needs to be checked.? ?If RTS is off, then Flow Control needs to be unchecked. ? ?Let me know if this helps.? ?If not, we can dig deeper and find out the root cause. Best regards, ? ? Steve - KC5NK |
Re: Serial 11 active, but no communication between YCAT and FT-891
Glen, ? ?Hook radio to PC via the USB cable. * Make sure the Yaesu drivers are installed.
*?In the Radio, set as follows:
- Operation Menu
. CAT RATE: 38400
. CAT TIME OUT TIMER: 10msec
. CAT RTS: OFF
* In YCAT:
- In Serial Comms tab:
. Yaesu CAT Port section - Set in the following order:
. Baud Rate: br38400
. Flow Control: Unchecked
. SerialPort: {Set to the enhanced port}
The application will turn the radio on if it is off. The YCAT will query the radio for settings and should match the radio. Any changes at the radio should be reflected on YCAT. Any changes in YCAT will be reflected on the radio.
