Re: GPS sync GPS to PC error messages

This is something that many people may not like is to have an application run in Administrator mode.

Microsoft makes provisions to only run in Administrator mode for specific functions.? The YCAT program is developed in the latest Embarcadero C++ Builder.? ?There are no examples of this and implementing from Microsoft recommendations failed to yield correct results in Embarcadero IDE.

I was working with ChatGPT which offered many suggestions (about 5) each with compiler errors and ultimately no compiler errors with the same results, the Win11 operating system gave an error on SetSystemTime() function.? ?It's last suggestion with this information was to run the application in Adminstrator mode.? I replied this is unacceptable solution to which it agreed!? :)

Reminds me of that old song we learned as a child:? ?"There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza!..."? ?

I did create a new ticket for this, YCAT-0106 and will try to get this one in the next release.

Thanks again for your suggestions!

Re: Messages label not saved

Yes, I think we can manage this.? ?I assigned this ticket:? ?YCAT-0105 to add the voice memory button labels when created.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Re: Radio memory loaded but no longer loaded after reopening YCAT

Eduardo,

? ?I think this is possible.? ?So when the application first starts up, or when COM port is opened, it doesn't know what radio is connected.? ?However, once the radio powers up and responds to the ID request, that would be a perfect time to load the proper file.? ?Still a margin of error (in my case - two different FT-891's) but it is better than not having everything populated.

? ?The logic to manage this is not too difficult.? I will add this to the list of new features targeted for the next release.? I assigned it ticket #? ?YCAT-0104.

Re: Messages label not saved

Understood. I was being naive to assume everyone have one radio like me. LOL
So the "user profile" suggestion I posted on another thread might also be a good idea in this scenario. Maybe?

Re: GPS sync GPS to PC error messages

OK sounds good. While I have internet (not in a field) I can still use the internet to keep the clock in-sync specially for digital modes.
Of course there are other tools that allow me to use the GPS dongle to sync the local clock but if YCAT can do it automatically would be cool!
I will test running it as administrator. Perhaps others might want to chime in about the service running. I vote yes.

Re: Radio memory loaded but no longer loaded after reopening YCAT

Hi Steve
I understand it since you brought up a good point. Many users have more than one radio so auto-loading the memory at start-up even if from the local hard drive file, might not be a good idea.
In this case, perhaps creating an "user profile" where all configuration and customization settings would reside might resolve the manual work for both scenarios (single or multiple radios).
For instance, after configuring all parameters, I would "save" it all under my user profile. If I had more than one radio, I could possibly name or rename each profile by the radio model.
Is this a good idea?

Re: Messages label not saved

Eduardo,

? ?For this feature, you are correct, they are not saved.? ?This was something I thought about and struggled with.? ?I run on my laptop and have one radio on my desk (FT-891, FT-710, or FT-dx10).?

? ?I do try to use the buttons with say:? ?1- KC5NK (my call);? 2-QSL;? 3: CQ KC5NK;? ?4:? CQ POTA, etc.

? ?The problem might be that on one radio, the label doesn't match what is in the radio.? ?The button labels aren't available in any of the radios.? ?

? ?We could make an assumption that you will only use the program with one radio, then the labels could easily be saved and recalled at power up.? ?If we can accept that assumption, we could make the change to save the text of the buttons.

? ? Would love to hear what others think as well.? ?The change is simple.? ?Or if there are other recommendations, then we could go from there.

? ? I could read/save the configuration based on the radio hooked up at startup (i.e. - FT-891).? ?If the radio type matches at startup with the file updated at YCAT termination or last saved, then load the button captions from the file.? ? Too bad we didn't have access to radio type and serial number.? ?That would be definitive!? :)

Re: GPS sync GPS to PC error messages

Eduardo,

? ?This is something I have been working with for some time.? ?Even used ChatGPT a couple days ago.? ?The net result is, for now, if you want the GPS to time sync the PC clock, you will need to run the application as Administrator.? ?Many people do not like to do this.? ?The solution will likely be to install a service with YCAT that runs in Admin mode to sync the clock when called by YCAT.

? ?Still working on this, but that is how to leverage the clock sync with GPS functionality.

Best regards,
? ? Steve

Re: Radio memory loaded but no longer loaded after reopening YCAT

Eduardo,

? ?They are still in the radio.? ?You could click the "Fetch Radio Memory" button to recall from the radio.? ?I opted not to read them at power up because of the time it takes to fetch them.

? ?If it reads from memory at startup, the radio will not be in the same condition as it was when the radio / app is turned off.? ?I worried about reading from a file to initialize the application however there is no guarantee that the radio has the same program in it as the application.? ?I have several radios I use the software with.

? ?How would you like to see it work?

Best regards,

Radio memory loaded but no longer loaded after reopening YCAT

I got YCAT (on Windows 10) to read my radio memory. Loaded fine into YCAT from my FT-891.
I also saved the file from YCAT. After closing and re-opening the program, all memories in YCAT were blank again. I then loaded them from the file I previously saved.

Is this expected behavior?

GPS sync GPS to PC error messages

I'm running the evaluation copy on Windows 10 and the radio is Yaesu FT-891.
The GPS USB unit works well and YCAT populates my GRID information also LAT and LON automatically.

When I select the radial box "Sync GPS to PC" an error message is presented in the logs window:
" ... Failed GPS to PC Sync".

Looking for advice.

Eduardo

Messages label not saved

Good program and I am enjoying it!
While in the evaluation copy (day 1) - I explored the messages tab since I do have 5 pre-recorded messages in FT-891.
So I proceeded to create labels for each one of them.

I closed the program to look into a code in flrig and later opened YCAT again. All custom labels were back to default: message1, message2.. et cetera.
Is this normal because I am running an evaluation copy?
Please advise.

Eduardo

Glenn,

? ?Did the application perform to your expectations and do you like it?

? ?The application when you start it gives you an option to purchase.? ?If you like it, purchase it and you can install on up to 3 pc's.? ?

? ? You may need to reconfigure the serial ports.? ?The purchased product is the same EXE as the 30-day trial version.? ?

My trial license expired.? To busy with many things.? I'm quite sure that my radio, cable and pc port is all working since it works with the HRD software.?

I'm not sure where I am with this now.??

Glenn, KG7IL

Did you get any answer on your problem?? I also have an expired license for my 891 and was just looking to buy the license.??

I currently use HRD, but I am looking for a CAT with a smaller foot print to run on an older pc.?

THOROUGHLY CONFUSED

THOROUGHLY CONFUSED... Have been working with YCAT for over a month now with no issues. My trial expired so I bought the license. After the usual installation process, the software refuses to talk to the radio. COM Port, baud rate, etc. are properly set. My Win4Yaesu installation works perfectly telling me that the connectivity is good. When I set the COM Port Baud Rate and Flow Control in YCAT, the letters/numbers are a bright shade of white while the Reset button is greyed out. If I close and restart YCAT, the settings entered revert to the default. How do I fix that? In starting/restarting several times, the words "Yaesu" and "FT891:Inactive" appear randomly at the bottom left of the screen. Is the software supposed to Auto Detect the radio type? Don't get me wrong; I really like the software. Just confused what happened between trial version and licensed version. Thanks for any assistance, Steve KH6CT

Re: Third Party Software Connectivity

?Finally (if you have FTDX10 like me) I've used 2 connections from TRX - USB for YCAT and RS-232 for omnirig.
YCAT - USB, RS-232 - Omnirig -> Log4OM + SDRConsole + WSJT-X + whatever you wish
