Hello
I'm here, and fine! Busy working (on and off, more than I'd like, why can't I just retire??), grandmothering, trying to keep the home place from disintegrating around us (or flooding, or burning). Thinking about getting old and making changes - but so far, just in the thinking stage. What I haven't been doing much is knitting..for the first time in many years, I've gone weeks at a time lately without lifting knitting needles. Just thinking about swatching for a lightweight cardigan in some vintage Rowan 4-ply soft, though. How about the rest of you? I know many of us run into each other on FB and Instagram now and then and feel somewhat connected that way - I'm always happy for those glimpses of what you're up to. -Therese Thérèse Shere Freelance indexing & digital information design On Mon, Feb 13, 2023 at 7:28 PM <beryl_cathro@...> wrote: Hi everyone? |
I'm here too.? I've been mostly trapped at home since the end of September as we had both full bathrooms in our house redone.? DH and his fellow engineers used to have a joke that for time estimates you needed to halve the number and increase the increment by one step, and that was about it. My 8 week project turned into 4 1/2 months, and still lacks a few finishing details.? The recent ice storm here has just added to the fun, as we lost a few big trees, and lots of other branches. I am enjoying being a grandmother, thankful to have Tinybeans and Facetime since we are at a distance.? As we get closer to retirement we are starting to look at houses in Colorado (where Stephen grew up, and the grands and other family live). Still knitting, mostly little things, and looking forward to a lot more travel going forward. Patricia in Austin (for now)

开云体育I don’t know where to start, but thanks, Beryl, for the nudge. ? Renovations for us included replacing (finally) our well pump properly after some covid era gerryrigging that got us through. Then, the electrician to do a bunch of fiddly stuff that will make “aging in place” a little easier. Knitting is going per usual for this time of year. I am working away on fair entries (about ? of them finished or at least started and the rest (mostly) kitted). ? Kids are doing well.as are the Grands. Rowen (the oldest) is/was in LA for an Urban Rugby competition. Fiona (the baby) will be 10 in May and is in Scouts and dance. Conor (the middler) is happily doing his own thing in middle school. (He also plays Rugby and is in a drama group). Brendan (my older son) is still with the government and is talking about retiring from the Army sooner rather than later. Am I old enough to have a kid who’s retired?) ? Great to hear from a few of you.
We had a big year last year. My brother, who had only just turned 70, died in August. Complicated but he had a massive stroke while undergoing treatment (radiation & chemotherapy) for a very rare form of skin cancer. That got us thinking about our future because we both turn 75 this year. Although we’re fit & healthy we didn’t think it was wise to age in our then house as it had stairs ?& was a bit out of town with horrible traffic. So we sold up & are now in a lovely apartment near town in a retirement village with all the help & support we might (probably will!) need in the future. I’m very happy here but DH is uncomfortable being around all the old folk! Children & grandchildren are all well. Adam & his family are moving from NY city to Florence, Italy this year. They are very happy about the move & we are already planning on visiting them. On the knitting front there isn’t much going on. I’ve got a sweater for kids in Syria on the needles & plans for a couple of other projects. hugs Beryl |

progress report from snowy northern Arizona ... Happily ensconced?at home using UP my lifetime accumulation of assorted craft supplies while vicariously enjoying Lily Chin's current trip to Antartica :-) Thankful?that "world wide events" convinced me to "close up shop" three years ago and "seriously" retire ... while loving my neighborhood and tiny town so much I have no interest in travel beyond visiting my dentist of over twenty years whose office is two hours away. Feeling ever so greatFULL that my genetics have gifted me with optimism and health - other than a couple of over used finger joints ... and being a bit nostalgic as part of the over 70 Club and remembering the neighbors who "aged out" of life leaving their empty houses behind ... my current goal is to become the Oldest Person in the World and consider it a miracle my lifestyle has allowed me to get this far #LovesSugarEatsKale Spent the end of last year publishing personal manuscripts on Lulu.com because it is cheeeeep to print two copies of a book - one to wrap in plastic and one to thumb through. So very satisfying to have little books with pretty covers rather than stacks of notes! Started with a 50,000 word manuscript I had completed for NaNoWriMo ten years ago that I wanted?to read - and could not bear to tackle in the "stack of computer printed pages" version. January snows meant heading to the sewing room for a wardrobe refresh?beginning with perfecting the fitting of undergarments and refilling my drawers - as a practical (Steve Jobs boring type) dresser ... fit is first. Currently working on not being afraid to use the "good" fabric I have stacked on the shelves - trying not to look at Spoonflower AND enjoying using all the colors after years of black.? Will cycle back to knitting, crocheting, and theremin playing this summer when it is too hot to be anywhere other than sitting quietly on the front porch. THANKS to all y'all for opening a window on the wider world for me! erica - planning on making mackerel?potstickers and peanut butter cookies today :-) |

Hurrah for the Baby Grandaughter!!!? I wish you joy, all of you! I didn't check the pattern for the desired? yarn weight, and I sort of hate to endorse them, but I've had very good luck with the I Love This Yarn line from Hobby Lobby. There's a huge range of colors, and the yarn holds up well to careless laundering. Lise in NJ
