Re: Latest Ravelry kerfuffle
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThat¡¯s a really good point, Nilda. Not a great time to play with people¡¯s comfort blankies.??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ? I once met a someone who worked with a very well known potato crisp company over here. She said their R and D and marketing were always determined to ¡°improve¡± the brand, but the problem was that the core markets, the regular buyers, liked the product exactly as it was¡¡.exactly the New Coke scenario. ? You do get people who are so blinded by their own? wonderful vision that they miss the practicalities and realities of it. ? Jenny ? And oh yes, I remember Lizard Ridge. I recall this group made several spectacular ones, ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Nilda

I think part of what¡¯s going on is that people are stressed out and they turn to Ravelry and it¡¯s not cozy and familiar but jarring snd even painful and they are angry to lose a source of comfort in very awful times and to have friends lose it as well. Plus Rav clearly dropped the ball, dug in, were hostile or non-empathetic so only heightened the effect. It¡¯s easier to be upset at NuRav than deal with the world today. Not to minimize at all the real concerns and effects on many. It¡¯s like New Coke. Coke rolled it out and nearly lost the brand till they walked it all back. ?People missed the comfort of their soda. Took a few years to undo the damage but it worked. Unclear how long it takes for the Rav team.? ? I downloaded in the meantime and went back and deleted the foreign language translations. What a trip - Lizard Ridge anyone? ? Nilda
?I don¡¯t think Ravelry is going anywhere. I¡¯d be surprised if more than 1% of the users were even aware of what¡¯s happening.? ? No doubt they bungled they redesign, and people had serious issues, and the ableism on display made it far far worse. On the other hand, when Facebook it Twitter does a redesign, do the users get their complaints heard? Has there ever been a rollback to a previous design? My beloved Scrabble app was sold to a new developer who has completely ruined it and which runs blaringly loud migraine-inducing ads between each turn - but they have paid no attention to the widespread complaints from the long-time users. IMHO (or IMHOP to quote the late JunieAnn), there¡¯s a lot of pearl clutching going on. (And if you hadn¡¯t heard, sadly she did pass away).? ? Amy ?
