Re: Sea kayak

Dear rowers,

Kindly disregard my response to Jenn¡¯s advertisement for her sea kayak as I thought she¡¯d sent it to me for guidance selling online. Oops! :-(
Sorry about the crudeness.

Because YRC spacing is so tight, oars have to be stored all aligned with the same method. The racks were designed for slimmer Macon blades and the Hatchet blades being larger are too close..
If they are not store properly, they can catch the oars above or below, fall on you, pull off other oars, or hit the ground. Modern blades are expensive and delicate. Please treat them that way. Boat owners and most past members are aware of how to store the oars. Here is the YRC? protocol for those who don't know:

1. Place oars face to face ( Convex to Convex surface ) not like spoons in which the concave surfaces rest inside each other.
2. Put the Pair of Blades on alternating sides, so only one pair of Blades is on the left or right.?
3. The Top edge when rowing, IS the Top Edge in the rack; please don't put them Upside down.
4? Offset the Collars on the sleeves, so the Collars do not push the oars off the dowels.
5. Try to stay as far away from the boat hulls as possible when you re-rack,? so you do not bang into the expensive shells around you.

There are many ways to store oars, but this method has worked well for YRC. We expect to rebuild the racks for more vertical room and horizontal distance. In the meantime, if you see someone who doesn't know, or puts the oars away wrong, please tell them and show them the YRC way.? Just one set of oars placed incorrectly can cause a cascade of falling oars.?

I was in touch with Andy on another matter this week and asked him about the fish in the river this year, specifically shad. Here is his reply:

?

The shad run was not so great this year.? It was only 190K this year, which is about 140K off the long term average.? Last year wasn¡¯t so hot either, but that may have been due to wet weather, turbidity and cold temps so most of the shad stayed below Holyoke.

?

The little silver fish we see are likely the juvenile shad getting ready to head out to the ocean in October.
