In search of AM filter
4
Hi My old 1977 FT-301D never had a AM filter. I was wondering where I could find one and how to go about installing one. The filter board just has the stock CW and SSB filters. I can listen to AM shortwave stations on it but I think with the filter it would be better sounding? Fred N1DEC

Can't figure out how to respond to other comments?

Convert WWV band spot to 30M
2
A while back I ran across a PDF online detailing one ham's analysis of what it would take to convert a '301 to transceive on 10MHz. Looked in the Files section...nada. Anyone else remember seeing this? Thanks - 73 Fred, N8YX

FT-301 hacks

I ran across a funny one in one of my 301's. I am fairly certain that Yaesu did ship their radios with Trio Kenwood speakers installed.. Pic posted under funny.

Optional CW, AM filter installations
4
I thought I would post a series of pics showing various CW/AM/no optional filter installations. I was inspired to do for a couple of reasons: 1) I can't seem to find much info on performing filter installs. Perhaps someone can point me to some documentation? I can't seem to find any, unlike the FT-101, which I did find adequate installation instructions. 2) I ran across an example of what not to do. In effect paralleling the SSB and CW filters. I have no idea what this would have sounded like on transmit, but I found it on receive because I noticed that there was no difference between SSB and CW RX audio. Once I corrected it, there is now. I am still working through (fixing) all of the issues for receive on this particular rig (of which there are numerous), before I attempt to TX. I may post more info on that effort in the future. In the mean time, enjoy the pics...

L2 RF Choke
6
Does anyone know a suitable replacement for choke L2? I have a radio that I am trying to repair that has one that is burnt. The parts list in the service manual lists it as a 35 uh choke with a Yaesu part number. I found a 33 uh choke and was wondering if that is close enough in value. Thanks in advance

FT301D schematics
4
Hi All, Has anyone seen manuals that change the calibration procedure based on new versions of boards installed? Do all manuals have the same calibration instructions. I have older 301Ds with different rev boards than the newer 301Ds. If there are different manual versions could you upload them to this site? Thanks, Michael

Yaesu ft301d FOR SALE again.
3
This FT-301D is still being offered for sale. I realize shipping is more expensive so I am willing to negotiate the deal. It is boxed and ready to go. See pictures in earlier posts. Remember, the common display failure issue with these is fixed in this one with the installation of the complete replacement display board and components. 73 to all. K5INW,

Yaesu ft301d FOR SALE
7
I have an FT-301D for sale. It receives all modes all bands. This one has an 11 meter crystal in the AUX position I have the original Yaesu power cord and plug but no microphone. I see power out on RTTY and AM. I have solved the very common display burnout issue with the $200 board and parts from Elcon that completely replace the troublesome digital display failure issue. I can send pictures to you if you post here indicating an interest and give me a contact method. I'm asking $250 plus shipping but that is negotiable within reason. I have two many radios and will be liquidating them one by one. It may need some more work but lets face it, the burnout of the display segments is the biggest drawback with these and that is solved. I will check here every day for any replies. Thanks for reading 73, Bob, K5INW

Low Tune power FIX
11
I followed this helpful blog, I removed C428 and was able to get 100+ Watts of CW output on my FT-301D. Before removing C428, I was getting about 5W tune power on 10m, 15W on 15m, 35W on 20m, 30W on 40m and 25W on 75m. Peak SSB power is around 150W all bands. No CW filter in my unit. http://esorensen.com/yeasu-ft301d-restore-part-1/

No LSB or CW RX

Hi I have a FT-301D from new. Lately sometime I use it the LSB setting is dead in RX and TX on all bands USB is ok AM is ok. I also think CW is dead in RX but seems ok in TX. Then another day it works ok. Where should I start looking? I cleaned all the plug-in boards and switches. Thanks Fred N1DEC

Calibration off by 2.5 khz. need help.
10
My calibration adjustment is maxed out but the display is 2.5 khz off . what should I look for to repair this. Is there a adjustment inside other than the small knob on the outside? Would the 5 volt supply to the display cause this? Is there a way to compensate for the error? Thanks, Robert KH2BR

Help please. RL1 , T/R relay energizes when attaching 100 watt amp.
2
Amp connector pin 4 (tx13.5) goes high to 13.5 volts when attaching a known good amp. Pin 4 on bad radio measures 45 ohms to ground and on the good radio, it measures 7k ohms to ground. there is no voltage on pin 4 with the amp disconnected. this is causing t/r switch RL1 to energize. I replaced RL1. that did not correct the problem. The radio will operate normally with the amp disconnected. What would cause T/R to go high when connecting the amp??? I have been working on this for days and just can't comprehend why TX would go high. I should probably look for why I am getting 45 ohms to ground. has anyone experienced this? Robert KH2BR

VFO Issues-solved
Removing and reseating plug in boards and a de-oxit treatment of switches and controls has cured the issue! Next thing is checking why output power is a little low. I am showing about 85 watts cw on all bands. KL7AM

VFO Issues
2
I have a 301D with the outboard VFO and neither vfo seems to function, I haven't found a schematic that shows how the external vfo output is switched into the radio. Is anybody familiar with vfo issues with this rig? It doesn't seem reasonable that both vfo's are faulty. The radio seems to function normally otherwise. I am unable to hear the vfo working on a receiver with a test loop or measure any output on a scope. KL7AM
