Low Tune power FIX

Edited

I followed this helpful blog, I removed C428 and was able to get 100+ Watts of CW output on my FT-301D. ?Before removing C428, I was getting about 5W tune power on 10m, 15W on 15m, 35W on 20m, 30W on 40m and 25W on 75m. Peak SSB power is around 150W all bands. No CW filter in my unit.

Hi,

Drifting out of spec xtals are typical, Ive had to do the same on others boards as well. This is good input for others trying to fix their FT301s, thanks. There is a company in the Netherlands that has most of the xtals in the 301, Ive purchased a few resurrecting other 301s. CW and SSB filters drift as well since they have xtals inside that have drifted. These filters can be reworked and xtals replaced.

Michael

I followed this helpful blog, I removed C428 and was able to get 100+ Watts of CW output on my FT-301D. Note: ?After removing C428 from the IF board, it tested 19.8uF on my B&K capacitor check. It is supposed to be 33uF +/- 10%. It has aged but lost value. Before removing C428, I was getting about 5W tune power on 10m, 15W on 15m, 35W on 20m, 30W on 40m and 25W on 75m. Where is this blog?

I have a 500 Hz CW filter that has quit working due to age. It failed to pass the CW Tune signal so I took it out of the FT-301. It is an International Crystals filter.

Thanks for sharing this FT-301d restore post.
I have a FT-301 under the workbench that needs restoration
and learning alot from Eric Sorensen's content.

I do not found C428 at IF board.?
The C428 is 39p.

The IF board schematic shows C428 present next to the CW Oscillator crystal and trimmer. Schematic shows a 39pF, but the cap I removed had 33K stamped on it.?

My schematic shows 33pf. The parts list shows 39pf. Looks like it is across the 20pf. Trimmer cap for the 8999.3khz crystal.?
