Re: Help please. RL1 , T/R relay energizes when attaching 100 watt amp.

I will put my notes here for trouble shooting.

J10 good radio.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? bad radio.
pin 3-4? ?7.6 k? ohms? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?103 ohms? ? ? ? ? ? ??
pin 4 to ground. 51 ohms? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 54 ohms? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Pin 3 to ground.? 7.6 k ohms? ? ? ? ? ? ?49 ohms? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Help please. RL1 , T/R relay energizes when attaching 100 watt amp.

Edited

Amp connector pin 4 (tx13.5) goes high to 13.5 volts when attaching a known good amp.
Pin 4 on bad radio measures 45 ohms to ground and on the good radio, it measures 7k ohms to ground.
there is no voltage on pin 4 with the amp disconnected.?
this is causing t/r switch RL1 to energize.
I replaced RL1. that did not correct the problem.
The radio will operate normally with the amp disconnected.
What would cause T/R to go high when connecting the amp???
I have been working on this for days and just can't comprehend why TX would go high.
I should probably look for why I am getting 45 ohms to ground.
has anyone experienced this?

Need 301 knob

Need one front panel knob such as used on the band switch and others

Re: VFO Issues-solved

Removing and reseating plug in boards and a de-oxit treatment of switches and controls has cured the issue!
Next thing is checking why output power is a little low. I am showing about 85 watts cw on all bands.

I would look closely at the VFO/EXT function switch and wiring for continuity. ?

Re: Calibration off by 2.5 khz. need help.

Well, I have all the crystals on frequency and still have a counter calibration error. It is less, like 1.7 khz with the pot turned all the way to the left.
the marker frequency is spot on. that leaves the counter mixer and there is a crystal frequency adjustment inside. There are no instructions on how to make the adjustment. the crystal frequency is 18.5 mhz. I can change that frequency by -3khz on one side of the pot adjustment to +1.7 khz on the high side.

So, how would we do this adjustment ? 1- turn marker on.? 2- dial in 7.2 mhz, lower side band .? 3- set cal pot to mid range.? 4- zero beat marker signal.
at this point the display should be off frequency.? ?5- with a insulated hard plastic tool, adjust tc2201 in counter mixer display to 7.2 mhz.

It worked so far, I need to check the other bands !!

Re: Calibration off by 2.5 khz. need help.

If it’s any help, I recall having to change a trimmer capacitor to a series cap. instead of parallel to pull a crystal which had aged out of limits. Extra parallel capacity will pull it down, series will move it up. Eventually of course the crystal will run out of steam and stop oscillation.

It looks to me as there are trimmer caps for the band crystals?

schematic shows calibration pot as 5 k. It measures 4.88k. ..? resistor R14 to ground? schematic shows 1k, I see? marked 820 ohms and measure 798 ohms ..
resistor on top side of pot? R15 schematic shows 33k I see and measure 2.7k
there is 5 volts at the top of resistor R15. calibration pot center tap needs a little more voltage to move counter 2.5khz.

Any suggestions ???? I could replace R15 with 2k ohms .. ???? the 33k could be a mistake in the schematic..? can others verify ??

Re: Calibration off by 2.5 khz. need help.

On the front of the radio there is an adjustment pot and it is maxed out all the way to the left. That pot works.

I don't know of any adjustment for that inside of the radio.

Did the VFO pot adjustment work Bob? Gene

My calibration adjustment is maxed out but the display is 2.5 khz off . what should I look for to repair this.

Is there a adjustment inside other than the small knob on the outside? Would the 5 volt supply to the display cause this?

Is there a way to compensate for the error?

Thanks, Robert KH2BR

Have you found any possible cause?? Mine didn't do it until I pulled the LED board out.? Found out I didn't need to do that to change the LED's as they're socketed (unfortunately I found out AFTER pulling it!).

Hi Forest.? I'll try that.? Any idea about the freq not changing all of a sudden after I replaced the readout board?? And do you know the Ebay sellers ID of the fellow in Italy that had the replacement assemblies for sale?? I can't find anything about him.? Thanks.

Re: From bad to worse

Try adjusting the VFO (triggering) resistor in the VFO compartment. It’s a small pot that will stabilize the readout frequency. My readout kept flickering at the tenths of kHz and this adjustment fixed it.
