YAAC Email

Hi All, I thought I sent out this message before, but never saw it on the groups messages..?
Anyway, trying to get the email working for YAAC, but don't seem to be able to figure it out without an assist.? I have an account with winlink, but I get a response when sending an email that says? "invalid login challenge response" it looks like the sequence number is there, but not sure if I need to add the password to the YAAC program somewhere?? 73 Brad N8YG |
YAAC is an APRS client. Winlink is a different protocol. You will need to use a WinLink compatible client to connect to a WinLink node or process traffic.

开云体育There is (or was) a crude APRS-to-Winlink gateway once upon a time. I'm not sure if it is still working, and whether or not its interface protocol over APRS has changed since I wrote the APRS-Winlink client screen in YAAC.Andrew, KA2DDO author of YAAC -------- Original message --------

What little I know is that there once was a way to send to winlink.. without a password.. now I think they want part of your password or something like that interlinked with the sequence number ..whatever... it looks like it's not working.. so good to know. I'll quit trying..:-) Thanks? Brad N8YG

My bad. Learn something new every day. Never noticed that before. I asked previously about sending email via APRS and was told it was obsolete.

I just thought I was going crazy.. ok, at least only partly crazy..

Email Obsolete?? Perhaps, but I am just getting my feet wet with APRS after a long sleep from Packet Radio in the 80s. 73 Brad N8YG

Yet again I stumble. I meant sending WINLINK email via APRS is what I was told was obsolete. There is a way to send generic email via APRS. I just do not know the details. I think my son got it working, I will consult with him.

Please let us know.? Several folks said it as working last week so this could be a process down or a change in the Winlink system. On Tue, Mar 17, 2020 at 8:37 PM Michael WA7SKG <wa7skg@...> wrote: Yet again I stumble. I meant sending WINLINK email via APRS is what I |
开云体育Unless things have changed, you can send (not receive!) email from an APRS client by sending a message to EMAIL-2, with a message consisting of the email address, a space, and the message text.? Keep it short (single packet!), and don't expect a reply (it's one direction).? But it worked for me last time I tried it.? Came in really handy some years ago when my wife and I were on a vacation and found ourselves at a beautiful B&B on the coast in the middle of a cell phone black hole.? No bars (the RF kind).?? But APRS worked, and we were able to let our kids know that we arrived safely and would call them the next day.? I did this from the front panel of my Kenwood TH-D7AG, which was a thousand button presses.? I expect you can do the same in seconds from YAAC simply by sending a message and typing it out.You can also send an SMS message to a phone with the SMS Gateway.? Message to SMSGTE, with the text being an "@" followed by the phone number (including area code, numbers only), a space, and the message.? This one is bi-directional, though the initial message must come from the Ham station. The issue with WLNK-1 is that a few years ago they implemented a security handshake (password verification exchange) as part of the connection sequence.? My compliments to whoever came up with the idea; it's a very creative way to do a reasonably secure handshake over an unencrypted link.? It can be done by hand (I've done it), but the timeout is rather short, so it's fussy to do typing from a keyboard-based client, and essentially impossible from an HT.? If Andrew's code hasn't been updated do that handshake, it won't work. Greg? KO6TH Michael WA7SKG wrote:

开云体育EMAIL-2 can be bi-directional if you
know the proper incantations and formats.? See the bottom half
of the following web page:

Since Winlink is broken can EMAIL-2 be substituted in the interface?? And is Winlink really broken?? I see the messages back and forth as just a failed login to send. Ronny K4RJJ On Wed, Mar 25, 2020 at 12:21 PM Lynn Deffenbaugh <kj4erj@...> wrote:
