Another possible issue is that the windowing graphics library is not always highly responsive, so the redrawing of the blinkenlight from red to black might be delayed until the library or graphics driver decides to repaint that widget. I have seen issues (usually when scrolling) when part of the scrolled window doesn't update immediately.

For AGWPE ports, I had to put in a timer to guess when the blinkenlight should stop being red, because the TCP socket connection can send the packet to AGWPE/DireWolf/Soundmodem/etc. far faster than the software TNC can actually send the packet out to RF, such that you would never see the blinkenlight as red (less than a millisecond to forward the packet to the TNC). Maybe the timer is incorrect, so it's holding it red _longer_ than it should be. I'll look into it.
