Re: TNC-Pi9K6 - Anyone having success with this TNC?

Thank you for the hints.

All of the mentioned is checked several times ?
But seems like I have found the solution now.

I had to set baudrate in YAAC to 19200. I tried with 1200 at first.
So I guess 19200 is used between RPi and the TNC.
I also enabled the TNC2 "KISS ON xxxxx" Setting, but I am not sure if it's needed. Will have to do some more tests.

First question is:

What packet baud rate do you have configured? Normal APRS is at 1200 baud using Bell 202 modem tones. If your TNC-Pi9K6 isn't set for that (such as being set for 9600 baud G3RUH modem signals), it won't understand anybody else's packets. Note the TNC-Pi9K6 documentation says that the device is configured for 9600 baud operation by default when it's newly setup. You have to change its parameters to use 1200 baud modem signals.

Secondly, is the TNC-Pi9K6 configured to work over the serial port or the I2C connection? YAAC doesn't support the I2C connection, so make sure it is set for serial and specify the correct serial port device to YAAC.

Thirdly, have you enabled the Pi serial port, and disabled console logins on it? If the serial port is not enabled, the device won't appear in the /dev directory. If the port is enabled for logins, it won't be available to YAAC because it will be tied up by the login daemon. Note that the serial port name varies, depending on whether you are using a Pi2, Pi3, or Pi4.

Fourthly, did you set the JP1 jumper on the TNC-Pi9K6 to use the correct receive audio source (1200 baud or 9600 baud discriminator tap)?

Hope this helps.

Subject: [yaac-users] TNC-Pi9K6 - Anyone having success with this TNC?

Hello,

I have a PiGate, and the setup (TNC, Radio and cable) works well. Have made a new image now and installed YAAC. But I am not able to use the Pi9k6. I don't get any APRS messages when trying with the serial monitor. When using the pitnc_getparams I am able to read configuration from the TNC.
Tried now with a USB/RS-232 adapter and an old Kantronics KAM, and everything works.

Guess there must be a setting I have missed.

Any hints?!
