Sounds like a switch bounce issue. Without specs on the?new encoders I can only guess. I am curious as to why the de-bounce caps have to be changed out? You could try changing out U6 and U13.? These are 74LS14 chips. (74HC14 will work fine).? They are available from digi-key and cost very little money.? I have found this fixes a lot of troublesome encoders on Xpanders/M12s ? Best ? Karl ? hey does anyone know why the new encoders i had put in would settle (click) on even or odd numbers?
you can see the in-between numbers as you turn them but they won't click on 1,2,3,4,5,6. with a little fiddling you can get them to change from odd/even , so it's not a total disaster but they are certainly not working as they should and it's frustrating. i spoke with syntaur and they were extremely helpful but we still are in the dark. thanks for any help-

Re: 240v and 120v Xpander (for European users)
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWhat a story !
I work w/ an Xpander as 1st owner since I buyed it new in 1987 replacing my OB-8 then. Never had probs working in studios or touring international w/ it,- never had tuning problems til today and it sounds still good all day. Tactswitches replaced, encoders cleaned and some caps in PSU replaced ... Its a workhorse since 26 years,- well ... :-) P. Am 26.09.2013 21:59, schrieb Jeremy Smith:

240v and 120v Xpander (for European users)
Hi folks,
A few years ago, I bought my Xpander from America and imported it to the UK. I noticed soon after buying it that the synth sounds better in 120v mode. I just want to recommend to anyone with tuning problems, in a country @ 240v, tries the Xpander in 120v mode with a stepdown transformer of some kind. EG: But always make sure you set the switch at the back correctly, or a 240v plugged into a 120v xpander would blow the fuse (though you can get the fuses cheap from Maplin). I take no responsibility if this happens. Cheers, Jeremy. |
Xpander 'best sound' webpage [explanation]
Sorry everyone. I'll explain what my post is about.
I was worrying that my Xpander wasn't working properly. This video: References the Lowphase patch which can be got here: So I got a common patch everyone can use, and compared it to the YouTube page. You play a 4-note chord which is (I think) C E G C I'm so glad my Xpander is sounding as good as the sound on that YouTube page. And with this webpage I'll set up soon, people will be able to compare their Xpander to other people's. Cheers, Jeremy. |

Hi,
I want to service my Xpander, then maybe sell it. Google shows no repair shops. Does anyone have the URL of a servicing/repair shop for the Xpander? Preferably one in the UK. Thanks, Jeremy. |
Re: Buzzing Xpander transformer
i believe you could do something similar to what people do with tx81z's that hum. something about a little hot glue or silicone on the part that vibrates to dampen the mechanical noise. z ? ? this is normal. most if not all?Xpanders have the buzz. someone else here may know of a way to make it quieter. On Monday, August 26, 2013, wrote:

Re: Xpander vs Reason
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýGood question. ?I think Thor is fantastic and the modulation possibilities actually exceed the Xpander in some ways... i.e. use of Matrix sequencers, tons of Rack Extensions concentrating on modulations and the like... Also some great new synths as Rack Extensions.... ?e.g. Antidote... I love the ease of use of patching cables to CV inputs and outputs... I have a Matrix 12 and think there is something about that particular tone that can't be replicated... ?but its not better just different... To: xpantastic@... From: jeremy@... Hi folks,
I've been listening to Futurecop recently. I hear they use Reason, and they use it very well. So how does Reason compare with the hardware Xpander? My opinion is that Reason doesn't sound quite as good, but Futurecop just put it to better use. Thanks, Jeremy |
Re: Sustain Pedal
No !
You have to assign a "pedal" to MIDI controller 64 and then program each patch, the pedal modulating an amp-envelope parameter, sustain level or release time p.ex.. Have in mind any out of the existing envelopes might modulate the/a VCA in a given patch,- so investigating the patches is a good idea. P. |
