Re: How to make snappy bass on Xpander ?
Even Andromeda strikes with a fast envelope. And sounds very close to a Voyager sometimes.
Andromeda's envelopes are also software. Maybe a modern faster processor controller do the thing. But I've heard in a demo called some really nice percussiveness. Hosted here. How is it done. ? Very interesting... |
Re: How to make snappy bass on Xpander ?
开云体育No.
Xpander/Matrix-12 has software generated modifiers (LFOs, ENVs, VCAs) being too lame for percussive attack (bass) sounds. Its the weak point of these machines. You get the modulation capabilities and multimode filters for that price. Xpander & Minimoog D here too b.t.w. ... :-) Am 31.03.2014 19:40, schrieb leo-666@...:

How to make snappy bass on Xpander ?
Maybe somebody can post a guideline how to make more snappier bass sounds on Xpander.
Standard aproach like Saw Wave with Filter ADSR zero attack, short decay, zero sustain and release does not work quite like I want to hear it. Of course I have a minimoog here and I can get an outstanding result in 5 seconds, but I want to know, maybe this crazy modulation matrix on Xp can help to manage this ? |
Re: Xpander: How do you remove the matte finish
Quite accidentally, I removed the matte finish partly on my Matrix-12.? I had to clean off some of the foam from the road case which had adhered to the surface.? I used denatured alcohol which removed the stuck on foam, but removed the matte finish as well.? It did take a bit of "elbow grease" to get it all off however.
BTW:? I was going to sell my Matrix-12 soon, but was worried about lost value because the finish had been removed.? I am surprised some people prefer their instrument that way. |
Re: How do you pan your Xpander voices
开云体育No go because thats 7 voices :-)
In single patch mode, when I play the Xpander as a poly synth,- I have 2 voices in center and pan the others to L2, L1 and R1, R2. In multipatch mode there are more options. Think about a 5 voice poly synth plays chords and theres a mono synth for leads or a bass sound. In that case, the mono synth (1 voice) goes to a single out and the other 5 voices will be panned p.ex. L2,L1,C,R1,R2. I also prefer not to use the extreme L & R settings. Another idea is using the main stereo- and main mono-out simultaneously. You can also use the main mono out as a send to an effects device (and/or have that sound in the center) while using the main stereo outs for the voice panning. And when you have a monophonic patch running on a separate MIDI channel theres still the option to use one of the single outputs in addition and add dedicated FX there. So, dont forget the single outs of the Xpander which are extremely helpful when in multi patch mode. Am 21.12.2013 02:35, schrieb endofcommon@...:

Re: How do you pan your Xpander voices
开云体育that's only possible with the Matrix-12. Only way to do it with the Xpander is to create 6 variations of the same patch, each slightly detuned and assign them accordingly in multi-mode. Not as optimal, but it gets the same result. -omar --- sent from iPhone On Dec 20, 2013, at 4:10 PM, endofcommon@... wrote:

Would be nice if you could fine detune in the Multi tune page don't you think ?

Re: How do you pan your Xpander voices
开云体育also keep in mind that your voice pan settings also effects what type of sound you are using the Xpander for and how it will play into your mix. (eg...synth bass usually mono-centered, pads, arpeggios, etc being panned in a number of ways to get the space and dimension you want in your mix) the point being: don't feel that your pan settings have to be a hard set rule for all patches. set them accordingly for the specific sound you are tracking or using for the particular song you are writing. Obviously things can be fixed/corrected/change during mixdown, but always best to get it right straight from the synth itself. the Xpander gets very interesting when used as a monophonic synth for percussion, arpeggios, or other "plucky" type sounds and you set your zones to rotate in combination with setting each voice to a different pan setting. you get instant "ping-pong" type panning effects as each voice plays in succession. -omar --- sent from iPhone On Dec 20, 2013, at 2:04 PM, endofcommon@... wrote:

Re: How do you pan your Xpander voices
does seem key to have 1 or 2 middle voices in there and does not seem to mess up the beautiful stereo spread as all.

I have experimented with L1, L2, R1, R2 a bit but still seem to have the L/R voices hard panned. (-) On Dec 20, 2013, at 9:42 AM, Omar Torres wrote:

Re: How do you pan your Xpander voices
开云体育I've always tried to get an even spread. with one or two voices sitting center and the rest gradually going L or R.? you want at least one voice center so that you get better pan law definition. -omar --- sent from iPhone On Dec 20, 2013, at 9:18 AM, endofcommon@... wrote:

Re: Emulating OB 4 Voice Rotate Mode on Xpander
Thanks for your help, The Xpander is so good in single mode, ?sometimes we forget how powerful it can be in Multi mode.

Re: Emulating OB 4 Voice Rotate Mode on Xpander
开云体育:p, that's what I said in my first email. "set your zones to rotate". if you want each voice to trigger a different patch setting, then switch to "multi" mode and select a different patch for each voice slot. multi-mode combined with zone rotate gives you exactly what you explained you're after. To emulate the 4 voice programmer ?you also want to set each ?Zone Mode to Rotate. Make sure each zone is on the same channel in MIDI/CV. Anyone have a Good Lyle Mays style thick SEM patch btw ? (-) On Dec 15, 2013, at 12:27 AM, Omar Torres wrote:

Re: Emulating OB 4 Voice Rotate Mode on Xpander
开云体育then just follow the same steps I provided, but instead use multi-mode and select a different patch for each of the first 4 voices.? -o On Dec 14, 2013, at 11:53 PM, endofcommon@... wrote:

Re: Emulating OB 4 Voice Rotate Mode on Xpander
Not quite, The 4 Voice rotates through the 4 SEMS in Rotate mode on its programmer, one vice at time, and you can have different or slight different patches on each SEM, thats more what I am after on the Xpander than the actual 4 voice thing, is rotating through 4 or 6 different patches. Cheers.
