? Studies have shown that Cluster Grouping can benefit every student in a school. Join us to learn more about how it could work in your school to address both excellence and equity. Both parents and educators are encouraged to learn more! Session 1 - Tuesday, May 21: Success in Cluster Grouping: How to Make it Work! Many schools aspire to implement cluster grouping for gifted services, yet success in this endeavor remains elusive for many. In this session, Dr. Brulles will delve into the inherent challenges of cluster grouping and offer strategies for overcoming common obstacles. Participants will gain insights into creating fair and equitable systems for serving gifted students by integrating cluster grouping into school and district initiatives. Topics covered will include student placements, supporting cluster teachers, effective teaching methodologies, monitoring success, and fostering community and staff support. Session 2 - Tuesday, May 28: Cluster Grouping Using Building Norms Increases Diversity and Inclusion! Cluster grouping, coupled with universal screening and building norms, has emerged as a leading approach to gifted education. Dr. Brulles will explore how this model enhances diversity and inclusion in gifted services. Attendees will learn methods for developing and supporting gifted cluster grouping to ensure equitable placements and teacher support, thereby enfranchising all students who could benefit from gifted services. Dr. Brulles is the Gifted Master’s Program Coordinator at Arizona State University and has received numerous accolades for her contributions to gifted education, including the NAGC Anne Isaacs Award for Distinguished Service. Her extensive bibliography includes seminal works such as "The Cluster Grouping Handbook" and "Teaching Gifted Kids in Today’s Classrooms." Dr. Kimberly Lansdowne will join Dr Brulles for the second session. Dr. Lansdowne is the founding Executive Director of the Herberger Young Scholars Academy at Arizona State University and brings a wealth of experience in teaching and administration within gifted education. Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) is offering a
chat with Jennie Tian on Nervous System Care for 2e and Gifted
Individuals.
The session will explore how the nervous system works, how being
stuck in survival mode impacts it, and how to care for those
gifted with sensitivity.
Jennie Tian is a neurodivergent, Chinese-American woman with a
trauma history, who strives? to make the world safer for people
left behind by our mental health care systems.
It is Tuesday, May 7th at 4PM Pacific Time. The session will not
be recorded.

ORS 340 BackgroundOregon Revised Statute 340 governs college credit in the high school. During the 2023 Legislative Session it was revised to eliminate redundancy and clarify expectations for college credit in the high school programs. The Oregon Department of Education will draft potential Oregon Administrative Rules governing college credit in high school.? These draft rules will be presented for consideration of adoption to the State Board of Education.?? With the FY25 Federal Budget beginning to take shape, NAGC is asking you to contact your Senators and ask them to sign the that is circulating in the U.S. Senate. The deadline to sign the letter is April 24. was recently funded at $16.5 million in the FY24 Federal Budget and is the only federal funding dedicated to gifted and talented education. Like many federally funded education programs, Javits is in danger of receiving significant cuts in next year’s budget. Now is the time to act and advise your Senators to support gifted education. Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) is offering an
opportunity to hear from Deirdre V. Lovecky, Ph.D on her book Different
Minds: Gifted Children With ADHS, ASD and Other Dual
Exceptionalities.? The virtual event is Tuesday April 9th
from 4:00 to 5:30 pm Pacific Time.? Dr. Lovecky is a clinical
child psychologist specializing in services for children and their
families. Located in Providence RI, she directs the Gifted
Resource Center of New England.? She currently is writing a Blog

Federal updates from the NAGC
From the NAGC:
Legislative Updates ? I'm happy to report that the Javits Gifted and Talented Act was level-funded for FY24 at $16.5 million. Given the current divide in Congress and House Republicans' proposal to eliminate all Javits funding, this was the best-case outcome. ? President Biden released his the other week, which asks for $16.5 million for Javits grants next year as well. Overall, the president's budget request proposes a 4% increase for the Department of Education. ? The ACE Act was introduced last November and we are still actively asking advocates to contact their Members of Congress and ask them to co-sponsor this bill. ? to CEC's action center to easily contact your legislators and ask them to co-sponsor the ACE Act.

? ? Too many students view community service simply as an activity they need to check off for college. ? And for a majority of students, they check that box by volunteering as a tutor. ? That's an important contribution, especially if students enjoy teaching. ? But students should also take the time to find community service more directly related to their interests -- and less common than tutoring. ? Not only will this make their service more meaningful and interesting to them, it will help them build a resume that will stand out to college admissions readers. ?
