Re: tuning 2m / 70cm with R1CBU

Richard,
Oleg implemented the 2m and 70am feature for those who have an external transverter /g/xiegu-x6100/topic/102861343
The hardware in the X6100 covers only HF/50MHz.

tuning 2m / 70cm with R1CBU

I installed the wicknix build of R1CBU (thank you both!) and noticed that the radio will happily tune up to the 2m and 70 cm bands.? Does the radio support that internally?? I cannot hear anything there on the X6100, while at same time hearing on a regular 2m/70cm radio on same frequency.
?
Related, has there been any progress on adding CTCSS support to X6100?? We have some 6m repeaters hereabouts, also.
?
Thanks,
Richard KK7JAW

I can try. I'll keep poking around the source code and see if i can spot it. No promises though.

New x6100 user - a few questions

x6100 latest Xiegu firmware installed.
?
  1. If you have high SWR, and auto-tune - does the radio protect itself from transmitting/tuning with too much reflected power? ?How far out does the SWR need to be before there's a problem? ?I use a nanoVNA, and always get to 1.5:1 or less, but there's always the chance what the nanoVNA sees isn't what the radio sees, and would like to make sure I don't fry the transmit side of things.
  2. While the XPA125B amp seems nice and takes care of several things - just curious if anyone has used some other amp - and what results you've had? ?
r1cbu firmware questions - version x6100_gui-0.29.2:
  1. I haven't done anything yet - I'll wait for a while before attempting to do anything - is there a "complete" manual somewhere other than the wiki? ?I understand some of the buttons now have new features - is there a "cheat sheet" of what the buttons do when the r1cbu firmware is operating?
  2. I see there's an option for a GPS - but no mention of which GPS dongles are compatible. ?I've got one from a few years back that had some issues connecting - and it seems others have had issues - so which dongles work? ?I'm asking, as the ones that work with this setup (correct drivers within the OS image) may be more difficult to find in the future - might as well get one now and have on hand.

I think it might come down to SD card brands? I find my sandisk branded cards at times need to be written to twice to actually work. Random other misc brand cards work the first time. Anyway, thanks, and hope you enjoy the changes. :)

Re: x6100 Com ports not seen on my PCs.

If you have the chance to try it with Linux (or know a friend who runs Linux and try to connect to the dev port), we can try to rule out Windows vs the hardware (USB cables, X6100 USB connector, etc).
In Linux the moment you connect that USB cable to your PC you should see several new messages (use 'sudo dmesg -T' to see them) similar to these:
?

Once it is connected, you can also run the command 'lsusb', and in the output you should see a couple of lines like these:

Hope this helps,

Re: Color modified v0.29.2 x6100_gui and sdcard.img

Wouldn't load at first. Downloaded latest Balena and imaged with no problem. ( Outdated Balena)? Anyway, can't wait for the bands to get better to really try it out. From what I see on the waterfall, it'll really look nice. Thanks for your work on updating the colors. 73!

Re: x6100 Com ports not seen on my PCs.

As mentioned, you need to use the cable that came with the radio connected to the DEV port. Also in my experience win10/11 are problematic as they seem to keep silently replacing the installed driver with a Microsoft supplied driver. Once i grabbed an old laptop and installed win7 on it i was able to connect just fine. It could have been that i was running win10/11 in a virtual machine on Linux, or it was just win10/11 being dumb. Either way i couldn't get win10/11 to work. Win7 connected to omnirig + HDSDR without issue.

Re: Buildroot 2025.02 for R1CBU/R2RFE firmware

No issues. Rebuilt my color mod sdcard.img with it. Thanks!

Re: Color modified v0.29.2 x6100_gui and sdcard.img

Ok, since buildroot 2025.02 is now available (thanks Franco!), i rebuilt my sdcard.img again using that. In this version i also added Midnight Commander. This makes ssh sessions tons easier. If you aren't familiar with it, it's a text mode dual pane file manager and editor. Once you ssh in to your x6100 just type mc to launch it. More info and documentation on it is found . Download updated sdcard.img .

Re: x6100 Com ports not seen on my PCs.

Latest news.
Not having any success with cables or software drivers my hope went to a bad solder joint on the USB connector.
Wouldn't be the first time.
I did open the radio and found no problem with the soldering.
I am at loss. Aside from the "DEV" connection everything else works great and I still love the radio.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

Re: Color modified v0.29.2 x6100_gui and sdcard.img

- buildroot is the base Linux distribution (i.e. linux kernel, u-boot bootloader, plus a ton of other programs and utilities) that these SD card images use. buildroot is currently at version 2025.02 ()
- x6100-gui is the application written by Oleg and Georgy (and modified by wicknix to use different colors) as the user interface with the X6100; this is the application that displays the controls, the frequency, the waterfall, etc and that you interact with when you use your X6100. x6100-gui is currently at version 0.29.2 ()

Re: Color modified v0.29.2 x6100_gui and sdcard.img

Great stuff. It's my go to. Thanks! One question though, is there a difference between 29.2 and 2025.02? Getting a bit confused by all the FW variations.

Color modified v0.29.2 x6100_gui and sdcard.img

I originally posted about this in the buildroot 2024.11 thread, but figured it'd soon get buried as new versions of buildroot come to light. Anyway, i wasn't a fan of some of the default colors. Was hard on my eyes at times. This is not part of upstream, or official. It's just my personal build that i built using Franco's 2024.11 buildroot that i'm sharing in case others want to give it a try. This is my 3rd and last color revision. There won't be any more changes as I'm happy with it now. If upstream wants to merge my color changes they are welcome to it. Otherwise i will continue to build with these color changes when new versions of the firmware are released.

Thanks Klaus.

Both cables work with USB flash drives.

My Laptop has both USB A and USB C, neither works.
Both cables work with USB flash drives.

Maybe 0.29.2.1 and show the change log

That’s my personal preference – But hey – it works

That's how it always has been as far as i can tell. This is not a new version as it's exactly the same as v0.29.2. It does not have any new features or bug fixes. I didn't change anything "under the hood" other than adjusting some colors to my liking. It's just my personal build of v0.29.2 that i decided to share.
