Re: Best Random Wire Length for 75-10 Meters?
You ask a simple question, you get all sorts of answers that seldom have anything to do with that question. It is very refreshing to get one that does. Thanks!
I'm assuming, given the length of your wire that your operating 40 meters and up? 60 meters maybe, but I dont think the Xiegu will tune the low impedance that would be? KB0SFP |
Re: Best Random Wire Length for 75-10 Meters?
I agree with Wayd....it is a good site. Don't do as I did....did not properly read the text....jumped to the coloured charts and selected the lengths by colour. The coloured lengths are NOT the lengths to use.....the white ones are. Yes I know I am an idiot! A really good site for random wire info is :?
The shortest length including 80m is around 71' which is the one I use most often on activations ( we have a lot of nice tall trees and I try to get a nice high inverted L V?) and I have good luck with it. But shorter lengths will work in a pinch too -- that tuner will tune almost anything! My setup is: 9:1 balun with 17' of coax with sheild as CP to a 1:1 choke and into the radio. If operating position requires it I'll add some short coax feedline. |
Re: Best Random Wire Length for 75-10 Meters?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYes. I use suddenly a Random 16,2 m long with a 9:1 Unun. No counterpoise. Oh, yes! ¡ª> The RG174 (5 meters) still a RF choke, just near the X6100.?Saludos. Diego. EA1CN

Re: Best Random Wire Length for 75-10 Meters?
My X6100 tunes* 28 foot speaker wire, with 28 foot counterpoise, without issue (no balun, no unun), on all frequencies¡ªbut I have no idea about transmission efficiency.
* Well, the internal graph shows that the wire was tuned on all frequencies. ?Who knows if the transceiver was telling the truth. |
Re: Battery will not charge
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI use always a external bat. But LiFePo, and at 10 VDC. 5w fine! Always CW.?Saludos. Diego. EA1CN

Re: Battery will not charge
In this discussion of the X6100 battery, it was suggested to look on AliExpress for the batteries (there are 2).? I did get the batteries, but have not had issues with my X6100.? I normally use external 12V battery to get the full 10W output.? I have not tested the AliEx batteries so cannot comment further.

Tom, I got your message, and when the time comes to replace the battery, I will crack the case and get the part numbers off the battery and source it that way. It is not a special battery, just the one they chose for the radio. A 3ah battery will power the 6100 for quite a while on 5w, and a 5ah battery gives acceptable time at 10w. Honestly, I would just as soon use an external battery than the internal one.

Re: CAN you MAINTAIN a X6100 WiFi Connection?
Paul,
I've been able to maintain a connection to an AP with a strong signal indefinitely with Xiegu firmware.? If you're using DHCP, there is a periodic refresh of the 'lease' with time dependent on router (typically) settings. If the connection is dropping on a predictable schedule, I'd suspect the router is unhappy with it for some reason.? Try a static IP address if you're using DHCP and see if that makes any difference. 73, ? Dan ? N7SHM |

Re: Is WFView misidentifying my X6100?
I have had mine since 2022 august and it works fine, but with the known quirks.
I had a similar experience like the one you're describing a couple of days ago, when trying to connect the FT8CN (Android) app to my X6100 (App/Base 1.1.6) over WiFi. X6100 reported that in it was connected to the access point on my Android phone, but the access point on the Android phone did not report any connected device. Tried several times to configure the WiFi settings on the X6100, without any success. If I don't misremember, I have tried connecting to the X6100 earlier, but gave up trying as the WiFi implementation appeared to me as less then solid... But if you're in to digital, I can recommend the very nice and well featured Android app FT8CN connected to the X6100 over a USB cable. Both FT8CN and WFView works fine with IC-705 by the way. Stay safe! 73 de SA5QED David |
Re: CAN you MAINTAIN a X6100 WiFi Connection?
There is plenty of chatter about the wifi circuit sitting inside a metal case and not being reliable or having any connection distance. Probably not what you want to hear, but an ethernet connection is the way to go. This one works for me and it's all of $14:
