I have had mine since 2022 august and it works fine, but with the known quirks.
I had a similar experience like the one you're describing a couple of days ago, when trying to connect the FT8CN (Android) app to my X6100 (App/Base 1.1.6) over WiFi.
X6100 reported that in it was connected to the access point on my Android phone, but the access point on the Android phone did not report any connected device.
Tried several times to configure the WiFi settings on the X6100, without any success.
If I don't misremember, I have tried connecting to the X6100 earlier, but gave up trying as the WiFi implementation appeared to me as less then solid...
But if you're in to digital, I can recommend the very nice and well featured Android app FT8CN connected to the X6100 over a USB cable.
Both FT8CN and WFView works fine with IC-705 by the way.
